Had an excellent pint of Pickled Partridge here at lunchtime, but the scampi, chips and peas had peas that must have come from a tin - the barmaid said that they had to use what they were supplied with. The experience was otherwise OK, there were a number of noisy young children in the pub which didn't spoil the experience as they were somewhat lost elsewhere in the size of the pub. Not much opportunity to stand at the bar, no stools, you'd have to sit at a table here

Visited here for dinner this evening after a day out at Peppa Pig World! It's probably the nearest real ale pub you'll find to this theme park. A large Hall & Woodhouse pub that is certainly popular with diners and families, it had 3 of their ales - Badger First Call, Brewer's Bee & Tangle Foot. The food was ok. Although it's the standard Hall & Woodhouse menu. Service was fine. Many tables were reserved. Doubt I'd come here again. But its certainly handy if your little one(s) is/are into pigs!

Went here with another couple and we felt this pub has atmosphere even with its high ceiling (in places) and ample room between tables. The Badger ale was fine, service was both pleasant and efficient and the food was good too. Surprised there weren't more people there, but that's how it goes sometimes.

Has a cosy feel despite its size and was very clean. We arrived for a meeting with several others just before it got really busy, but the staff were polite and efficient. The Tanglefoot tasted very good and overall the food was great, possibly a bit pricey but it was presented well and the options are a bit better than your average pub chain. (Haddock Benedict with Salsa, Mustard Mash which was great and Chicken and Ham Pie with veg.) The missus says you could taste the vegetables and they weren't overcooked. Will call again someday.

What is the significance of the Wodehouse-inspired name of this pub? Anyone know how long it has been thus-called?

This pub is a wonderful find, you are pleasantly greeted on arrival and wished well on departure.
Being a vegetarian, the choices are great but if there is nothing on the menu that appeals, the chef will discuss alternatives and accommodate.
All the staff are helpful and cheerful and we have never had a bad experience whilst visiting.

Paid 25 pounds for a 3 course meal that included being told to hurry up 6 times by serving staff as the kitchen closes in 30 minutes, each course served immediately after each other including desert with coffees. The turkey in the meal was very tasteless and perfectly round so obviously partially manufactured.
Poor service - low quality food - very disappointed !!!

This pub continues to serve good food and beer by a friendly staff - thanks to Claire Rod Jan and Jesse and all the others. Can get real busy on a fri /sat night esp if they have a lot of parties or reservations .

Options are a bit 'chainey' and the quality (and temperature) of the food deteriorated during early 2006 but they now seem to have sorted out the gremlins and we've had some really pleasant meals there since late 2006. We usually go on a Friday evening and it's strange how on some Fridays the place is fairly heaving and on other Fridays it's remarkably quiet. The staff are always pleasant, efficient and friendly. The conveniences are always spotless and nicely appointed.
