Rose and Crown Inn, Slipper Bridgeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Noticed that a lot of the comments are quite old. We have been going to the pub for long time, and would make the observation that the pub has changed hands several times and since.
It's one of those pubs you have to drive to, but we have never had a bad meal, and we usually avoid Sunday lunch and Mothers Day etc.
We have found that current the owners are pleasant, they try hard and the beer is well kept.
Food is reasonably priced and varied, and always cooked to order, and when it has been busy, you need to be patient...

Popped in for a drink and a meal one afternoon a few weeks ago. Beer was good and food good, not exceptional but generous portions and very enjoyable. Would go again if in the area.

I agree with Sweeting 29. Gone downhill a bit. Restricted opening times. It has just changed hands a week ago so we shall see.

Its hard to get the wrong pub, but even harder to find it open as they only open limited hours. We have always found the food pretty good, if basic and limited menu at times. the beer is very well kept, but I agree the service is pretty poor. The landlady is away recuperating or something and her stand-in is a misery and a bit past it. She is helped by school girls, who are not trained. Not a bad pub for food in a bit of a desert for decent eaing places in Howdenshire.

I think the people who left the previous reviews must have got the wrong pub!! My partner and I have eaten here at least five times in the last year and each time the food has been exceptional. We have even taken my brother, who is very fussy and even he thought the food was excellent - the lamb especially. The portions are extremely generous, the veg is good and the potatoes are delicious. Each time we struggle to finish our meals. Being a female, I have a separate stomach for desserts and I have found them to be excellent too. I recommend the amaretto cheesecake!!

I was amazed to see negative comments about this pub, although one reviewer found it so bad he went back again to be sure and another complained about the food that he didn't have. Ah well, it takes all sorts. My Wife and I have been eating here, once, sometimes twice a week for the last 12 months and have never had anything to complain about. The quality of the food is superb, as is the quantity and the service. I particularly like the comfortable lounge where one can sit until the meal is served and after the meal return to sit in comfort to enjoy a coffee or drinks. The staff have never been anything but very friendly but I do concede that the young waitresses sometimes employed there seem to have had a personality by-pass.

Been going to this place for a while now for sunday lunch and today will be my last.I booked in for 1.30 for four we arrived at 12.30 to be told to sit at the table for dinner straight away !.We was then hassled with immature waitresses several times for our order.the place was not even busy !!!.we was told "oh but its going to get busy".12.55 was hurried through to our table. The woman behind the bar was a very stroppy person and seemed to be stressed out.The veg is served to a minimum and by my standards more veg should be offered. We were having the meal with my sister and husband who had travelled 50 miles and I was not impressed at all at the service. My review is do not book when the oldish woman behind the bar is on her own.It was totally ruined today by bad service and measley tight portions of vegatables.Me and my hubby will not be going no more.

Last year my good lady and I took it upon ourselves to whet our whistles at this pub......I waited at the bar for almost 10 minutes before catching the barmans eye......I ordered a pint of Timothy Taylors and a Britvic for my squeeze.....and then I was asked if I had ordered my food.......I replied that we just wanted a drink.....whereupon we were both asked to leave!! It was very embarrassing indeed! As we left for the door we were told that "this is an EATING HOUSE!" So, be warned! If you just want a drink, youre not welcome! I shall never return....the foods not much to shout about anyhow......and the portions are a total ripoff! A chum and I were fighting over a single piece of broccoli that was served up on a dish with our meagre slice of steak pie. Get thee to Blacktoft instead....by the river behind Gilberdyke.......stunning ales & good food.

Great pint of Everards Tiger on sale in April 2006.

Only open at lunchtimes and teatimes (March 2006), but today when we trtied it was Excellent food, a great welcome and pretty popular. Draught Wytchwood real ale, plus a few mansfields, including dark. Good wine range, not too expensive. Food was about 5 starters, 8 main courses (all home cooked, very fresh vegetables) and 5 desserts, you pay 6.95 for one course, 8.50 for 2 or about a tenner for a 3 course meal. I think they do full a la carte in evenings. The decor is dated, but neat and clean - huge comfy sofas, scatter cushions, and genuine memorabilia to appeal to older people - pix of warships, Winston and Queen Victoria on the walls, plus other oldy people too. Superb garden outside with deep fish pond full of koi, etc. Loads of parking. Seems tghe old A63 has been renamed with a forgettable B number, but this will always be tghe old A63 to any Yorkshireman (just as with Route 66!)
