Live in Kidbrooke now and have tried most of the local pubs. The Dacre Arms is by far my favourite.A 20 minute walk away but well worth it,a very pleasant pub especially now The Reverend James is on tap.

Terry the landlord died recently but his daughter Lorraine seems to be keeping up the standards and running it as a top class hidden gem of a pub. My only complaint is the knicky-knacky-noo lamp erected in the middle of the garden and other unnecessary knick knacks she seems to have wasted money on.

My first visit here even though I have lived within 4 miles of this pub for the last 8 years.
Was forced to visit because of it's entry in the good beer guide and my need to complete the South East London section of the guide.
Came in on a Saturday afternoon and with the weather being pleasant there were a few people in the beer garden & a couple including me and the barman inside.
A nice cosy feeling pub with plenty of nick-nacks and comfy looking chairs on hand. Single bar pub but it does have character.
A real old fashioned pub and this is a good thing as it has very good charms.
I may or may not come back but whoever reads this and hasn't been make a decision and go there you will not be disappointed.

The best kept secret in the area (although maybe not now). Can't fault it... barstaff are so friendly, beer is excellent and the garden is the best. A very local man's (and womans) pub and hope it stays that way. Don't stroke the dog because he is old and grumpy and may nip.

Previous comments are justly complimentary. Fabulous 'old man' pub. Very safe 7/10
|
A proper pub ie feels like someone's front room and doesn't serve food (although pork scratchings are on the menu). Enjoyed a couple of pre-match pints of Doombar, which was well kept. Echo the previous comments about friendly staff and punters. Well worth the detor off the main road.

Just moved into the area and this is my new local. Went there for the first time tonight and was pleased to find it as hospitable as previous entries here had suggested. Lovely little pub. Drank Sharp's Doom Bar and Black Sheep until they kicked us out. Really nice atmosphere. Will be making this a regular stop.

Cosy old-fashioned boozer in a quiet area, which doesn't seem to see much passing trade. There are plenty of pictures on the walls and also some decorative plates. A collection of baseball caps can be found behind the bar, whilst there were hops above the bar. There is obviously an Arsenal connection somewhere too, as there are a couple of items on display. A picture of the pub dog can be seen below the TV next to the gents. The TV is fairly discrete and was showing World Cup football on my Sunday afternoon visit. Three real ales were on - Courage Best, Hogsback TEA and Greene King IPA, whilst Old Speckled Hen and Bombardier were being pulled through. Disappointingly for me, the pub does not serve any real cider, contrary to the 2010 GBG entry. Service was warm and friendly.

Situated in a quiet smartish residential side street, the Dacre Arms is a cosy, small and comfortable traditional pub that exudes a rather old fashioned and upmarket ambience. It's a carpeted and wood panelled interior, well decorated with plates and jugs and, notably, hops above the bar. Leaded, frosted windows and the absence of any TV's, fruit machines etc help create a fine environment for a quiet pint or two.
On the real ale front, as you enter, there's a bank of 4 pumps in front of who, which, on my recent visit, were dispensing Hogs Back TEA, Black Sheep, Bombardier and Greene King IPA - a range that could be considered as rather unexciting by today's standards, although I gather that Harveys and TT Landlord are often on. A further 2 pumps situated further round the bar were dispensing Courage Best, which presumably reflects the fact that the pub still has some customers from its former days as a Courage pub.
On my visit, notably, and slightly irritatingly, my Hogs Back TEA was served in a Courage branded glass. A subsequent pint of Courage Best then came in a John Smiths glass. To put the icing on the cake, a ladies glass was then used to serve me a half of Black Sheep ! The Hogs Back TEA - 3.10P - was in fine form, as were the other beers listed. The pub is listed in the 2010 GBG.
It's a bit out of the way, but it's worth seeking out and I'd happily come here again - irrespective of which glass they use to serve me

Proper Pub, nice choice of beer, friendly staff and locals.
|
Quality boozer. Excellent pint of Sussex bitter and a few other of tap which I didn't try. Can't ask for a better pub in my opinion, friendly bar staff, decent punters. All, all good.
|
After the nightmare of Lee High Road (what a shite hole) I was glad to find this charming old fashioned pub, pity a pint of Spitfire cost 3.
|
D'oh. That noise you hear is my head banging against the wall in frustration. For 2 1/2 years I lived in walking distance but for some bizarre reason never made it to the Dacre. After having our ears assaulted to the point of bleeding at the Duke of Edinburgh's St. Paddy's karaoke we wandered up to the Dacre. It was like stepping out of a tardis and into a pub that time forgot. Quiet, clean, pleasant, everything a local should be. The Harvey's was in perfect shape. The locals were friendly and relaxed. No chavs, no hard plastic gangstas, just down to earth people enjoying each others company.
|
A gem... this place feels like stepping back in time and out of London to a small Derbyshire inn circa 1965. A real pub: no juke, pool table nor fruitie. A place to kick back and enjoy bonhomie with friends who like to chat and drink real ale, Guinness or spirits (though I can't vouch for their wines, the lager leaves a little to be desired) though with good quality ales on, why would you drink anything else?
When pubs talk of refurb, this is where I'd want to bring landlords to show them the potential of a possible defurb - a classic.
|
This pub is the nearest decent one if living in Lee. Friendly bar staff and a good range of well kept ales whenever I have visited. The atmosphere is pretty convivial and the seating encourages a certain coziness. Have been away from the area for about 9 years and pleasently surprised to find the pub as good as when I left it!

Sandwiched between upmarket Blackheath Village and more down at heel Lee, the Dacre is a fairly small but cosy, welcoming and rather tranquil oasis in a fairly comfortable residential area. A good assortment of Ales is generally available although on my recent visit only the Courage Best and Green King IPA were left on leaving the Deuchers, Landlord and Harveys forlornly indisposed. From the out of action lager pumps I can assume they had a pretty busy session that took them by surprise. The interior is quite old fashioned but eminates a sedate and cosy atmosphere with little chance of experiencing anything by way of scandoulous or raucous behaviour (unless you owned the Blue Volvo that blocked in the barmaids car). There is a mass of hops draped around the bar frame and a variety of vases, urns, jugs, pictures, photos and all kinds of nick nacks that are balanced precariously on the shelves, mantelpieces, screen tops and anywhere else where space is to be found. Not a place for waltzing your partner whilst wearing a large rucksack. Dont apply for any jobs as the duster either. Entertainment (apart from the playful scraggy old dog) comes from a basic TV perched in one corner and a healthy selection of books. This is as far away from Old Skool DJs, pool tables and Karaoke evenings as you could wish and all the better for it. The Dacre is certainly not a place you would come across by accident but well worth the effort to find if you are in the area and need a relaxing place to while away a few hours.
|
Nice little locals' pub quite small inside and filled with various bits of pub tat. Six handpumps, which last night had Harveys Sussex Best, Courage Best, and Greene King IPA. The Harveys ran out during our visit though. I'd have rated it higher if the beer had been more exciting.
|
went with my friends for a drink last week and had a loverly time, nice atmostfear, good food, cosey, and look out for sahra waghorn, real nice girl xx,i added a extra point for this friend,a must everning
|
First used The Dacre in early the seventies. And have used it whenever possible ever since. Fantastic beer, & friendly locals make this the perfect choice for a convivial evening out.
|
Lovely local pub, plenty of choice of beers. If you're looking for a quiet drink you'll struggle to find a better venue. Crazy dog too. The only minus points for me would be the lack of food and the lighting is sometimes just a bit too bright (I like my pubs dingy!). But saying that, easily one of the best pubs in SE London.
|
Cosy & friendly single-roomed neighbourhood pub with 6 handpumps serving mostly mainstream beers Pride, Bombardier, Deuchers, Bass, Courage. Quiet Sat afternoon but we were advised that some would be returning from the Valley after the match a nice fact that locals here support the local team. We were well received and both the barman and the handful of punters at the bar were happy to chat. Comfortable upholstered seating in sections around the walls & a slightly mad but star-quality West Highland terrier keeping an eye on proceedings. Hardly worthy of its brief spell at the top of the tree, but a very pleasant place for a few beers nevertheless.
|
In total agreement with all the previous posters. Come into its own since the smoking ban. I even take my mum here when she's in town. Late last year met some tourists in there from Germany -- they said it was the quaintest pub in Ingland. Not sure about that but a good range of ale, crisps and other snackettes [scratchings, scampi fries]. Pricey though, taking a point off for that.
|
Fantastic pub in the middle of a side street, off a another side street, off a thoroughfare in the middle of nowhere Lewisham. Feels more like a country village pub than a South London boozer. Up to 4 ales available.
Sure - when I go I'm the youngest person in the pub by, oh, 70 years or so, but I'm turning 30 this year and am starting to appreciate places that still make me feel young. Plus I think I'm a grumpy old man well before my time, so enjoy the like minded company.
Anyway, while it's a lovely pub, it's one dependent on support from the local community in order to survive, as it won't get any passing trade. If you live in Lewisham/Lee/Blackheath, you should try to stop in here when possible. To paraphrase that jobless-hippie waster Joni Mitchell, you won't know what you've got til'it's gone.
|
Great pub! Been going here for years and never fails to impress. Great beer, great staff. Its an oasis. Nothing better than a couple of pints in here on a cold winters night.
|
The best pub in the known universe, and Lewisham for that matter. Seems to be run by extended family and friends, and Laurraine makes all her punters feel like part of that family. Nice range of beers, lovely garden, and psychotic westie all add to a lovely experience.

A cosy little pub and v different to most in the area. Quieter than in Blackheath and more middle class, though not exclusively, than Lee. Beer is v good and it's great if you fancy a quiet natter of an evening.
|
Nice pub, but the beer quality was a little iffy during my visit.

If Carlsberg made pubs, this is what they'd look like. Probably the best pub in the world.
|
Gets better with every visit. Go there and cause an incident by nicking John the Architect's seat.
|
Classy little pub, very popular with the middle class brigade. A good place to avoid the chavs who have invaded the heath.
|
Lovely proper local pub. No music, rarely television, just good beer, chat and a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Great place to while away a couple of lazy hours.
|
Simply wonderful. I've lived in Blackheath for 10 years and yet only found this gem a couple of months ago. It does everything right, and long may it continue.
|
I found this place by accident when looking for a new flat in Blackheath. "Looks like a nice little boozer" I thought as I drove past.
I wasn't wrong. For the first time in my life I'm a regular in a pub.
The Dacre is best summed up as a village pub without a village. Friendly regulars, all ages and backgrounds, all getting on together and creating a really great atmosphere.
Hats off to Terry, John and the rest of the staff for making this the best little juicer in south-east London.
Check out the informal "library" set up by the locals along the wall in one of the booths!

Fantastic Pub. Great Beer, First class service from John the barman. Terry the landlord is a top bloke.
|
Looks hideous from the outside but don't let that put you off. Seriously. Well worth going inside, very friendly, good beer, comfortable local. Real village sort of feel to it.
|
quiet pub very expensive very smokey at times few stares when u walk in very locals pub best little pub in blackheath and the Guvnor knows it, thats why its pricey. recent licence extension turned down as this little pub is band in the middle of a residential area. so its 11pm chaps get their early if u want a seat terry, John and all the crew still their, look out for the posh glass collector Quentin cant miss him check suits etc. Give it a bash
|
Used to like this pub a lot, but it has become unbearably expensive. Pint of fosters lager, pint of bombardier bitter, vodka and orange, 9.20. Or maybe they don't like me?

great pub. Recently moved nearby and very happy that this is my local. Proper local feel and extremely friendly and welcoming.

The best pub within miles. I couldn't recommend more highly. Well kept real ale, friendly, clean, traditional. Better than anything in Blackheath.
|
Quite simply, it is the best 'local' I have ever been to.
No food, admittedly, or Sky TV, but you don't seem to miss either.
It is a gem, hidden in the backstreets behind Blackheath and it's hideous set of pubs.
A must.
|
This was my family local for years, and was always the nicest pub in the area. I recently visited after an absence of many years and was shocked to see the same barman working away.
A great, friendly local pub. I don't know if they had music on as you never would have heard it over the buzz of friendly conversation. One tip from years back which still applies. Don't get there late in the evening if you're aiming to rest your buttocks.
|
I've had the pleasure of drinking in this fantastic "local" for nearly 20 years and I can honestly say it's the best pub in the Blackheath / Lee area, by far. Terry the landlord is all a landlord should be and John the Barman never forgets a drink. Great place to go if you fancy a great pint and a good chat with a chum in a warm and friendly atmosphere . Oh and the beer garden is am amazing sun-trap in the summer.

Byfar the nicest, friendliest, most localish type pub in the whole Blackheath/Lee area (with the possible exception of the Hare & Billet). Really nice and totally non threatening atmosphere (and cheap as well - round of a stella and wine comes to a fiver). Difficult to find, but well worth it.

Nice and friendly. Still has pint jugs. The only thing lacking is a lock-in! Over to you Landlord?
Tim - 5 Sep 2003 16:22 |
Very traditional looking inside, nice big garden at the rear with plenty of tables. Staff are friendly and courteous. It's not going to make for a wild night out but if you want to have a drink with your mates and talk to them without losing your voice then this place is well worth a look.

Hard to find, but well worth it. As stated below by Cameron "Your original friendly local pub". Had a few nice ones in the garden last night. Will be back soon.
Lunchtime O'Booze - 21 Aug 2003 10:08 |
Often wander past this pub on way to one of the characterless cattlemarkets in Blackheath. Looks quite nice from the outside. May pop in if I get caught short on way home one night.

Your original friendly local pub. Alas, not many of these left these days.
