We went back for another meal on the 24th April but to be honest it seems that the quality of the meals and the service is not as good as it was. Again only one member of staff dealing with the meals and she seemed more interested in what the bar staff had been doing during the day chatting instead of serving customers. Nobody dealt with the fact that we wanted to pay our bill at the end of the meal perhaps IF there is a next time we should walk out. The free meal voucher scheme is a con as you can only get a couple of very basic meals for under £13. (Read the reverse of the voucher). We won't be going back for sometime.

Had a meal here on Thursday 21st March 2013. Arrived at 1830 and taken to our table by the only member of staff on duty for the dining area. Service for the meal was good and the quality of the meals superb as was the Harveys best bitter. After three courses we sat for several minutes waiting to be asked about coffee etc in the end we had to ask the member of staff for the bill without being asked if we wanted coffee. Great shame but it was due to the member of staff having too many customers to deal with. Well worth a visit just for the quality of the meals.

Good food at lunchtime outside in the sun. Also has a non smoking outside terrace.

Obnoxious locals hold sway over any interlopers: "You're standing in the way of the (widescreen) telly" boomed out from miles away at the other end of the bar. Has a privately-owned bar billiards table......find a better pub for it, Ros !

I last visited the Eight Bells about 5 years ago, but seeing it get a mention in the Sussex Drinker, I thought I'd pop in for a mid-week pint. The ales on offer were Harveys Sussex, GK Abbot Ale and 'Bolney Best' (aka GK Morland Original) which I plumped for. Apparently the delicious Dark Star beers also put in an appearance here from time to time.
A good section of the interior is still 'pub' wich is always nice to see, and diners have plenty of space in a dedicated dining area that sports a very ornate 'scooter' on the sideboard! There is also a large garden/deck area that's the perfect sun trap for lazy afternoons. I didn't try the food, but it certainly looked hearty. Service was friendly and there was some cheerful banter from the locals. I hear they may have their first beer festival this year so should be worth a future visit or two.

Visited The Eight Bells today for Sunday lunch for a family birthday. Food was great, very reasonbly priced, service excellent. Definately a place for a return visit in the future

I only visited the Public Bar for a pint, but it seemed a very friendly village pub, certainly walker friendly, and the beer was good (Dark Star Hophead, but also had Balcombe's Best and Harveys). Has a restaurant and I will be back to try it.

I've been here a couple of times over the past 12 months and its food quality just gets better and better. Their Sunday roast lunch is incredible. You won't need dinner! And the Bolney Best and Harveys are most enjoyable. Thoroughly recommended.

Cracker! Has a restaurant (with excellent food) but still retains the English country pub atmosphere so rare these days. If you're heading to or from Brighton from London - or heading East West on the A272, make it your stopover for a good lunch. If you're staying anywhere near Bolney (or are happy to fork for a cab)then head down for a great night out amongst friends. First Sunday of every month has the 'Posh' Bob Quiz night. Every other Sunday offers free pool and all beer at 2.50 per night. What more could you want?

A change of landlord and the pub is on the up. Beer quality has improved although the beer range isn't always that exiting. Harveys + "Bolney Bitter" which is made for them by Greene King. There have been occasional sitings of Dark Star beers from up the road and these need to be more frequent. Food quality has got better and the whole atmosphere about the place is warm and welcoming. Much better!

Nice pub interior (restaurant decor is strange) and located in a nice quiet sussex village.
The beer quality is indifferent though. Last weekend Everards Beacon wasn't very good, either due to a cold cellar or an unclean beer line. No Harveys available, but the Abbot ale was very good.
Inside the pub is nice but what makes it unappealing is the loud music that is sometimes pumped out and the television being left on showing nondescript freeview channels. It should have the atmosphere of a quintesential English village in, but a lot of the time it comes accross as an indifferent town pub.
The food is very good and one thinks the landlords would be better off running a restaurant than a pub. The lease is up for taking over so maybe that's what they'll do...
