Visited here in Feb 17 after a long ardeous walk and what a gem. There must have been 15+ ciders all in cask or polypin, it took at least 5mins to decide. Sadly only stayed for two, could easily have stayed all afternoon and into the evening with that choice. We just missed the lunch menu, so can''t comment on food but barmaid and locals were on top form. Look forward to returning. Butty bach also on tap, but was definitely on cider mode that day. Well worth visiting.

I wondered where we were going to end up when friends took us out for a beer. What a fabulous little pub.
Plenty of ciders and a couple of well kept beers available; we opted for the Bankers Draft and the Butty Bach.
There is food available and plenty of outside seating under the escarpment. There were several streams flowing down this and along with the surging river it was a very scenic spot. Parking is an issue and I guess the easiest way to deal with that would be to arrive via the foot bridge from Redbrook.

As good as I remember, when I visited over the recent bank holiday. The beer range appears to be smaller, but is more than made up for by the cider range.
Food quality good, friendly and welcoming.

Small old stone pub next to the Wye. Really interesting range of local ciders (15 or so) and a couple of local ales too. Simple food but quite tasty and freshly cooked.
Seemed to be a locals/hikers pub (which is fine)...lots of folks getting quite p!ssed on the cider, but with a friendly atmosphere. It's a lot more "worn around the edges" than their website suggests but it was good fun visiting. Definitely go back if I get the chance.
Tip: it's next to an old railway bridge across the Wye so it's possible to walk, but not drive, across the river.

Visited on the weekend. Great pub in a great location. Wonderful selection of ciders and Wye Valley Ales on good form. Will definitely not be driving when I go back.

The pub to visit south of Monmouth. It has had a bumpy few years but recently has gone back to its best. Simple riverside stone-flagged floor, friendly welcome, delicious Butty Bach and even packets of Bombay Mix! There is a car park in Redbrook on the English bank so you can park and walk across the old railway bridge. About 8 years ago the pub was famed for its tasty and good value curries. I see they're back on the menu but haven't tried them. Live music on Tues & Thurs.
But there is one major drawback - you have to go home sometime.

Following our visit to The Saracen's Head at East Symonds Yat, the faithful chauffeur & manservant, Champ, conveyed us to The Boat Inn. It is exactly as described by "Phantom Raspberry", bar the fact that it was a beautiful April afternoon, so a log fire would have been totally superfluous.

The pub is set in a very pretty location indeed, and it was a pleasure to sit outside watching, through a rheumy, pickled-onion eye, more canoeists trying their hardest to kill themselves!

Wye Valley Brewery's "Butty Bach" was in top form and I partook of a few which went down particularly well with a bowlful of Presbyterian in my favourite Straight Bulldog Pipe, whilst poor old Champ, the wrinkled retainer, had to make do with Vimto, or some such other vile muck.

The food looked and smelled delicious, but I never actually got around to ordering let alone eating as my back teeth were floating due to imbibing an excess of the aforementioned "Butty Bach".

A lovely little pub in a bucolic location, worth a highly respectable 7/10.

Checked this pub out after a break of some 5-6 years.
I was pleased to see the location is as unspoilt as ever and the pub itself much better than I remember it. A proper pub with a welcoming log burner. Dog friendly.
Sampled the beers and fine lunchtime food on two days over the last weekend and both were top-notch and cheap (2.50/pint)- 4x bitters straight from the barrels behind the bar, good value homemade food was filling and tasty.
Beers were 4-5 / 5 - Wye Valley Butty Bach and Editors, Backwater Voodoo and Landlord. Good ciders and a perry, which was dangerously drinkable!
Visit soon.

When I first found this pub on a walking holiday in the Wye Valley in 1983 I thought I'd gone to heaven. More recently it went sadly downhill. I'm interested to hear it's changed hands - I think it might be time for another visit.

Would echo the comments on location - it's worth a visit even if you don't go in!
Superb home cooked pub grub and a great selection of ales as well as more ciders than you can shake a stick at!

Home-cooked food, great beer properly kept. Haven for a few local dogs.

This pub changed hands a while back and has improved drastically. The new landlord is very friendly and helpful. Beer is excellent

I haven't been to this pub for some time but it has to be one of my all time favourites. The location is awesome, the beer and cider excellent. I first went there 30 years ago and five years ago it hadn't changed a bit. I would be upset to think it had gone downhill.

For location alone this pub has to be a 10. I heard it being discussed in the Builders, New Barnet just the other day. Haven't been there since it changed hands, but the crossing from Redbrook to Penallt is worth it alone.

I first visited this place about 8 years ago when it was run by a very attractive woman called Dawn. It was superb - excellent beers, brilliant music, vital ambience (the location is wonderful). But I went back last year and was so disappointed that it had changed hands and was now run in a very lacklustre way. It looks tired and rundown now. I hope someone can resurrect it one day.

Landlord selling lease, so will post an updated review next year

Old fashioned pub in a lovely location. Good beers and Orchard's cider on tap.

This is a nice old fashioned, no frills pub on a beautiful stretch of the River Wye. There's a great circular, though pretty steep, walk up to Penallt, where you can stop at the Bush Inn after the climb.
Unfortunately the food is very poor (chips excluded) and bar staff lack any charisma.
Great to sit outside and watch the dogs play and occasionally salmon jumping.

Lovely little pub, situated by the picturesque River Wye with varying real ales served straight from the cellar. Good hearty food, small garden and a log fire in the winter. Very popular with walkers. (If you're driving, park the other side of the river next to the football pitches in Redbrook, then cross the old railway bridge and the border into Wales!)
