Large town centre pub that feels similar to a Wetherspoons. Interestingly a 'spoons has just opened up a few doors down and will no doubt provide stiff competition for this establishment, which sits on the banks of the river. A wedding reception was going on during our Saturday afternoon visit. 3 ales were on - Montys Sunshine, Wye Valley Butty Bach & Brains The Rev James. Average pub with something missing. Seems to get rather busy though.

Never quite sure what this place wants to be - it seems to attempt to be a restaurant come sports bar come town centre pub and fails to hit any of the targets. Could be anything with its superb location but needs some clear direction to make it happen.

I think LUCFEB is talking about a different pub as the manageress is definitely NOT called Margaret!!! It's a lovely pub/hotel and very professionally run, good service great beers! Like Waen Festival Landmark and Big Nev's.

I feel sorry for LUCFEB if they realy did spoil his wedding day. Bit wary though this is his only post. I made a few visits over the last Bank Holiday week end while staying at the Bell Found the service good as were the ales on sale especially Monty's Mojo

This Place is the worse place in the world for a wedding I highly reccommend that no body ever have their wedding their. They completly runied our wedding the most unprofessional rude people I have ever encountered in my life. They decided to tell us the night before the wedding that we had to lay the table we requested the bar to be open till 1am they kept it open until 11pm then kicked everyone out the waitresses where wearing ugg boots and vest tops with their hair down the manageress margaret was the most vile woman she is a lyer and a misurable woman I would not reccomend anyone having any kind of function here especially wedding as she will ruin it

What a difference since being taken over! Really good range of real ales, and at last I've found another local that serves Waen ales. I gather from the new manager that they are having a house brew done for them by the Waen, will look forward to that! Good food from the chef at lunch in the bar. Refurb beginning soon too

Vastly improved. Now a freehouse serving 3 excellent real ales.

This is a hotel with many rooms including some bothy rooms at the rear so the impersonal hotel style bar doesn't surprise. But on a warm evening sit outside below or on the river floodbank and enjoy a decent pint from the Montgommery brewery. Good luck to Stu in his search for mild. In our stay we didn't find a brown coloured pint let alone a dark one. Golden ales are everywhere in this part of Wales so unless drinking from a national brewers pub (e.g. Banks at the Buck) expect the lighter flavoured golden pints.

Looked OK but there was no MILD so carried on to the "Buck" a much more interesting pub.

Popular meeting place for local young set. Large old hotel beside the river, convenient for town centre.
