Vine, Great Bardfieldback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
This ex Ridleys (now Greene King) house was once easily the busiest pub in Bardfield but the roles are now reversed with the Bell proving far more popular. The front bar, now back to being the saloon after a period when it changed to being the public bar, does not seem to attract much custom at all. The rear room, back to its proper role of public bar, fares a little better. Much space is given over to the pool table, but there is still ample seating. There are some interesting old photos on the wall, apparently retrieved from the cellar. GK IPA was acceptable and Old Speckled Hen perfectly fine on my visits. It's hard to see what the Vine is doing wrong, but being so quiet it does lack a bit of atmosphere. Perhaps a basic good value menu served into the evenings and some interesting guest real ales would help.

Extremely overpriced food. They charged me 8.10 for a beef baguette. I doubt that The Ritz would even ask for that much. I'm afraid I won't be going there again and I would advise anyone to query the price of their food as I believe they totally ripped me off.

Popped in 'The Vine' for lunch a short while ago. 1.00pm during the week and the pub was empty! Strange. But the steak was good (which they get from the excellent butcher a few yards away!) Picturesque little village! You should see it. I must stop by the Vine again one day. (Bring your own crowd tho')! TJ

OH MY GOD!!! I cannot belive that there is a negative, rude comment about this pub!?!? Are you blind! This is the best pub in the area in my opinion (we visited a few on our trip), the new management team are outstanding, top quality food, friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome. I will definatley be going again, even though i don't live there. I congratulate the new staff... well done.

Nice village pub with non-smoking restaurant room at the back. Has a garden for soaking up the rays in the summer. A Ridleys pub I believe. One downside is the lack of real cider! Does nice pub food, with decent sized portions!
