Pant Yr Ochain, Gresfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
This was our favourite pub of 10 during our visit to North East Wales. It's more of a restaurant than a pub and to be honest I would have probably felt a little uncomfortable just coming here for a drink. As it was, we chose to eat here and enjoyed a very nice meal. The ale range was the best we saw during the day - Hawkshead Citrillo, Weetwood Cheshire Cat, Brunning & Price Original, Flowers Original, Purple Moose Snowdonia Ale & Titanic Stout. Westons Traditional was the real cider. The building, although more reminscent of a stately home from the outside, is very nice. The interior has tables spread out all around a central bar with plenty of pictures and bookshelves giving the appearance of a library. There were plenty of staff available behind the bar and waiting on tables. Not a proper pub, but a very satisfactory experience.

Nice setting, looks very much like a stately library. The food was ok but not superb, the girl didnt know what was on the dish. My meal came with huge chunks of blue cheese, nice flavour combinations but totally overpowered the rest of the meal. My partners portion was that much they couldnt finish it which doesnt impress. Beer was as you would expect, very good. Service fine and friendly. More quality, less quantity, then you might have just nailed it!

That name is just showing off but I did like this pub. A range of ales and knowledgeable staff, a nice place if a bit of a restaurant. Didn't have a very long visit (even if it was, technically, a first date...) but I liked the place a lot.

Been coming here since it opened, and we go there pretty well every week - so "generalstaal", I would call it a local. Loads of well kept local and national beer of which the staff are rightly proud and they're always keen to give you a taste of the new one on. If price worries you, go between 5 and 7pm during the week for 50p off. Food by far the best in the area.
Best of all, the staff all make you feel really welcome.
Just need a bed there, and I could call it home

Impressive 16th Century Country manor house set in it's own grounds, complete with lake. No less than 12 handpumps on the bar serving an interesting mix of beers including local welsh and other micro-breweries. All beers tried were in top condition. Huge selection of Whisky also available. There were plenty of friendly staff so we didn't have to wait long to get served despite it being busy when we visited. The food menu was impressive and all the meals we saw being served looked (and smelt!) very tempting. The large beer garden looks out over the lake and has ample seating. Will definitely re-visit this pub to eat at some time in the near future. The only thing stopping me give this pub a 10 rating is that the beer prices are a bit steep (well over 3) so a 9 it is. Well worth seeking out.

Great bar staff, excellent food and very good beer.
Titanic, Welsh Dragon,Derwents and TT all went down smoothly.
If you are looking to have a drink on a nice day, this is the place to go as the beer garden is huge and over looks a lake.
Will be back soon

The location of this pub is superb. The grounds are immaculate, with a beautiful garden overlooking a lake.
I tried a pint of Midnight Stout, Thwaites and Old Dog Bitter, and all three were delicious.
My wife and I ate a three course meal and it was utterly wonderful. The portions were of a good size. The pie that arrived on the table next to us was huge. And it was real pie!
I could think of nothing better than sitting in the grounds all afternoon, reading the newspaper, reading a book, or enjoying the converstion of friends, watching the wildlife on the lake, drinking beer, then eating a fabulous meal in this well-kept pub.
Not a local pub, but definitely one for special occasions, and perhaps, a more discerning customer.
10/10!

Wow, nice location..! The menu looked outstanding with lots of seasonal fare and regional produce; sadly for us we couldnt reserve a table for the evening meal as it was fully booked, not a mean feat considering the size of the place. Excellent ales (there was a minimum of five to choose from with two local ales) also a fine array of bottled continental beer and an extensive wine list..
We picked up our pints and settled in a bay window surrounded by a library, the beer was outstanding! Sadly if there is a criticism it was that the doors were open everywhere, with the central heating on and a raging fire going in the middle of June..? Not very environmental, but I suppose it was so hot in places to accommodate the varying ages of the cliental??

Ok, so the location is cool, but the food is mediocre, the attitude towards children is decidedly snotty, considering they expect you to buy full adult meals for them. You decide, but different attitude altogether at the Combermere Arms, Burleydam (and same chain!)

I agree entirely with bargroper although not so keen on the non-smoking. However, I suppose we're going to have to get used to it, dammit.

No amount of superlatives will suffice to describe the experience this pub has to offer. Its country house setting with lake and immaculate gardens is a fine introduction to the delights inside. Excellent real ales (at least 6) and high quality food in a mainly smokeless zone (The whole place is to be smoke free soon).
What makes the place special however is the warm atmosphere generated by appreciative clients and cultivated by staff carefully selected for their natural ability to keep everyone happy.
Why am I telling you all this? I need to keep the place to myself.
