This is a very long pub with an almost equally long bar, and is generally quite pleasant for eating purposes. In fact I have had many a good meal in this pub over the last few years, but now feel sad to report that these days it has a very poor bar service.

I last visited the pub on Sat 23/11/13, and the 2 barmen (one of whom turned out to be the pub manager) were just standing talking to each other at one end of the long bar, completely out of the view of customers who were cut off from the barstaff by a walled division over the bar, which created in effect 2 bars. On that basis the staff were unable to see customers entering the pub, and seemed totally unconcerned about those customers waiting to be served on the other side of the bar (adjacent to the entrance).

I myself waited 10 minutes to be served.
I then questioned the manager about the lack of service I received, but with no apology forthcoming, I walked out and will never return to that pub ever again.

Very dissatisfied customer.

I think this pub must have changed since the last review, I found the staff helpful and professional, the Guinness was fine and the food reasonable. The background music was at a reasonable level and the place - including the toilets - was very clean.
Overall a decent experience!

This pub is dirty plays loud music (at 6pm on a Tuesday) and the service is poor. I asked for a cranberry juice and was asked if I wanted ice. I replied no thank you but was given it 1/3 full of ice. When I pointed it out the (female) bar staff simply tipped it into another glass. So half a glass of cranberry juice (with no lime) cost me 1.70. I did say that I'd never seen that done before and the response was a giggle. Very poor and so when my friend arrived we went to the nearby Gyngles Bar instead - much nicer

A completely unremarkable pub which is unfortunately the closest one to Paddington Station and one most likely to catch the unweary waiting for their trains.

Long, yes - I believe it claims to be Londons longest pub, stinky - check, it surely does hum like a Victorian doss house, characterless - check, I see people but theres no sign of life captain.

I've walked in a few times, strolled the entire length, and then changed my mind and left. Such dull and lifeless pubs are typical of Paddington, and they vaguely give me the creeps.

I am a regular to this pub, it has a lovely atmosphere and all the staff are fantastic and always make you welcome. It's true the pub is in need of repair but i've been told by the manager that a refurbishment is happening in Januaray. They have a great selection of drinks and the food many only be pub gub but it's still great. The comment about one of the staff members being racist is absolutely untrue i have spoken to Luke on many occasions and he is a lovely bloke and i can say with 100% confindence that he is NOT racist, none of the staff at the pub are.

This is a real, real filthy dive -
- bar area OMG !, - toilets - do not approach, better to dump on the street !
Beer reminds you of "Watney's Red Barrel" ... lukewarm keg and handpumps not much better ... avoid so called wine at all cost !
"Longest / Deepest pub in London - maybe they're right ... best fish and chips in London ... WTF !"
Clientele are 99% tourist (no Londoner would touch this place with a bargepole) and it saddens me that this is the closest pub to Paddington station - guess its in character with the fleapit "so called" hotels on Sussex Square who have nerve to charge 100 per night ...
Guess "Dickens Tavern" says it all ... :-)

Very average pint of Pride in here. A very unappealing place.

Racist and abusive staff. Called me 'paki ' and ' pufta' just because i because i bought drinks for all my collegues at last day at work at paddington.. Person called , ;'Luke Hansen ' , said i am not welcome in this country. I feel this racist and rude pub needs to close down. PleASE ADVISE WHERE I CAN REPORT THIS BUSINESS TO BEING RACSIST and abusive to coloured people like myself. Feel free to contact me to get the this racist and white supremist business off the streets of london. I never experienced more humiliation in my life because of my skin color than at this pub. I know London is not racist , please help me report to the authorities.

As said a much bigger Pub than would appear , and with the possible exception of the Victoria , a fullers pub ,would probably be my had thachoice , slightly more interesting choice than most of the pubs around here this included Adnams Broadside . Proud of pubs , associated with morrissey ,and of course you've guessed it london pride . triv question for the night , what has the above said had that the smith's haven't had a number 1 uk single Bob the builder .
General conclusion a large no of pubs in this area , but not too many interesting Beers , not much for Ciders , after lp and bombardier , strongbow the most commonly seen .

A pub devoid of character, it feels like it used to be a shop. Howver the beer was in good nick, Hopback Taiphoon I think it was (with lemongrass).
Slow staff and a manager who seemed like she'd had a long day didn't add anything to the place. Would not make the effort to go here again but if passing it would be worth a quick pint.

Much bigger inside than it appears from the front, but that is perhaps its only distinguishing feature. I suppose that the staff were reasonably efficient given the place was fairly busy when I visited, but the guest ale (Everards Sunchaser) was very ordinary.

wow what a change- came here a few years ago- bit dodgy nothing exciting to report but this time the difference is amazing- the staff are so chatty and friendly, does some decent cask ales and has 4 tvs (i think) and a big screen to watch the footy- really good atmosphere. def worth a visit.

decent enough for the area around paddington station but that ain't saying much . Beer was OK. atomosphere OK during Weekday Premier League match. slightly better than the Sussex Arms further down on the other side pub food's better than the Greek Restauarant & the Steakhouse in London St, but better off at the kebab shop in spring street or the greek fish & chip shop in norfolk place.

Well having not looked at reviews before visiting london i walked into this clean and friendly traditional london pub. food was great value and looked propberly the best pub / food establishment in the area. lots of seating area and seemed to be quite full with a mixture of tourists and english people. i would make this my local if i lived closer and will 110 % be on my map for the next time i visit london !

One of many identikit tourist trap pubs in this area; this one bills itself as the longest pub in London, which may be true but does not make it any more worth visiting. When I was in the pub (which was about 4pm on a Sunday), the pub was dominated by a group of very loud, very drunk 20something men singing obscene songs and generally acting like giddy goats. I thought in the circumstances the barman should probably have asked them to leave.

Small frontage but long bar, claims to be the longest pub in London. Its split up well with a front part devoid of TVs and used for eating, the middle part is mainly a standing area and has one TV which is popular for sports. Then there is a conservatory type area further on with more TVs that can show different channels to the main one which is handy if there are two sporting events on at the same time. Three cask ales but only one of them was on when I visited, not very inspiring, a bit like the pub itself.

Millay - 12 Feb 2008 12:28
Swift pint in here after a trip to Plymouth. When we got in all the real ales were off, had to wait for Bombardier. Two or three others should have been on but only standard stuff. Nothing to recommend it.
GuideDogSaint - 20 Jan 2008 01:06
Definitely the worse pub in Paddington. Grubby, smelly and the bar staff were confused by English. It might be "the longest pub in London" as they claim but that alone is no excuse to subject yourself to it.
Esme - 28 Jun 2007 21:34
OK pub, but nothing too attractive about it. The Pride is consistently good, I can't complain about prices. The staff are capable and friendly.

Had a tough time getting served when in this pub last week.
anonymous - 1 Jun 2006 00:53
Went in here @ 11am as soon as they opened 2 get a swift beer b4 jumping on the train home.

Had a reasonable tasting pint of youngs at an average london price.

Friendly foreign girl served us.

Pub claims 2 be the longest in London, but could be argued i feel. One Bad thing was the smell. Was a strong pungent odour of rotten sick-stained carpet, not good!!

My Rating 6/10

Avoid this pub! We went yesterday and ordered food. 40 minutes later we were still sat waiting for our food, even though everyone that ordered after us had got theirs!! I went up to ask about it, and was told it wouldn't be long now. When it finaly turned up they had brought us the wrong food (Then argued saying that is what we ordered!!) I asked for a full refund and got it. I have never been to such a badly run dump in my life!!!

Visited daily in October for a week or so. Very friendly staff; excellent food; charming atmosphere. The front window seats gave one a view of the Paddington residents and their activities. Would highly recommend.

Good pub with good beer and food. Reportedly the longest pub in London, but I'd doubt that these days. Strange thing I found was that some of the Eastern European bar staff seemed quite miffed at not getting a tip. Not at those prices my lovelies!!!!
Ollie Reed - 30 Aug 2004 16:26
not bad for a pint or 2...spent a lot of time here( & the place over the road) when we first arrived in london & were staying in a shitty hotel round the corner. good as said for football.
millym - 4 Apr 2004 16:58
A footy place, but that's all.

Visted in spring 2003, the bangers and mash were excellent.

Visited this pub in 2003 when I was in London. I met people from all over Europe there.
Very friendly

l used to drink in this establishment when l lived in paddington in 1976. lt was always packed with young drinkers and at that time it was adjacent to the western counties pub,but i think that must be gone now?

Claims to be "London's Longest Pub" for what it's worth. Not a dreadful place by any means, but there are a whole cluster of pubs around Paddington Station and most of them are better than this one.
