Excellent pub, spacious catering for food with a good choice and my meal was fab. Friendly and attentive bar maid. 8 hand pumps with a fine selection - Tolchards Devon Coast 4%, Severn Late Hopped Pale 4.4, house ale Prison Break 3.9, Belhaven 1719 4.5, Robinsons Dizzy Blonde 3.8, Animal Oink 4.6, Loddon Six Pack 4.2 and West Berkshire Good Old Boy 4 which was superb. (There are also fizzy beers for those that prefer that sort of thing).

Has recently been taken over by swiss-german/american chef (friendly chap) and is now definitely a restaurant rather than a pub. Lunch is very good value (£10 for 2 courses), Broad Face is currently probably the best place to eat in Abingdon.

Decent pint of GK Celebration as it should be at 3:50/pint. Patio area was poor being blighted by noisy chiller compressors that sit in adjacent yard whilst the firniture and whole area need a bloody good clean and tidy up. All of those are matters that the landlord has control over and the whole demeanour was that the nice location will bring in customers & we don't have to work hard to maintain proper standards. Shan't be going back till it gets sorted. Disappointing.

The Broad Face has the feel of a light and airy cafe bar. In a town dominated by Greene King pubs with their predictable roster of beers, the interesting choice of cask ales here is an attraction in itself. On the night we visited, the offerings included delicious Cheshire Gold from Warrington and Leghorn Bitter from Knaresborough. The pub offers Camra members a 40p-a-pint discount and 20% off some meals.
For diners there's a good varied menu with all the usual pub classics for around a tenner, but the head-turning speciality is steak cooked at your table on a hot stone. Each time one of these 'black rock grills' is brought out, it sends a delicious waft of steak through the room.
Eight of us went for dinner on a Saturday evening, having booked just a couple of hours beforehand. Despite the complication of two of our party turning up late, the young waiting staff were very helpful. It was fairly busy, but we didn't have to wait too long for our meals and everyone was satisfied, although more vegetables would probably have been welcome. The chips accompanying several of the meals were piled into an extraordinary square 'pyre'... a bit over the top, but an interesting talking point!

Now has the original pub sign hanging outside. Certainly a Gastro pub. 14 for steak, not too bad a price. I would not go here just to drink.

The pub has recently been taken over and the new landlord is really making an effort with the place. New menu that is reasonably priced and 40p off a pint if you are a Camra member. The beer is mainly boring Green King but its normally in very good condition

I'd agree with the comments from George_The_Dragon, betterpubsforswansea and BoehmBawerk.
I've never felt entirely comfortable as a drinker in here; maybe it's something to do with the airiness of the place and the floorboards. The Brewery Tap is the one for me in Abingdon.

Once one of the best pubs in central Abingdon it is now pipped IMHO by the Brewery Tap which offers a better atmosphere. The food is fine here but not outstanding, the beer is fresh and well kept. Certainly worth a visit.

I feel the Broadface is trying to be more than it really is. The bar is very good, with a decent selection of ales and spirits. However, they seem to be aiming at the 'gastropub' clientele, and this is where they fall down. The food is good, but far from outstanding. Its good quality pub fare at quite a high price, but nothing more than that.

Good town pub, the front bar is known locally as the "Star Wars" bar.

This place somewhat wastes a prime location close to the Thames in this market town, once in Berkshire, now sadly relegated to inferior Oxfordshire. It is above average in most respects although one suspects that it will have been much better in days gone by. Morland and other ales are on tap and the food is passable. The friendly staff are the chief reason to pay a visit however.
|
Agreed that they need to sort out the food seating to drink seating ratio, but all-in-all it's friendly enough. Infinitely better than the Nags Head.

More of a resteraunt now than a pub, pricy but tasty food. Usually has a good pint in and a large selection of wine, just not much seeting if you're not eating!
