Visited this pub at lunch time with a party of 23 walkers. We had not made any pre-arrangements with the pub but the management and staff were extremely welcoming and coped very well with us all. Every one was delighted with the range of drinks available and the food was plentiful and of very good quality. We had to wait a little while for the food to be prepared but it was all freshly cooked and there was a lot of us. Would highly recommended this pub.

Under new ownership for slightly less than a year, the Swan remains a friendly, welcoming, unpretentious two-bar village pub.
A new policy promoting LocAle means that there are usually two ales on tap from the likes of XT, Vale, Tring or Malt the Brewer. Beer quality is usually very good. The other pump is currently Youngs.
Pleasant gardens and the front and back and well situated for walkers looking for refreshment on hikes around the Chilterns. Food is available and is beginning to feature some interesting specials (e.g. duck confit).
Occasional live music and themed events. A nice touch is an informal art gallery in the lounge, featuring work by local artists.

Second on tour home & getting to know area. I like this pub its very homely and what I expected of a country pub. Very much on the list to re-visit.

Nice scenic county pub with two bars doing Adnams Bitter and St Austell Tribute - the latter was a good pint. Worth an afternoon of anybodies time.

Also agree that the very negative comment below doesn't sound like this pub. There is a TV but it's not on very often and I don't think the landlord would subscribe to a music channel (no satellite here -- which is a good point for many).
The Swan does consistently good beer -- St. Austell Tribute and Adnams Bitter.
It is a good village pub that does good pub food, has a nice log fire and is well worth a visit.

That comment from evegeve can't be about this Swan. Much too lively! Staff appalling, though.

Are you sure you've got the right Swan? Doesn't sound like the same pub to me!

I had a very disappointing stay at the Swan last weekend. The room was filthy (carpets didn't look like they'd been cleaned for weeks, grimy shower and stained blankets).
The food and beer were passable, but a huge TV (turned up to full volume)blared from one corner of the bar all night (stuck on a music channel that pumped out the best 100 disco anthems and the same four or five adverts). When we asked the barperson if she'd turn it down a bit -- as the bar was almost empty -- she did, but then turned it up again after 5 mins.
Would not recommend that anyone stay here, and only pop in for a pint if you're desperate.

A delightful typical country pub serving excellent food in a happy atmosphere.
