user reviews of the Village House Hotel, Findon

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

5.70 for a pint and a half of Fosters....difficult to see how the pub trade is going to survive even in rural areas such as the tranquil and beautifully-set Findon with such pricing. Surely the number of patrons for whom this is affordable/sustainable, and likely to focus their social lives around pubs nowadays must be diminishing? 'Robust' pricing aside, a pleasant enough place with above average pub food and some great racing mementoes on the walls.

This is a really nice pub, the food is excellent and compared with anything else available in the village its world class. if the pubs empty you can feel a little stuck out as its a big old place. the beer on offer is a wide range but nothing special(pride, sussex, kronie, bulmers, press). they do have one guest ale on which changes regularly. the staff are very pleasant and the landlord and lady are a lovely couple who go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. only one grumble they don't show much football, can't have everything.

Nothing more than a very average pub. The beer selection is nothing to rave about and nor is the food menu, worth popping in if your having a few drinks in the Village but with John Henrys and the Snooty Fox this doesnt come close to them 2 pubs.

I am a partner in the Village House and have been asked to look into comments on this site. I would really like to stress that none of the 'reviews' below have anything to do with us. we really welcome criticism, good and bad, and after checking some comments, discovered they were made, with very good intentions, by some regular customers who frequently read the site. We would really welcome anyone who has posted a comment below to come and visit and have a chat, and hopefully you would see that 'mdp's' would be the last thing we would do. We absolutely do not operate like that.
So here is to honest reviews of our pub, good and bad, because the site is a great idea. cheers

I have been to this pub about 4 times over the past year, the food is great quality and tastes superb. Its obvious that they must have a talented chef in that kitchen.

The staff are friendly and the general look and feel of the pub is really nice.

Highly recommended.

I have visited the Village House on several occasions before & since their refurbishment about a year ago, & I have to say that it has vastly improved since. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is always good. The food is very tasty, well presented & competitively priced. I would especially recommend the fish & chips, or free range chicken, leek & mushroom pie - both great. Enjoy!

We frequently visit the Worthing area - and have eaten in The Village Inn on many occasions. Without exception, our meals have always been very tasty, well prepared, well presented and with excellent service. No cause to complain - and we'll keep coming back for more!

Finally - a pub with free range chicken on the menu! Well presented honest food, with excellent service too. We shall be coming back soon.

Went in to their restaurant with some friends on friday night..what a load of rubbish!!!
Just as an example my starter sounded good on the menu
"Sliced tomatoes on a toasted ciabatta with mozarella" at around 6 I expected something a bit more well presented and edible.
However, I got a roll cut in half which was toasted to the consistency of a brick with 2 thick slices of under ripe cheap tomatoes and a bit of mozarella that dissapeared with the first miniscule mouthful.
The other starters were not much better and as we had already ordered our main courses we were hoping for something better.
Not to be though as it was all a bit amateurish and tasteless.
The surroundings were not much better and it had no atmosphere whatsoever.
This all cost us over 100 for 4 people and we didn't have wine and only a couple of drinks.
Be warned, this is a pub pretending to be a restaurant and if the food that we had was anything to go by it's an absolute rip off!!!

Although I am not a local resident I do come down to findon v.regularly to visit relatives. I remember this place years ago. It was tacky and not particularly welcoming. What a complete change. Bright, clean interior. The food is great and the staff are so, so friendly. Even though I'd only been in a couple of times since its refurb one of the ladies' behind the bar recognised me. Each time I go in it gets busier and busier. keep up the good work!! Definately worth a visit. 10/10!!

Im new to the area, so have only known The Village House for a few months. Its had a bit of a face lift in the last few weeks - the bar has moved and there are a few more tables etc etc, but it still has that homely feel about it. As mentioned by the other reviewers, the food is great. We have eaten here a couple of times in the last few months and have never been disappointed. Fantastic value for tasty, freshly cooked food. Well worth a visit.

Agree with richardcouerdelion, much needed change of management.Tony Hills and his crew have the midas touch.Have eaten there since Silverthorne took over the catering and look forward to eating there again.

Just taken over by the most experienced and successful publican Worthing has ever seen-Tony Hills-ex the Hare and Hounds and still running the Last Resort on the sea front. The day to day responsibility for management is with his son, but hospitality appears to be in their DNA. Food is by the talented Oliver Silverthorne. A winning combination if ever there was one. The Brewery knew what they were doing when they asked Tony to move in here. Had a couple of good meals here.
