Never heard as much swearing
Very rude landlord
Some very ignorant customers that refused to let me to the door laughing at me as I am disabled

Will not recommend

I only recently moved to the village so my review is limited, the pub is beautiful on the surface ie beer and structure of the building but scratch the surface and many ugly things appear.
The landlady is a racist as she commented on the colour of my wife's skin, she didn't know we heard but she has a very loud voice.
Locals seem to get served first.
It is full of people gossiping and telling tales about people.

Definitely a local pub for local people ! Certainly didn't ecpect the landlord to be sat in the taproom swearing at the top of his voice abusing people while there was nobody behind the bar. Will think twice before calling here again.

The Star inn was refurbished to a very high standard about 12 month ago.Complete with coal fires in every room and decorated in the heritage colours of years gone by.Your hosts Andy and Sarah are extremely welcoming .The pub is owned by Sam Smiths so the prices are very competitive. There is ample parking and a very large bear garden to the rear.Plenty of room for the children to bring a football or cricket bat or just run some energy off.Children are only allowed in the pub aged 14 or over.Opening hours are Monday to Wednesday 12 till 4.Then 7 till 11.Thursday to Sunday 12 till closing.

I called in “The Star” the other night to find out that extensive renovations have been completed to a very high standard. I was suitably impressed to say the least. I can't believe the change that it's made to the establishment. Before it was only fit for the foul mouthed scum and the mutant inbreeds that are normally in the place.

Unfortunately some of the inbreeds remain. I draw your attention to this one in particular, I believe, called Darren Dews, his nickname is “Rahul Moat.” Well if the cap fits and this one certainly does fits like a glove! This dumb idiot is not fit to be out on his own, he should have a handler to control his mouth and frightening mood changes!

I can't imagine he's ever had a woman or a man that he didn't have to pay for. His temperament strikes me that he is unable to hold down any meaningful relationship. From a professional standpoint he should consider psychiatric assistance!

A very nice couple left their drinks and walked out because of this Moat's foul mouthed language. He probably thinks that it big and to clever to swear at the top of his voice; he obviously doesn't realize that this kind of behaviour makes him look so unintelligent fool of a peasant. He's most than likely a latent homosexual with a very small penis to boot as well.

The landlord should do his job and rid the public house of this peasant, Rahul Moat, permanently! Can he not realize that he's loosing a lot of money and customers because of this idiot “Moat” character. I'm sure that the landlord's employers would love to know about this situation and their employee's lack of attention to running the public house properly.

Yours

Backwater pub full of inbreds and halfwits.
Not a very welcoming atmosphere and beer only average.
Best thing about the place is the price of the beer.

I am an occassional Star drinker as I'm not from the village, and it quite amazes me the things that are being said in regard to present management by one individual. Could it be this individual be a little more than miffed?
I feel this is a good pub with good clientele, and management. It appears such a shame to have one real saddo who obviously has never had a life, be allowed to make attempts to mar its reputation....... However, some sympathy for this poor individual must be given. When is it help the mentally handicapped week again???

Good Luck you guys :-)

Visited this pub again last week after a long absence due to the releifs that were in for god knows how long, come on Sam Smiths, don't do this again to us!!!!
Beer back on form plenty of folks in there and at last a landlord and landlady that SMILE!! Nice to see Bob, the old landlord visiting, that says a lot for the pub, well done Sams you appear for once to have got it right

Nice to see a change of management, Andy and Sarah certainly know how to get a failing public house back on its feet.

The standard of the beers and lager has certainly improved. Someone should have told the previous manager and manageress what line cleaner is!

johnny333 - 16 Jun 2008 23:53
called in to the star for a drink,to find a new face behind the bar i was shocked to find out the reliefs had gone they was a good couple its just a shame they did not have the pub i have heard that it will be getting taken over again well the people i spoke to say the pub should have been given to out siders not locals colin and monica was doing a good job i called in the other friday it was busy in every room i dont no why the has been comments about the couple they did not deserve some of the things what have been said all i can say is a think the pub will go down hill now they have gone,it will just get back to how it use to be and thats a shame i think after all this time the pub should a been given to them

It.s me again checking on what was a good pub, have to agree with everything Allofnetherton has to say in his preview althouth i.m not from the village he/she is obviously talking on behalf of the village.Called in one friday and yes it smells yes it was quiet and it does appear people are not going in due to the relief managers.Although they probably get no help from there area manager who I was told by a local leaves a lot to be desired,c,ant put down what he really said about him [too rude].Anyway come on Sam,s get this pub back to how it was.

the star inn netherton what a lovely village pub.well it used to be. first of all sam smiths took all the tv,s and music out of the pub which the locals got over that. the villages could still go in and have a laugh and a joke after this. then the smoking ban which everybody has had to accept. but then the lovely village pub was hit with the biggest bombshell ever MONICA AND COLIN was put into the star as relief untill they could get a replacement for bob. how the pub is going to survive these two imbeciles god only knows. they have know idea what so ever in people management or pub manegement. why are they in this type of job god only knows and how sam smiths has employed these 2 god only knows. the sooner sam smiths realise these 2 imbeciles are running a lovely village pub down into the ground the sooner the better. this pub used to be the hub of the village but now the amount of people not going in because of these 2 imbeciles is unbelievable. and sam smiths should realise with the amount of takins they are loosing.the place is dirty and smells foul all the time. i speak for everyone in this close knit community.HOPE SAM SMITHS GETS THE MESSAGE.

Popped in on 10th May and the poor reliefs were still at it,the managers who were appointed in September 2007 are still waiting to move in? Tried a pint of cider which looked nice but tasted a bit flat. This pub was brilliant a year ago why not now? Should get the new managers in pronto and get it back to how it should be.The reliefs are ok but seem interested in running what was a good pub.
johnny333 - 11 May 2008 23:40
Called in to see if was still as bad,it was but it has its faithfull few in.The poor reliefs were at it again talked to Colin relief manager who was very pleasant he told me he was only in for a couple of weeks [been in 7 months].Apparentley Sams cannot afford to put the new managers in who are two local people. They have a pub in harrogate it appears Sams cannot afford to move them.Anyway had apint of obb hand pull and was a lot better than the last time i was in well done Colin.
johnny333 - 16 Apr 2008 23:14
Called in to see if there was any improvement at 9.30 pm Saturday 15th march. There was only two people in the place? Tried a pint of OBB which was palatable but when is the owner going to think of his customers and give what they want. They are obviosly cutting back on all costs as it was the relief couple working again.Left at 10.15pm and in total the pub had seven customers, all senior citizens, the place had unpleasant smell to it.May call back later to see any improvements have been made.
johnny333 - 18 Mar 2008 17:04
This pub was agem 9months ago the manager Bob was a typical yorkshireman very friendly and welcoming. the hand pull Sam Smiths was spot on.Bob has left leaving some reliefs who havent a clue.Unfortunetly its Sams Smiths usual no choice of beers and whats all that about there own spirits. Who would pay 2.45 for ashot of unkown malt whisky or brandy.Until someone decent takes over keep out.
