Doesnt appear to be much action in the redevelopment here, boarded up for months with a sign saying a new Be At One Bar but thats been up for months. Not the best location for it in my mind.

Due to reopen as a Be At One bar.

This place is a bit like Marxism then; totally dead.

Not many people know this but this pub is where Marx and Engels and others used to meet, where the first meetings of the Communist Party were held and where the Communist Manifesto was initially drafted and approved. This is a historic building in the hostory of Politics and it should have a Blue Plaque on it. I hope the people that live there when its converted know the relevance of this place.

Such a shame it's gone, the Hard Edge Club used to take place here upstairs. One of London's classic little venues, this was.

Pub closed 11.9.2006. Same day as the Intrepid Fox. Same purpose, conversion to flats :(

I went there last week and it was quite a quiant little place.
Not a bad pint of ale, although the stock Pride, Greene King IPA and Adnams is not the most inspiring of choices.

Agree with the comments below. Used to drink in here a few times a month (in the good old days). Last time I was in (Nov 05) it was still a decent pint, pub was clean, and staff knew their way 'around the bar'.
Fell in love with the Lovely Blonde outside the Strip Club overe the road - which was nice !!!

Walking into the Red Lion is like walking into your living room the first time after the Christmas decorations have been taken down. Everything seems bare and spacious bare floorboards, bare walls, bare ceilingyou get the picture. It would also be advisable to wears shades as everything seems overpoweringly bright. There is a plasma screen and a few games machines and beer is well priced for the area. Adnams and London Pride on handpump. Attentative staff (wiped table and changed ashtray the moment I sat down). Straight forward pub with no airs or graces but could benefit from toning down the lighting / dcor and sticking a few things on the walls to break the monotony. OK for a quick pint but there are far more interesting pubs within shouting distance.

A decent little place with good prices for a central London pub. They have free comedy every night in the upstairs room. In fact I came after getting a flyer for a club they have every thursday, which was pretty damn good -especially for the price! Even came back a few days later, though disappointed as the comedy on a wednesday is run by a different group and wasn't quite as good. Still not awful though - and all in all a good place to go for a cheap night out.

nice pub, specially in week nights, quiet to watch footie or just have a nice chat no hassle

The beers cheap for this area especially when they have Bar 1.50 days (check poster in window). There's also the added entertainment of being able to see the girls on the doors at Pampers and The Pink Pussy Cat Club.

This has to be one of the best boozers in London. It has the Golden Tee Golf Game, the music isn't too loud, not too hard to get a seat and during the summer everyone just goes out onto Archer Street as well. Very good pub.
