Popped in today whilst on a walk around the area. Although kitchen had officially closed they were happy to provide food and this was good. Beer choice ok (Pride, Brakespears and Doom Bar). Nice location and comfortable welcoming pub

Used this pub a week ago whilst on a walk with my local walking group. The beer was OK but well over priced. Did not personally sample the food but friends that did said that is was well cooked. Apart from our walking group, the place was very quiet for a summer Saturday lunch time.

Hell! I've not experienced such crap service in years. the barmaid just about acknowledged our party of 5 but didnt deign to serve us,after an interminable wait we were just about to walk out when another barmaid managed to tell us that the kitchen was closed but if we wanted a drink we had half hour before the pub closed. Needless to say we headed for the door and spent our 50 quid at a more welcoming hostelry

Irish landlord, very jokey 'til he decided he'd done enough customer entertainment and turned it off. Party of about 15 OAP's arrived. Food was very good - cooked on premises. Beers: Brakspears Best Bitter & Three Drop, Adnams Southwold, Sharps Doom Bar.

Knowing the reports of this pub I was disappointed when our group, (of 22 persons,) was going to use this for a mid-week lunch. However, there were no complaints, food was excellent, piping hot and service was OK. Only problem as we ordered our meals a wooden spoon was issued with a number painted on it. The kitchen seemed to ignore this system and staff came out shouting, 'Roast beef' or whatever. Course us old fogies had long forgotten what we had ordered.

went back in recently and nothing has changed, very rude landlord with a serious attitude problem, would not recommend this pub to anyone, and the food was nothing to shout about, give this one a wide berth :(
|
The bit about a warm welcome in the pub's web site blurb is untrue. The rudest landlord I have ever come across. Here is a sample of the conversation tonight:-
First of all I wait in a queue for about ten minutes while he takes the orders of the people in front of me.
We then have a chat about the fact he wants me to leave my credit card with him while we eat. I say I want to pay cash.He says OK and then without any warning just walks off to deal with another member of staff.
After some minutes he comes back and I ask him whether I can order some food. He starts being sarcastic and asks whether I am in a hurry to get to a funeral and to hold on for a minute. I pointed out I had already been holding on for ten minutes and gave him my food order. As I walk away he tells me I had just that moment turned up at the food order point and that the customer isnt always right.
I will never ever go to this pub again, and I shall never recommend it. if my friend hadnt been in such a hurry I would have walked out at that point.

You what, MagicMoments? This is the Seven Stars site, not the Sadler's Arms!
|
The Sadlers Arms must have served the worst pint of beer I have tasted for years and the staff were far from happy when I complained. Eventually they changed it giving me a different brand(fullers) which was just as bad. we gave up did not finish our drink and left. Appalling.

Sunday lunch at 9.50 in a very attractive pub in the Surrey countryside and you expect something pretty good. Roast beef of mediocre quality and roast potatoes could have been used as offensive weapons. Complained to chef who said portions were "pub policy" and would not add any more roast beef to my plate. Less than friendly atmosphere in the pub; staff surly and clearly did not want to be there; took a filthy glass back to the bar which had a large crack in it for exchange. My wife's bottled diet coke was replaced with a fountain equivalent - oldest trick in the book and summed up the visit. Had this been a restaurant I would not have paid. Our waiter (Polish guy) was great, personally, I would put him in charge of the lot. If you want a Sunday lunch in Ripley try elsewhere; this is a real pity though as the gardens and garden furniture are superb and the pub itself is charming.

BRILLANT PUB, PAUL AND SHEILA MADE US SO WELCOME, FOOD IS EXCELLENT WELL WORTH A VISIT , WILL BE BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN
|
Visited yesterday lunchtime, and the place was open even though New Year's Day, which was a plus. The first thing the landlord said was that the pub would be closing soon "as we keep traditional hours here" which wasn't so welcoming! He told us on at least one other time that he'd be closing soon. Food took a 30 mins to come, which was a shame, as it was only 2 jacket potatos and a bowl of soup. However when it came it was very good and very large portions. Athmosphere dated and scruffy, though, so we won't go again. Spitfire good.

Have been here four times over the past year. Last visit on 12th September (despite Paul insisting it was 13th - assured me that the Irish were always one day out!!) I can only endorse the positive comments made previously. Spotlessly clean, good range of beers and great food. They don't "do" fast food so you may have to wait some time but it is worth it. I find Paul good company, always ready for a chat if they are not too busy. Pity the pub is out of the way otherwise I am sure it would attract more punters. Try it. A worthwhile journey for you.

Had lunch today , all meals great , . reasonable prices. a few seem to be priced a bit high , Kids loved it ,paul is funny, will go again and again .
|
Must have picked a bad evening. Husband and I ate here last night, food not good at all.
|
nice pub shame about the landlord.
|
Great home cooked food - local produce, all cooked to order - no microwaves here ! the Chef is excellent! All very reasonably priced - even the Weekly specials! Brilliant setting - Garden has been furnished really well. Definately recommend the Liver and bacon !!!
|
Nice pub- well looked after except for the lampshades! Good food if you are not in a hurry. Good beer. Nice garden and smoking area. Landlords a charector can be rude if taken the wrong way - funny if not
|
When we first moved to the village we used this pub regularly because the food and beer were good. Unfortunately, over the weeks, the landlord became just too rude and obnoxious, so we have reluctantly settled elsewhere pub-wise.
|
Used the pub for the first time a few weeks back and found it a tad quiet, but it was mid week and early in the evening.Took 2 of the kids (12 and 16)there yesterday for Sunday lunch and the grub was excellent.Good quality, lots of it and very reasonably priced. Will definitely use it again.
