Great friendly atmosphere. Good drinking bar, loved it here! Only do drink and accommodation and do it well - dont change a great place - thats what i say!
Bar staff and Manager great - friendly and welcoming. Customers - although a little drunk - very friendly and a wanting to chat unlike next door where it was moan or glare!
Seemed to be a breakdown of relationship with Rose & Crown next door - unsurprising! They are so miserable! But suggested we ate at Ancient Mariner a little walk up the road (2mins)
Will deffinately return here when working in area for drinks and chats with the locals - might even try staying next time!

The Rose and Crown, Nether Stowey
Ok sort of pub. I went here whilst staying mearby with work one evening. The pub is attractive and thats about the best bit. We were going to eat but we didn't fancy the look of the food and somone else eating told us it wasn't great! Some of the customers were not our sort of people although okish in small quantities. The landlord almost appeared rude and seemed to be constantly moaning and was very standoffish and the landlady was in a right state about somthing - all in all not the best atmosphere - not somewhere I would choose to go again which is a shame as Iam going to be frequently in the area with my work.

The Ancient Mariner, Nether Stowey
Great - Friendly, warm atmosphere. Reccommended by the George to eat here - Fantastic! Fresh, obviously made to order, great presentation.
Spoke to the Landlady (didn't get her name), she is the chef and obviously loves her job. She is passionate about fresh ingredients and doesn't advocate the use of any pre-made sauces, meals or anything else but at the same time maintains that good traditional pub cooking with her personal twist is what people want.
Ian, the landlord, wasn't working that evening but still managed to spend time chatting with us and served out our meal. (He obviouslly knows how to keep a cellar too!)
the pub has a lovely bar and great restaurant. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The locals were really friendly if not like at the other pubs in the village, a little drunk! (seems to be the theme!) But I enjoyed chatting to them all.
All I can say is it is a good job i don't live in Nether Stowey or I would be seriously overweight because I would eat lunch & dinner at The Ancient Mariner every day if I could.
