Rose and Crown, Nether Stoweyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Went there yesterday (Saturday) to find it closed. Apparently it was short notice and no one could tell me why other than it is advertising for a new operator to run it.

It is amazing how so many villages will have a number of pubs within spitting distance of each other. The Rose and Crown is next door to the George, and around the corner (near enough) from the Ancient Mariner. In all fairness, I visited neither of its neighbours, but then, I found the Rose and Crown charming.
I was visiting friends in the village, and this is their pub of choice. We were warmly welcomed (literally - they have a real fire), and offered tasters of the beer (and real cider too). The beer was well kept (I can't quite remember what I drank, but it was a stronger ale (around 5%, if I recall correctly).
The pub offers food, which I didn't try, but am informed it's good pub food. Charles, the landlord, was charming and friendly, and gave me a mini tour - they have a full sized skittle alley. I would imagine it's a bit of a challenge, as you are actually throwing the balls up hill. I wouldn't be good at it.
The pub is also a B&B, though I did not see the rooms. The garden is lovely - much bigger than you'd expect it to be. The bar itself is tiny, and more than one server would struggle to operate behind there. I could see this being a problem on busy days; however, both days we went in it was very quiet - at one point, the only other customer being the very affectionate pub cat. This is a shame, as the pub deserves to thrive.
I would gladly recommend the Rose and Crown, and hope to visit again next time I find myself in Somerset (said, of course, with a stereotypical Somerset accent).
Recommended.

This place is clearly in need of some up-to-date ratings. I too can't believe how low an average score it has. I've now been there a few times in recent months, and OK it's not a luxury way to spend an evening but it's a PUB for crying out loud. The beer is good, James is a nice guy and the layout is quirky enough to keep you interested and infuriated in equal quantities - the front bar can really only accomodate one server, which can be a problem when it's busy. Went to a really good folk night there last week following Morris dancing outside (I've been a bit worried about Morris just lately!). Great atmosphere. There seems to some kind of feud with The George next door which is a shame.

Went to this pub whilst on holiday in the area cannot believe its only rated 4.1 very good meals and choice of three real ales. also friendly locals and pretty beer garden.

"Even better now the beer is Casque Marque approved", what genuine pubgoer would say that? If you're going to faslify reviews, at least do so with a degree of credibility. These fake reviews from managers/owners are so painfully obvious!

I've been a regular visitor to this pub for several years and its always been great. Even better now that the beer is Cask Marque approved, and Barb has taken over the kitchen. The food is always excellent, and good value - but you may have to wait for a while if they are busy. They have a nice cosy bar, which is where I prefer to eat, rather than the restaurant, and the garden is nice in summer. Well worth a visit.

Ok sort of pub. I went here whilst staying mearby with work one evening. The pub is attractive and thats about the best bit. We were going to eat but we didn't fancy the look of the food and somone else eating told us it wasn't great! Some of the customers were not our sort of people although okish in small quantities. The landlord almost appeared rude and seemed to be constantly moaning and was very standoffish and the landlady was in a right state about somthing - all in all not the best atmosphere - not somewhere I would choose to go again which is a shame as Iam going to be frequently in the area with my work.

What a fantastic pub. A lovely fire and eating area, complete with photos on the wall of the "old boys" from the local area. What a shame the landlord and family have ruined it. The young barmaid was devoid of any warmth and appeared to sigh at any simple request from fellow diners/drinkers. She may have just been tired.
After my short evening at the Rose and Crown I truly feel that the pub has potential as a lovely, cosy drinking/eating establishment. The setting, surroundings and certainly the atmosphere are deserving of a management team worthy of the building.
The meal, although a little cold, was passable, and the waiting staff were pleasant enough.
I had heard from friends who stayed here a few years ago, that this place was a must in Nether Stowey - lots of interesting people, great atmosphere etc. What has happened? I recommend The George next door where we spent the rest of the evening in good company.

Popped in last Sunday afternoon. Bar was thronged by local lads all getting over the night before. Beer was so-so. Juke box was too loud for a Sunday afternoon. Left the impression of a none-too-friendly lads pub; all the sensible people seemed to be in the George next door (which is where we retreated to after just one pint).

Open fire, porter on pumps, nice way to spend a winter afternoon.

Ancient coaching Inn in the centre of an attactive off the beaten track village. Offers BB in basic accommodation. Very friendly locals pub with exceptionally good value food. Range of real ale is excellent - local Otter ale plus others from Cottage and Clifton breweries. Well worth a visit.
