The Owl in Kingsfold is a very friendly pub, with fantastic food. The head chef Christian makes the best banoffee pie I have ever tasted and all at a reasonable prices.
The landlord and lady are very welcoming. There is a good atmosphere in there with a separated restaurant from the bar area, which often has live music. This pub caters well for the locals, with village family days, as well as passing the trade, with good beers and wines, defiantly worth a visit.

I don't understand this last comment, we eat here from time to time and recommend it to people who come to us for food when we have none on offer. We have always enjoyed our meal. A lot of pubs use that well known brand of catering food supplies for cooking ingredients and just because you see a 3663 lorry outside it would be wrong to assume it is delivering ping dinners. I would suggest you try it for yourselves.
it is indeed a transformation, but the food has not improved. they are still in this cycle of using that well known brand of catering food supplies...we all know and hate.
What an amazing transformation! The Owl has become a warm & friendly country pub. Fantastic food and well worth a trip out to Kingsfold Looking forward to some more real ales though... Well done Nigel & Jean.

Well I finally got round to giving this pub a go after seeing the refurb going on, and Im very pleased I did. The new owners are very pleasant. We initially dropped in for a pint to suss out if the beer was any good, and they had Otter and Hogs Back on, both of which were in good condition and the Otter was only 2.85! After looking over the menu, we decided to eat there. The food was very good and very reasonably priced, so I would highly recommend trying this pub now its under new management.

the owl closed this monday, 15th nov and will re open 29th nov @6pm. the whole concept of the pub is changing dramatically. gone is the shop, deli. sports bar. in with good home cooked food, the menu will be on the website closer to opening. real ales. friendly team and management.

closed down!

Im with you on that one fullybelly, does look a bit odd!
I have not yet been to the Wise Old Owl, although I drive passed it every day and have lived nearby for the last 3 years. I must say it looks lovely from the outside but after reading these reviews I dare say I will not see the inside of it. Think I will give this one a miss.
Strange how the two last reviews are so different? Could it be that Emma works for Dave? Im always pleased to see new members join this site but am a little suspicious regarding Emma whose one and only review is so gushing...maybe im looking too deep?

A lot good work gone into this pub this year. Those of you who have had many good time at the Owl over the years should visit it once more. You could be in for a surprise.
Staff were friendly and up for some banter, especially the bar man who gave us the sugar, ha!
Food was value through and through, inexpensive and very nice.
This pub looked great when we got in it and there was a 25% deal off all food and drink before 630 pm. The Ribs however tasted like they had been cooked a couple of weeks ago and then heated up. Very tough and chewy and let the whole experience down. I dont think it was a coincidence that we were the only ones eating here. This pub looks like it could be a lot better if they changed the chef.
Dave Allen the new owner then?
lovely place to eat and drink have been sevral times. The staff are a great bunch of people and really make the visit. The food has always ben very very good, the bar area is small so its more a restaurant than a traditional pub but really well worth a visit. I have lived in Kingsfold for 2 years now and the manager has to be the best it has seen in years.
Good food and good atmosphere, one for families I think. Ignore the old reviews. Sometimes people just expect too much. Stand up and take a bow. This place should be the benchmark for all good boozers.

We had lunch there today. Although the menu looked promising and the pub looked nice, the food was very, very average and service was slow. The waiting staff were pleasant but, with one exception, they were not really on the ball. The final straw was that the bread was so stale that it actually had blue mould on it. Maybe we just caught them on an off day but somehow I dont think well bother going back to find out.
this is an average chain type establishment. nothing to write home about, but you couldn't get too disappointed at the food and drink. nicely decorated and clean.
I've been a regular at this pub for a number of years and have either dropped in for a pint (and a good pint might I add), or used it on the nights I can't be bothered to cook and found the food to be extremly good value. Given the times I've been there, I just can't see the previous poor comments fitting the pub that I know. I guess 'opinion' is what makes this website what it is, but opinion must also be accurate and about the right pub...keep up the good work
or maybe I had the Owl at the dog and duck down the road instead of the duck at the wise old owl...and am getting confused ...
have you taken the duck off the menu then Matt?.......I thought it flew out...
Well Matt.....I had duck too. Ain't that strange ....you run a very average pub ....beer/food wise. But don't lie.

Dear jkbayley, my name is Matt May and I am the General Manger of The Wise Old Owl Kingsfold. I am very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with us. However I would like to point out that if a complaint was made at the time of dinning it would have been dealt with accordingly. All feedback is taken as positive being good or bad. Without feedback from customers like yourself it is very hard to see, drive the business in the right direction. However I would also like to point out we have no and do not sell duck. Are you sure you have the correct establishment? I would also like to point out that as a small country pub we take great care and attention with are bitters. At each firkin change the lines are cleaned to create that crisp clean pint. I invite you to contact me on this matter at the Owl and I hope we can rectifier the situation.

I took my family here after we had had a really good lunch and beer experience here a few years ago. Not so this month; I was very embarrassed to have recommended this place to anyone. My duck was as dry as you could imagine having been really overcooked. My father-in-law's bangers were neatly placed so that only when you turned them over did you realise that they were burnt to a cinder. My beer was disgusting (I forget which, but it will have been a draught bitter) and shouted out poor pipe maintenance. Regrettably my family would not let me complain. At best this place is variable, at worst awful. No lies here.
We have been for a meal on a couple of occasions and found the staff to be very courteous and polite and the food to be of a very high standard with quick service. The previous review is a load of lies
Food was poor for the stupidly high prices. Small portions and you also have to pay for extras which at usual pubs you'd get included (vegetables!!!) My meal was also accompanied by the manager shouting loudly and abusively, out the back, at a memeber of the obviously over worked staff. For all the hype made by the managers about the fantastic enviroment and food, and the fact my bank balance took a serious hit for nothing special, i would not recommend or return!
One of the best Sunday roasts I've had. The staff were really friendly and prices were very reasonable. The shop is great. What a find.
WJ King Horsham Best & Winters TAle (halfpt 1.55). Stone, flag, & wood flooring, some old beams, hop decorated. Deli & farm shop in room to right of bar, quite large dining area opp end and seemingly aiming for that market. Interim open lounge had sofas, and more bar space was given to the coffee machine than the beer pumps, hmmm.
In here on Saturday for a bit of a celebration to find that a power cut meant no draught beers. How come the handpumps needed power?
Otherwise friendly staff and plenty of room to stretch out, and good views to the Surrey Hills one side and the Sussex Weald the other way.
Is it possible that each course being served by a different waitress was part of an elaborate theme? Was each one dressed to reflect a different period of the pub's history? Or perhaps as a different local food?
We stopped off here for lunch. Service was good (although we were served each course by a different waitress), food was nice but overpriced and not enough of it. At 8.50 for 3 sausages and a small dollop of mash, i found it a bit steep and if you want veg with it, that'll set you back another 2.50! I agree with the concept of using locally produced food but to charge so much for the meals is a bit much. I can't knock the quality of the food at all, all very nice, but the prices are a bit steep.
We ate here a few weeks ago, and found all the waitresses to be extremely helpful and friendly. no sign of a rude waiter - apparently he was the barman who didn't like waiting at table! Conveniently half way between south London and the coast for meeting friends! Recommended.
This was the first time that my family and I had visited this quiet country pub/restaurant and the beautiful exterior and location was not let down by our experience inside. We recieved a warm and friendly welcome and quickly escorted to a table in the restaurant. After being seated at a lovely table in the window our order was taken quickly by a helpful waitress who had a good knowledge of the menu. After a short wait for our meals, our enjoyment was furthered more by the delectibilty of the food. I had the venison steak which I was astonished to find was sourced from only down the road! My daughter had the butternut squash which was a perfectly interesting dish for a vegetarian. Upon our exit we delighted in visiting the adjoining deli farmshop which, again supported local and organic produce. I would definately recommend the wise old owl and will definately be revisiting.
Ok food and nice inside. The thing that lets it down is the dreadful service, it can be terribly slow - which would be bearable - but when accompanied by a surly, rude and brusque young waiter/bar staff member - it becomes unacceptable I'm afriad. Have been in twice - and encountered this lad both times - complained second time to 'supervisor' - would certainly not recommend and will avoid myself in future - far better service from neighbouring pubs.
Great place for a date. Smarter than your average pub. Haven't eaten here yet but will do soon.

Stopped here on our way from Hastings to Birmingham. Excellent food with a bit of a difference. I liked the deli shop attached to the pub. Didn't sample the alcohol as we were driving, but the decor and food were lovely.
Trendy yet characterful foodie pub with friendly service. Had Taylor Landlord and Hogsback T.E.A. when I visted; T.E.A. was in excellent condition, so I stuck to it. Short pints were topped up without having to ask.
A very well decorated and very large pub mainly set out for eating so lacks atmosphere. Part of a small chain (3 pubs). Usually two Real Ales which change from time to time as the pub is independant of any brewery. Well run by an enthusiastic manager. Food is good.
