Many are wondering if this pub's name is now appropriate.

One of those gastropubs which overdoes the eating at the expense of the drinking and really, the burgers on offer, while appearing to be perfectly decent, don't justify all the white furnishings and flashiness. A pint from Wisbech's Elgood's stable did go down well and our sitting at the bar without eating was tolerated without quibble.

Still have high hopes for this place but my visits here have been disapointing. Food OK but not as good as they seem to think it is, beer not prominant (but beer festival coming soon so lets see) and atmosphere lacking.
For a pint try the White Hart 50 yds away, sorry but its much better for drinking.

A fairly down-at-heel boozer that's been tarted up into a gastro-pub. Unfortunately it's not been done with any great taste or imagination - basically the bar's been painted white, there's awful white flock wallpaper, and a ghastly seventies-style plastic lampshade in the middle of the ceiling. Food was reasonable, although limited choice - the steak and chips were good (but no veg!), but the chocolate mousse was much too thin in consistency and a very small portion. Beer was reasonable but can't imagine anyone going here in the evenings if they just want a drink.

Went to (sadly empty) reopening and had steak and chips like the last poster. 10/10 for the food one of the best steaks I've had in a while. Only had Old Speckled Hen on (which was fine) but promised there was another ale coming soon. With a couple more ales and a few more punters this will be a pretty good pub.

Just been on first night with new owners - excellent food, (perfect steak and chips for 10), decent beer and friendly service. Deserves to be packed - will definately be going back.

No cask ales last night on my first visit. A good bar menu. We had he battered coley (an co alternatie to haddock, so points there for effort) and chips with peas and salad. Good value at 6.95, though batter was a bit soggy. Atmosphere a bit thin - rather cold, felt empty despite about 20 people in, decor a bit alienating -trying too hard to be modern and cool, I think. Staff friendly enough, food quite quick and freshly cooked.
7 points for food 0 for beer 4 for atmosphere and decor
There are several 'Black Boy' pubs around. It usually refers to an old tobbacconist logo or links to the abolition of slavery.

Traditional outside, snazzy modern inside. Beer selection was OK but only a few cask ales. Didn't eat there but the restaurant looks upmarket. Cosy fireplace and couches. Don't understand the name. Should ask next time I'm there.

This got an award recently I believe. Don't know how - last time I was in there (2005) it was pretty empty - intimidating atmosphere of a few locals by the bar and felt quite out of place. Beer was pretty poor too - maybe we just went on a bad night?
Pool table and darts...
