This place has had a big re-fit, and bar area is really nice. 4 or so real ales including Black sheep, Doom bar and Proper Job. nice open feel with patio to rear. Pool table and big screens as well and pretty good for a Hotel bar.

I dont normally use Hotel bars as they tend to be dear but this one was OK. 8 hand pulls of which 4 were blank. On were Tim Taylors Landlord, Old Speckled Hen and Batemans Summer Swallow. I had a very nice pint of Black Sheep Bitter for 2.50.

Liked it very much indeed on a return visit; a very basic hotel bar, but a real ale-house character and warmth. I thought the beer range was ambitious, but the quality of the Mauldons seasonal was very high. In a great street too.

Very much a hotel bar with a decent range of boring bog standard ales... Chose the most exciting on offer - a Purple Moose offering - and it had turned so far it had done a 360. Everything was just a tad too grubby for my liking, but on the plus side it was close to the train station.

Always an interesting range of beers, often with a theme (e.g. stouts for Halloween), always in good condition, this pub deserves its reputation for fine ales. Also an extensive selection of Belgian Beers, often with one on tap too. Very relaxing big comfy blue sofas (too comfy sometimes!) and affordable pub meals too make this a popular choice with locals and visitors alike. Can get smokey by the bar, but there is a seperate room for diners/drinkers who dont smoke.
