please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The previous correspondent is correct: this is now a Mitchells & Butlers premises and a gastropub. Well worth visiting for a good quality set lunch served by smart staff. The refundable parking charge system has gone. It is OPEN: the BitE title should be changed and old comments and ratings before refurbishment deleted.

This pub is neither Harvester or Ember inns any longer is now in the Mitchell and Butler "gastropub" group. Have posted this as previous comments so outdated. We visited the week before Christmas for lunch. The place was heaving with Christmas parties so we thought we had made a mistake but not so. Our waiter was very efficient and made sure he got our order in quickly before the large tables that surrounded us. We had the set lunch menu that was excellent value and top notch quality. You have to pay to park and get a refund off your bill which is a bit annoying and easy to forget but assume this is due to non restaurant users parking there all day so suppose they are assuring parking for diners. Other than that excellent place and a great new find.

This is still the Tudor Rose, not Ember Inns as posted under Ember Inns. Is owned by them for sure, but not not named Ember Inn!!!!!!!!!!!

Now seems to be a large 70s style bar! However, at least it's better than the old Harvester. Went there the Saturday before Xmas, and the place was more or less full by 8.30pm. There were 4x bar staff constantly serving, so even though they were a bit inexperienced, valuable hours weren't wasted queuing. The beer was fine, the food standard Mitchells & Butler, and because there are no other pubs nearby (I don't include the Fox for obvious reasons), it could be a little gold mine. Time will tell.

They haven't made it any better either. Now refurbished into an Ember Inn "desirable surroundings youd want at home and genuine friendliness make it the best Pub for comfortable and relaxed conversation" - M&B's suburban version of Vintage Inns. So out with the infamous salad cart, in with the pretend gastropub. Indeed all pretty smart.

What they've failed to refurbish is the service. In the ten minutes I was waiting to be served I counted six people all very busy faffing about doing anything but serve customers. There was no sign of anyone taking charge and organising things. When I was eventually attended to it was discovered that the Harvey's Best was 'off' though I suspect it never had been 'on' all morning but that no-one had bothered to check and turn the pump clip round. We decided to cut our losses and retreated to rather more genuine desirable surroundings youd want at home blah blah blah.

Still gets 0 points as I didn't get to have a drink and doubt I will ever want to in future.

Closed for refurb, maybe the chay/pikey traffic will find somewhere else when it reopens.

I happen to know the Assistant manager in here. An absolute jobs worth lacking in any real people skills. Two words - power trip. Yeah not a great place to drink, head to The Fox instead

What a dump should have remained closed once the Tudor Rose gave up having a public bar - yeuch...

Don't go here! Entered with a group of 4 friends, wanting to eat, and were completley ignored for the first 10 minutes. Eventually, what appeared to be the manager appeared from drinking with a group in the bar area and told us a table would be ready in 10 minutes. After another 10 mins (now 20mins since we first came in)he approached us and told us that since none of us had proof we were over 18 - company policy(we only wanted FOOD not BOOZE!) we were not allowed to eat in the restaurant. Although this is not mentioned on the harvester website OR when we called to see if we could book. I commented politely it would have been less rude if they told us that BEFORE making us wait 20minutes - truly awful service and extremly rude staff. And what an stupid policy - you have to have an 18year old with you to eat? completly barmy. Especially as some of my friends have been served vodka here since they were 14....

This pub has suffered terribly from having a new manager foisted on it every 6 months or so. Most have proven clueless, so the pub is in a downwards spiral. What was a nice village pub only 5 or 6 years ago is rapidly turning into a crack house. Its a shame.

Terribly depressing, smelly, shabby pub area. Building sites have more atmosphere, and are certainly cleaner. If you are waiting for a table in the restaurant, it might be better to sit in the car park.
CountryBoy - 1 Jan 2007 18:31
Drinking in this pub is like drinking in the middle of a building site. Shame cos it looks OK from the outside, but don't be fooled it's awful inside.
Jen_Jam - 19 Oct 2006 18:10
truly awful. even the orange juice is bad. long live the Tudor Rose!
jalfrezi - 19 Apr 2006 16:03
Why are the few pubs in this area so dreadful. At least this one doesn't have the pretensions of the Vintage Inn down the road. They know they're shite and don't care. Tables with half eaten meals left on them for hours, ashtrays overflowing. I've been to better motorway services. No real ale.
