Excellent. Great ale, friendly bar man, good character, and great views out the window! Well worth a visit.

A decent pub across the road from the station. We started our rail ale trail here and it set us off on a good footing. 6 cask ales available, no complaints.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon to watch the football and drink some real ale - wasn't disappointed with the choice and quality of the beer. Had Millstone "Tiger Rut", Moorhouses "Blonde Witch" and Copper Dragon "Golden Pippin" and were all fantastic. Great place to visit for a change from the city and easy to get too.

Had a great Sunday afternoon there. Superb pints of Tiger Rut, excellent sandwich, live band, friendly mixed clientele and good bar staff. comments about slightly worn decor (which add to the character of the pub) are irrelevant when all the best things about a pub are in place. We'll be returning there as soon as possible. Decent public transport links on the doorstep are a bonus too.

Actually the Railway is now very tired inside, fake beams on the walls with painted rough plaster in between - you know the theme. Wires everywhere in the music half, pool bit is really tired. Atmosphere seems good with decent clientele but they do get the odd rough ones in (full Adidas tracksuit in 2011? Get a grip!) They seem to be sticking with regulars Golden Pippin, Deuchars, Bombadier and Tiger Rut, plus a guest or two. You don't often get chance to make a direct comparison but we did tonight - I've thought before that the Tiger Rut's nice here, which it is, but it's twice as nice at the Rising Sun up the road in Mossley. The Old Pec was syrupy tasteless crap but then Old Pec is these days. Only real good thing is the live music on Fridays - bring your axe and have a go; it's a good atmosphere. If the continually-slamming front doors don't drive you mad. Otherwise, go somewhere else.

Very popular pub. Locals and a fair amount of customers who arrived by train pack the tap room and bar. Excellent well kept beer which obviously benefits from a quick turn over. Free live music regularly on in the bar. A proper pub.

Nice pub with scenic views of surrounding countryside. Ideal if you have just missed your train as the station is literally just across the road! Aswell as the real ale it boasts a large selection of real cider too!
|
Friendly pub with good beer 3 we had in there include Millstone - Tiger Rut, Elland - Beyond the Pale and Copper Dragon - Golden Pippin all in good knick...mind the pile of 2p's on the bar...think it was 2p's...

Unspoilt stone-built gem opposite Greenfield railway station, as noted a regular in the GBG. The interior retains distinct areas, all served from a centreal bar. The ale range is varied enough, unfortunately I don't recall what I had but it was more than one ale and all were in good form. What stands out however are the views over the valleys and moors of Saddleworth, which are nothing less than spectacular, particularly from the rear of the pub. Best enjoyed when combined with a trip to the Britannia opposite Mossley station and Stalybridge Station Buffet Bar or even the platform pubs at Huddersfield- this makes for an excellent rail ale trail.

Nice lively and homely atmosphere, good beer, decent live music and a 'creative' policy on last orders!

Great, friendly, lively pub opposite Greenfield railway station. Good range of very well kept real ales. Real cider also available. Supports live music and local bands perform regularly in the bar (free). They also have a venue room upstairs for more well known artists and these are usually reasonably priced. Major sporting events are shown on big screen in upstairs room (leaving pub itself for non-sports fans). Beer garden has fantastic views over Greenfield to Saddleworth Moor and BBQ's are common on summer weekends. Deservedly popular regular Good Beer Guide entry. Excellent pub.

Enjoyed both the real ales sampled at this pub while touring round by bus visiting real ale pubs in the area. Lovely pub too.
|
Good real ale, lovely beer garden with views right across Chew Valley. Quite a few well known singer songwriters perform at ticketed events in the function room and a first rate comedy night on the last Sun of the month
|
Fantastic feel; lively on a weeknight with good real ale turnover and a very good Millstone beer, good for walks.

This is the place to come for live music. Right on the train line too. Live bands on Thursday and Sunday afternoons plus open mike on Fridays. Always pretty busy on these nights less so on others. Plenty of real ale and efficient kooky bar staff.
