This place seems to have closed down. Basically it was just a doss house anyway

I was a bit stunned though to see the same old geezers in their designated seats sipping one coffee for a few hours. Poor service inside, but still good for sitting outside watching all the buskers and assorted characters.

A decent pub with hard-working staff. I find this pub has a much better vibe than it had a few years ago - you can count on having a good night without any worries or trouble.

Extremely hostile and nasty staff, very expensive drinks, nothing more than a shadow of what it used to be. DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB. It is an underage drinking den that offers nothing new. Police have frequented often regards to underage drinking issues. To be avoided.

Good for if you're passing trade, we sat outside with a drink and bar snack. Very pleasurable.

hoonkerama - 29 Dec 2010 13:00
OMG What a "SURREAL" place but definately not in a bad way!

The Crown has just had a refurb a new paint job, thank goodness! and bit of a tidy up all round, they now have DJ's every Friday night. I do agree with previous comments about the crowd sitting around by the entrance, they actually are really nice people and the staff work hard to maintain a safe happy atmosphere & keep out the 'trouble' crowd. The accommodation is very good for budget rooms, especially the private rooms good value for money I think. Great pub, great staff and free WiFi now too!

How very odd! Why would anyone post using my alias? This is not the first time, so I should not be surprised.
FACT: I do not know the alleged "Butcombe girl, nor do I venture out of my hovel on Carnival night. Those who know me will attest to the fact that I do not refer to myself as "i". Get a life of your own, pseudoArbiter, and post under your own name! (Or not at all)

Bratpackers! What a fitting name as the age of the bar staff and attitude is nothing far short of brats at a kindergarden. The wonderful knowledgeless Butcombe girl never fails to impress. A few nights gone i saw here piggy backing around the pub. I was walking by on Carnival night, very late, in the morning and glanced across to spot the most vile act of her drunk drug fueled boyfriend standing over her in the doorway as she was cowering on the floor while he was hurling sic abuse at her. Why did i not act? Others were there. I spotted blood on the doors the next day. I was worried for her though. I'm too old and a coward to get involved. But on tuesday i strolled by and looked in to see she was obviously ok as the staff were juggling in front of the bar. What an adult estblishment.

I dont see what everyoneson about
yes some of the customers may be a bit ruff round the edges but there a lovly bunch of people if u actully talk to them.
and as the for the place bein dirty its n e thing but yes the toilets maybe after a busy weekend night but the bar is imaculate.
as for the rooms up stairs the lady i talked had nothing but praises to say about her room
the staff are in fact lovely and polite
and the door staff are fatsitc at keeping out "the local losers" as it was so well peviously put.
all in all i love this pub and will be vistingitevery time im in the area.

As a visitor to Glastonbury, the Crown initially seems quite an uninviting place if you walk past.
Summer sees the addition of outside tables occupied by local losers, which does not help the rather shady vibe to the place.
It's odd, because the Crown is so close to the George pub that locals tend to walk drinks back and forth between the two.
Added to this is the fact that both verge upon the market square, where many people sit to eat takeaway food or just chill out.
No,not in a rush to go in there again. Not exactly terrible, but it does seem to be a shit-filter for the local drinking population.
As for staying there to sleep?.......I'd sooner take my chances with an advert placed in one of the local shops.
Not bothered.

Absolute dump. Used to be better before the refurb... and I mean the refurb that first turned it into a chav-tastic Sky pub. The long bar was much nicer. Now the bar is so small, you have to queue five deep to get served. Awful, awful place.
the_gremlin - 4 Oct 2009 10:43
Yes, how can anything be so bad ? The disgrace of the high street.
hoonkerama - 2 Sep 2009 07:23
Probably the filthiest pub I have ever been in.
Undoubtedly the rudest staff and terrible service.
If this has been refurbished then I dread to think what it was like before.
Abandon all hope ye who enter here
