food was disappointing, also i was told by barman that we could order food in this bar but if we wanted drinks we would have to go a different bar even though there were beer pumps there! apparently they have so many different bars that they do food in some and beer in others!! work that one out lol

A very good pint of Wadworth "Horizon" to be had. A lovely historic interior with open courtyard for the summer months. 8/10

This is a classic pub to visit during the winter months - a nice roaring fire, an interesting interior and exterior (although the trip to the conveniences can just be a little too interesting in adverse weather) and a cracking menu.

Beer is Wadworth - primarily 6X.

Been in a few times, but the place is mainly a tourist pub now. not tried the food, a bit too close to home for that.

Great location, very atmospheric. Beer choice ok. Haven't eaten myself, but have heard good reports.

Heaving with atmoshpere, good beer, hearty protions (especially Sunday lunch) - in all, a great 'olde worlde' pub - with the history to back it up. Been with work colleagues (with overseas guests) and with my very young family, and it catered well for both. Ask about the dungeon dining room for that special occcasion! Good walk to the rear. A top pub. Booked for Mothers day!

have had a number of visits there - especially when guests are visiting. Fantastic atmosphere, great bar - have eaten in the large dining room which feels like a medieval baqueting hall. Really good food and not too badly priced. Well worth a trip !

This is truly a wonderful example of an olde worlde English pub. I am told that this old property is frequently used by Drama and movie makers because of its authentic backdrop. The food offered is good value although it is essential that bookings are made prior to arrival. Walk down to the beer garden on a fine summers day and I wager you wont find a more English scene anywhere in the land. The view of the church, the village cricket green and the surroundings are superb.

the duke of monmouth should have knocked it down in the pitchfork revelution instead of using it as his headquarters. the ales are from the same centuary along with the clientelle

Very fascinating pub and so nice to feel the history all around you. Its a pity they don't do more to try to bring that across for customers.
