Still a ponced up grockle parlour. Beers were either St Austel or Exmoor, neither of which were notable. They even have a baby grand piano in the dining area; how poncy is that for a pub in a small Somerset village?

Would-be gastro pub situated incongruously on the western edge of the Quantocks. Seems to be some tie with St Austell as the only beers they have nowadays are Tribute and Proper Job, drinkable but kept too cold and nothing special. Food looked like standard pub fare with a gastro price tag. Service at the bar was slow even though they weren't especially busy. There's a Sawday sticker on one window declaring it to be a "special place to eat and drink"; I saw nothing special whatsoever. How about getting some Quantock Brewery ales and some proper cider? The Quantocks are crying out for a decent walkers' pub; a ponced up grockle parlour is the last thing we need.

As always good food friendly staff and the beer in good nick. A bit of atmoshere is lost by separating the bar from the dining area and it is not the warmest place in Winter.

A great pub, excellent food and both friendly and good service. Nine of my family enjoyed Sunday lunch to celebrate with my Aunt who was 80 today. As my aunt is disabled we sought help with seating arrangements and nothing was to much trouble. Many of my party chose and enjoyed the roast beef, although those that ate the liver, salmon and the vegetarian mushroom risotto were all equally impressed. The desserts were great as were the wine and beers. Good mix of mature staff and lovely young people with energy to serve quickly and very pleasant. All this enhanced by the attention to detail of the interior decor and the beauty of the location. We will return and recommend you visit.

Nice pub! This was suppose to be an anniversary meal but nothing went right! My husband ordered a sirloin steak medium rare and it came rare and was as though as boots - by the time it was replaced I had finished my meal. They still charged us for the steak which I thought was a bit of cheek! Unfortunately I got food poisoning (the sea bass, I think) and was pretty ill for 2 days afterwards. I don't think we would go there again. It would have been nice to have landlord and not just young staff.

A great place for a nice relaxing sunday lunch and a couple of beers. Nice surroundings and decor, beer is well looked after and the food and service more than acceptable.

Actually becoming a bit of a favourite of ours as we meander out to the Quantocks. Decent choice of ales, nice glass of wine and the food is jolly good too. Cosy little place and always quite busy, well done.

One of the better pubs available for those who like to wander around the hills before having a drink, or after having two. The food is worth a try too.

I made the same mistake as BobOs - now I take two or three pints from a good selection of local ales as refreshment after my walk on the Quantocks.
I have never eaten there but the food looks good too.

I made the mistake (not my first and it certainly won't be my last) of having a beer here at the start of my walk to West Quantoxhead and back. Well, actually, because the beer was so good the mistake was to have a second pint before tackling the almost vertical footpath at the side of the pub which climbs to the top of the hills. Still, it was nice to have another couple of pints on my return several hours later! Will certainly call back when I'm next walking in the area.

Mainly a dining pub, although drinkers are certainly welcomed too. Lots of little nooks and crannies for thoses eating, and bar stools and tables for those just having a drink. Well worth another visit.

This pub changed hands in April. The new landlord seems welcoming, and so do the locals. It is well worth walking down off the hill for. (it's only halfway down)
|
The opening times shown on the sign outside are totally fictitious, which is a real sod if you've just walked down from the hills for a pint and find the place closed.

Friendly staff, good food and good beer. It is a shame this place suffered a fire. The rebuild is well done, but it will take ages to look worn enough to think you're in country pub. There's no car park by the pub, nor in the rest of the vilage as near as I could tell. This is a great pub to visit on foot if you are prowling about the Quantocks.

Come on YoYo where's your review? After being totally gutted by a fire it's nice to see the revival of this country pub. Despite the new refurbishment efforts have been made to make the interior look old - flagstone floor, exposed beams, and old furniture. No beer garden but the well kept range of ale which can be enjoyed out the front of the pub on the benches! Food was superb, recommend the Lamb.
