This pub is something of a cider bar with all the loopy juice you can think of.
The interior is like an old school boozer with wooden seats everywhere.
We visited during the day and it was quiet not sure what a Saturday night would be like in here but by the sounds of it busy and rough.

7/10

If you like strong still cider, you've come to the right place. Old Rosie and Thatcher's Traditional as well as Rosie's Pig are available. Quiet during the day and most evenings but avoid Friday and Saturday night after 11 if you don't like pubs full of drunks looking to kick off.

Went to the pub last night to listen to a fantastic band. The only trouble was by 11pm everyone was coming in from other pubs and it was heaving to the door and could not then get a drink. Then a local pierced and tattooed mohican bloke came out of the toilets obviously drugged up and drunk was on the floor in a bit of a mess. Went in there today and the same pierced tattooed snd mohicaned bloke was in there and playing led zep at full blast. I love LZ but not at lunchtime when pensioners were waiting over an hour for food with no apology or reassurance. Later found out that te landlord was on holiday. Classic case of while the cats away the mice will play. Anyway had to leave and go next door to the half moon where we had speedy service and great food.

A little mixed. The drink was OK but the service was a disaster. Two possible scenarios: a) it takes 45 minutes to put together a bowl of soup-of-the-day and a sandwich (and, no, it wasn't at all busy on a Thursday lunchtime), or b) the food order was mistakenly delivered to two teenagers who ate it and scarpered before the mistake could be discovered. It took a reminder to the bar to get the food. No apology for the late delivery was given. Wife said that the loos were very poor: the ladies' loo seat was not properly attached and the alternative (disabled) loo had no seat at all, just bare porcelain. This could have potential, but I don't think I'll be back. 3/10

Called in just after lunchtime for a swift pint while Mrs Os was shopping. Of the four ale pumps, one wasn't being used, the Bishop's Tipple and Henry's IPA had just finished so I was left with a pint of 6X - which was spot-on. The normal friendly service in this 'proper' pub, nice and quiet for a read of the papers this afternoon but it will undoubtedly liven up tonight.

We popped in for a pint after strolling around the town and admiring the beautiful Abbey. The pub is directly in front of this inpressive building. The pub was good, clean and the service quick and helpful. We found a gem of a garden out the back. All in all a great pub which I would have no qualms in returing to.

On a lunchtime visit I found this pub to be friendly, quiet and homely. My pint of Henry was very well kept and served politely and with no fuss, although the barmaid was clearly not that experienced. The yoof at the bar who spoke to me was clearly wondering why a stranger would want to drink in his local, but he was friendly enough (I believe that in less enlightened times most villages in this part of the world had a specific appointment reserved for people with his qualifications and personal qualities).

All in all, a pelasant lunchtime experience in a proper, traditional town pub which I would happily repeat.

If you enjoy a decent pint in unpretentious surroundings, don't be put off by previous adverse comments - try this yourself.

Checked in again and since my last visit I have to say the place has gone down hill. The barmaid tapped us up for a charity draw as soon as we got in there, not nice. Unless you are under 30 and love fights, I would avoid this dump.

Good, honest pub with well-kept beers. Excellent (mostly rock) music most Fridays.

Food awful a few saturdays ago, served with little thanks for our custom by a girl covered in paint. No wonder the traditional pubs are dying out if this is the attitude of the staff.

Having not set foot in here for years I decided to brave it with a mate of mine. I had heard the rumours about youngsters and fights but I found none of it.

The pub hasnt changed much over time and the beer was pretty good. There were quite a few young lads in but they were all friendly and polite.

The only minus point was the stink from the curry house next door that kept wafting in via the beer garden.

Potentially one of the best pubs in Sherborne. Attractive unspoilt interior, lovely beer garden and in the actual centre of town. Unfortunately spoiled by the clientele who seem to be rejects from Weatherspoons. It needs an injection of cash, change of clientele without destroying its charm.
