This pub is still standing, but is still disused. You can certainly still tell it was a pub. Hopefully it will be again one day.

Another one bites the dust... planning permission being sought to demolish the Countryman and build "THREE PAIRS OF SEMI DETACHED HOUSING WITH PARKING". Isle of Wight Council website / ref P/00352/11 - TCP/27769/B. Regretting I never got the chance to visit this pub (ignoring the beer watering issue which is down to the licensee) now looks like I never will. RESIDENTS OF BRIGHSTONE RISE UP ! YOU ARE ABOUT TO LOSE ONE OF YOUR TWO PUBS BECAUSE OF A GREEDY PROPERTY DEVELOPER !

The Pub has shut due to bad publicity because of the beer watering and spirit swapping court case. You can still use the car park to enjoy the view!

Great pub, great service, great laugh, shame about other comments, everyone makes mistakes, he has been punished and pub deserves a chance, the last 5 times i have been in there i have had superb homecooked food, what i call real food, although i have been on my own i have been made very welcome, landlord and lady and staff are lovley, freindly and real, just wish more people would discover this place!

This is the third time my family and I have been to the Isle of Wight and The Countryman is always a must. The food is fresh and homemade and the service excellent. The landlady and landlord are lovely people and always gave us a big welcome, as if we had known them for years. We would recommend The Countryman every time.

Excellent pub I must say. Warm, welcoming, view stunning. Service 10 out of 10. Loverly girl worked there who was very attentive, as were all staff, happy and smiling. NO complaints. Very good atmosphere, quite a few people eating there. I would rather go here than 3 bishops, as for police cars there was one in the 3 bishops car park...? So not sure what coolbadger is on about? Landlord perhaps?

Owner just been fined by the magistrates for filling spirit bottles with cheaper alternatives. Watered down beer. Disgraceful! Nice though to drive past and see the police cars waiting either side, looking for drink-drivers. Carry on past to the Three Bishops!

Not a welcoming pub at all. Unfriendly staff where service is seldom with a smile. We went one lunchtime and the only people using the restaurant were and old couple with two bowls of soup. They left shortly afterwards. We then visited the Three Bishops and the place was buzzing. The best thing about the countryman is the view as you leave. Although the log fire was very nice. Shame they kept the doors wide open to create a freezing through draught. Best avoided. I give the pub 3 out of 10 for the view.

Food and drink good quality, and welcoming atmosphere and staff. Up against three other pubs on the same stretch of road, incluing Three Bishops and Hulverstone Sun which we have found to be a little bit cheaper.

Great food and a wonderfully warm atmosphere. This is the kind of place where you stop in for a drink and stay for the evening. I can't recommend the Countryman enough!
