Lovely looking 17th century pub that was busy on Good Friday. They don't take advance bookings so we were grateful to Eddie (a patron for 30 years) who kindly vacated his regular table so that we could sit at it for the evening in the left-hand room in front of the woodburner. There is another similar (dining?) room with a less impressive fireplace on the other side of the bar counter accessed solely via its own external door. As befits somewhere which has been in the Good Beer Guide forever (apart from one year), the Brakspear Gravity was in very good condition at £5.10 a pint. The Young's London Special wasn't quite as good and I didn't try the London Original. They may have slightly overcharged us (all sums done with pen and paper) and the wine could have been better but the food was good and we enjoyed visiting this friendly village pub.

We enjoyed a walk over to here from nearby Chinnor and sat in the garden on one of the first good days of the year enjoying a pint and some well-earned food. Good service all-round and a very friendly welcome. Prices are highish, but not as bad as some in the area. Veggie food options a bit overpriced for what they are, but they are very tasty.

Nice country pub. Low ceilings. Central bar, several nooks and crannies and most tables laid out for dining.
Decent pint of Brakspear Bitter.
Would pop back again.

In addition to all that....best fish and chips I've ever had in a pub.

One of my favourite pubs....and a short hop from the M40. Why anyone would go to a service station when this is five minutes off the motorway is a mystery to me.

Having aqquired a dog within the last year, walking has had to become a necessary part of life. And aren't I glad too! This smashing pub ticks all the boxes..dog friendly..easy parking..great walks..and the beer was perfect (Brakespears Special as guest) and the food was 10/10..But don't call the barmaid/landlady JANET !!

Very friendly pub, quite small and gets very busy during lunchtime, but lovely food and beer. Quite restrictive serving times. Very good pub to remember if you're travelling on the M40 and need lunch (when the pub is serving). Small play area in the garden for kiddies and fairly child-friendly but no baby-changing facilities.

Cracking old pub, has been in the Camra Good Beer Guide every year apart from one when the landlord changed some years back. You are almost guaranteed a consistently good pint and the food is recommended. prices are a bit heavty mind you, but then thats this part of the Country for you, it's the same down south, i can assure you of that.

Lovely Pub, friendly landlord, beer above average. But 7.80 for 2xpints, 1 bag nuts & 1 (small) bag scratchings?
Welcome to middle England!!

Excellent village pub about one minute from the M40. Low beams, several rooms, nice garden. Friendly welcome and Brakspears in good condition. An infinitely better place to stop than Oxford services, but it is unfortunately shut in the afternoons.
