Thwaites tied house on Bootham and the perfect stop for a quick pre match pint.
5 hand pumps with 3 ales (all from the Thwaites stables) and a cider on. I went for the Lancaster Bomber @ 4.4%, a thoroughly decent pint.
On a Saturday afternoon it was catering for the sports crowd, with a few large screens showing the Rugby, a TV showing the horse racing and another the football scores. Pretty packed with both men and women, nearly all locals by the look of it.
Never been here before but from this quick visit I can recommend it for a pre or post-match pint.

The White Horse is a sports orientated pub, which does have a number of big screens. All sorts of people from all walks of life use the pub, ranging from pensioners, professionals, couples, golf societies, groups of males/ females, hens/stags.

Just awful. Full of thugs and big TVs.
|
Just outside of the city walls, this is a long narrow traditional pub. Friendly atmosphere with a good mix of people. Thwaites beers seem to be the main offering.

The white horse will be having a St Pats disco and karaoke night on the fifteenth of march. Starts at eight and goes on till late. All welcome no admission cost. just good laughs and good beer.

we stayed 1st to 3rdmarch 2008 i would recommend this pub it was an ideal location close to the shops and not far to crawl after a night out or two round the pubs.you could come and go when you wanted without having to go through the pub.the staff were very friendly the room was clean and tidy the breakfast was very nice i liked the time 9am-9.30am very good after a few pints.i only had one problem and that was it was on a busy road lorries going past at 6am not to good if you didn't get in till 3am

Very friendly and helpful staff. Used the pub as a stop off to explore the city of York, and it was great! Close to the station, and the whole city within walking distance. Good friendly atmosphere, with great beer! A real find!!!!

If you like sport, music, pool, friendly staff and a good banter with locals then this is the place to be. A lovely traditional pub with a great atmosphere and helpful friendly staff, if your visiting York then make sure you pop in here.

I've stayed in the White Horse recently and experienced no problems. The staff were warm and friendly. The pub is very clean and there is a wide choice of excellent real ales to choose from. Its well placed for the city centre and only 2 mins from the Minster. I'd recommend this pub to anybody visiting york.

Made the mistake of staying in this pub. Opening hours displayed outside are not the hours they use.Was not served after 11 on Sunday night so went to bed and was kept awake by the landlords mates till early hours who then didn't bother to get out of bed to make breakfast. No milk or coffee in room just tea bags. Then took money out of bank account for a night we weren't there had to claim money back through Visa.

Called in for a pint of Thwaites Bomber lovely pint not seen anywhere else in York, afternoons this pub is quiet which suited me on a hot day pool table was busy, pop in you will be surprised.

A pleasant city based Thwaites pub, with TVs for sports and a few locals. However, very welcoming.
