Friendly - though rather scruffy looking - local pub serving two Brakspears ales and a few others. Bit of an uphill climb to reach it though!

Pub situated just up the hill on the outskirts of Caversham. It has a slightly rough around the edges feel. The inside is well decorated. But the rear garden could certainly do with a bit of love! There are a couple of patio areas at the front and rear too. Ales were Ringwood Boon Doggle & Forty Niner & Brakspear Bitter. Ok, but there are better choices in Caversham.

The Problem with the BACK OF BEYOND is that it just ain't THE PRINCE OF WALES. An evening spent in the BOB could be better spent watching interference on the TV. If the landlord, is considered dashing then so is the backside of the number 9 bus. This is Gods Waiting Room! Surrounded by wheel chairs, walking sticks and incontinence, or is it that just the smell of the river? Are you listening Lord J?

I wholeheartedly agree with the previous comment and felt I had to write this, especially after reading Mr F's Post. I am new to the area of Reading and therefore do not know the history of this pub, if any? I have visited this pub now many times and have found the people incredibly friendly and bar staff more than welcoming. The refurbishment the pub has undergone makes the pub look modern, fresh and exciting. The food I have eaten here has been great and would recommend to anyone to eat here. The entertainment on the weekend has been what I most enjoy. On a Friday is Karaoke and Saturday a Live band, although karaoke is not really my cup of tea it seems to appeal to many others. Not at any time I have seen any trouble in this pub or have even heard of any. I Implore Mr F to please explain his post as everything that has been written appears to be completely misguided and horribly unfounded. Have you the right Pub Mr F or are you just a jealous competitor? Myself and the good people of Caversham look forward to your response post and hopefully with your explanations, especially the reason for a metal detector???

Unsure about the two previous comments, but the POW has just reopened after quite a substantial refurb, clean and comfortable and if "theme nights" in the way of a burger deal, DJ, Live Music,Sky or Sunday Roast is from a Nick Love movie then I haven't seen it. No it isn't by the river but it the locals are friendly and as far as I have heard there hasn't been any negative comments about the new look POW, I hope it really works as the staff are attentive and the food is traditional pub fayre and a decent price, well done

Mediocre furnishings, painting-by-numbers staff and unfortunately the chav hordes of Caversham have decided to make this their local of choice. Luckily it does not advertise itself as a family pub and I can clearly see why; I'm surprised they haven't got metal detectors on the door.

Nice spacious pub, with a beer garden front and back. Good Brakspears beer and thai food. Can get very noisy, so not my choice on a Friday or Saturday night. Has a big rugby contingent during the Six Nations/World Cup.

A proper pub and a good cross-section of punters. Young, old, male, female and even a great fat, sweaty, Reading fan who looked like Penfold. There was even a man wearing wellies. Beer was good. You know it's a quality pub when an older chap feels comfortable taking his dogs in.

Just moved to Caversham and really wanted to see Wales play England on Saturday. We were directed here by staff at Wetherspoons, and I'm really glad we were.

We were there with our 2 young kids, and were made to feel very welcome, with games and drawing stuff brought out by the staff/owners to keep the kids entertained during the match. The garden is also great for kids to play while you eat some of the best Thai food I've had since actually being there a few years ago.

Being Welsh, I was unable to keep quiet during the match, and the locals (all decked out in shaved heads and England tops) took it well. Not sure I'm ready to go there wearing my Wales top yet, but I'll work on it.

I'll rate this place highly as it's got everything I need, whilst still being a real pub, with real people in it, if you know what I mean.

Good to see this pub back on form even though I don't like the loud music (I don't go when its on). But with Brakspears and Ringwood beers available it should draw the crowds back. I think there are connections with The Rising Sun and Fishermans Cottage in Reading.

Forgot to mention, the bands agreat there every Saturday and no Gallaghers to be seen anywhere, attitude or not........

Great friendly pub. Nick and Mick have turned this place into a fantastic place to hang out, watch a game and have some of their fantastic Thai menu. All the regulars are friendly and the warm welcome cannot be beaten.
Great Brakspear Ales from a very well kept cellar....

Thoroughly recommended.

A mixed bag, this one. Excellent, well-kept Brakspear's ales with a decent guest usually on as well, unusual layout with entrance door only two steps from bar which then extends around to the right. Two open lounge areas off to left with some excellent original old oak panelling. HUGE, but friendly pub dog, popularly known as the world's biggest puppy. Friendly enough atmosphere here when we visited as there was a very loud 21st birthday karoake party going on, but I do know where the comment below about the regular clientele comes from. We've never had a problem in here, but I can see how some would feel.

Ths is a fine local pub. The staff are friendly and there is a lovely 'roof top' beer garden!

Nice pint of Brakspear Blonde was had here,7/10

Nice enough pub with good beer, but frequented by the Caversham Liam Gallagher Wannabe Club, with feathercuts and attitude to match.

If you enjoy drinking whilst being stared at by a bunch of overly-aggressive midgets with delusions of greatness then this is the place for you.

Shame about the regular clientele making the passing punter feel unwelcome, because its an otherise cracking boozer.

Proper neihbourhood pub. Not too cliquey, not too posh, not too basic. Proper beers (Brakespears), friendly landlord and occassional live music, and I've seen some good stuff here.
