Really nice pub. The Chicken casserole and Cottage pie were amazing value. Beer good too.

My wife and myself have used this pub on a regular basis in recent months. The food is good and has a friendly atmosphere. The bar is often full of local characters and the barstaff are hilarious! All I can say to "cockles" is lighten up and get a life!!!!

Great food. Lovely staff and nice atmosphere. Favourite table by the brilliant open fire. Very romantic!

A friendly pub atmosphere in a lovely area of Battle. Beautiful building, very friendly staff and a great place to spend an evening or weekend relaxing with a drink or two.

went into this pub on sat evening, couldn't believe the state of it-was like someones untidy front room, with the hoover stuck in the middle and dog food over the carpet. the landlady was rude and obnoxious.
we are fairly laid back but after seeing how this woman treated a young customer we will NEVER return

This was a good pub when the Browns run it some years ago.Sadly it is now a tip.Sorry but nothing good to say.

Ancient pub, but rather messed about inside. Very busy for an early Saturday night mainly with people coming to eat. Food looked OK, but I just stuck to the beer. Fine pint of Harveys.

Packed on a Wednesday lunchtime. Food and drinks a bit pricey and the landlord seems as miserable as sin. However the young lady behind the bar was very friendly, chatty and welcoming. For that reason alone I will certainly go back.

Decent pub this. Good beer, jukebox. Food home cooked (it really is - doesn't look like it's seen a microwave or freezer) and pretty good. Took a little too long to arrive, but was worth the wait.

Pop in for a drink, but at these prices only one...mediocre food took 45 minutes to arrive and order was wrong...starters arrived after mains...atmosphere ok...

Billed on BITE as Battles premier pub, I found the place somewhat mediocre. Five hand pumps but only two beers didnt impress me at all.
We struck up a conversation with the barman about the smoking ban in pubs, but at no point did he cotton on that the entire place was being gassed by the fumes from his dying open fire. Mind you, the same chap maintained the recent rise in beer prices was due to the brewery hed never heard of the budget or the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Beer's not too bad, however, I wasn't impressed with the pub's prices for Harveys on bonfire night. It looked like they'd been hiked up special.

Furthest pub in Battle away from the Abbey, yet the nicest and most authentic. A proper old fashioned lath and plaster and exposed beam pub which, despite some opening up, still retains a distinct awareness of the multi rooms with different flooring and partial walls still standing. Casks are Courage Best, Hen and Harvey's Best served in excellent condition. Large fireplace in front room with red and black floor tiles. Great. This is a real pub.

Lovely little pub with good food, we made this our "local" while staying in Battle for six weeks, highly recommended.

Went to the quiz night there a couple of times last summer. Good atmosphere and fairly good beer. Didn't eat though and in fact don't even remember seeing a menu... mainly because it's got a peculiar layout. Sometimes it could be classified as character but not in this case. More an annoyance when you need a wee but are unsure in which direction to run.

Good welcome and nice lunch food, definitely the hidden one to find when visiting Battle, double thumbs up.

We had a good lunch in here. the food was homemadewith a good choice and tasty with good portions.
The sussex bitter is well kept and the two girls behind the bar were very friendly.
Bearing in mind this is a tourist area this pub is not a rip off and looks like an old pub should.

Not a place to visit if you are in a bit of a hurry and want to eat, if this pub was a person it would be best described as "so laid back he's horizontal" but it is clean, welcoming and a calm little rest spot just off the main High Street, beer is OK staff are OK, in fact the whole pub is just OK.
