The St George & Dragon has a good location overlooking a curve in the River Thames. The patio and the riverbank areas both have tables to sit back, relax and take in the views, watch the boats and spot the birdlife. The interior is more restaurant than pub. Doom Bar & Pride are the only ales. There was a strong smell of fish during our late morning visit. Good location. But the pub could be better.

The place looks good and is in a fantastic location, but is let down by disorganised service and average food given the prices. Visited at 6pm on a Sunday evening for food when it wasn’t particularly busy, but the staff seemed to lack any system for dealing with customers. Waited for twenty minutes for a table (they needed to clear a few plates and re-set it) and had to ask for menus. The man who took our order did so without a notepad – a neat trick, but ruined when you have to come back to confirm the order five minutes later (good thing too, as he’d got it wrong). Food was ok, but would have expected vegetables, especially with the child portions. The bill was incorrect as well. On the plus side the staff were friendly and I’m sure a “drinks only” experience in the evening sunshine by the Thames would have been fine – they definitely need better processes for food customers.

I visited with a friend on Tue 24 Apr 12. It was a quiet lunchtime in between heavy showers. I guess there were 30 customers at most.
Our two simple dishes, fish pie and fish cake, took 50 minutes to emerge from the kitchen which is astonishing for an M&B branded regenerated menu operation. The portions were mean albeit edible.
Very poor value. Don't go unless it's sunny and you want to be by the river for a drink.

Doesn't really count as a pub. It looks as if it should be stand-alone but the feel inside is of a chain. Staff are on the officious side of efficient. Not unpleasant but no charm.

I visit this pub at regular intervals usually as part of a walk. Other reviewers seem to have been unlucky. This is really a restaurant but whenever I turn up for drinks only the reception has always been friendly. With so much of the Thames being off limits to places of refreshment the location of the St George is excellent - sit on the terrace or the Thames river bank for great views and duck feeding.
On the food side, choose carefully and the food can be fine and not too heavy in nature either.

If you like very poor service from staff who would rather be anywhere else then this is the pub for you. I could not advise avoiding this place too strongly

Great location, Food mediocre. Waited an hour for the first course to arrive, then after another 40 minutes for the ordered dessert which never arrived. I gave up and left without the slightest of apologies. Service is shocking, particularly as the place was only one third full and staff appeared to be plenty.
Would not recommend this establishment to businesses or families.

I visited this pub today with a business client on the recommendation of a magazine. I thought it rather overated and probably relying on its Thameside location. However, the beer that I had was well served and tasted fine. The food was okay too, though we only had a snack and it was served quickly and well presented.Prefer the Woolpack at Stoke Mandeville which is in the same group/company.

Beautiful pint of tt-landlord and a superb riverside location. 8/10 one downfall and thats the rather nasty "boaty people" that it attracts.......

Awful beer, poor service, surly staff.
Politley asked for the sparkler from my ale to be removed and got told by the barman "it's only a beer!" Told him that it was "my beer" which I was paying for thank-you-very-much!
Clearly the notion that `the customer is always right' doesn't apply here. Oh, and what eventually got dispensed (Loddon Bamboozle) was the dregs of the barrel and near undrinkable.
As noted before, staff employed for aesthetics rather than ability.
Junk the riverside location and go somewhere else, this is worthless.

Lots of staff but either clearing up or taking (food) orders so the service was rather slow. Somewhat upmarket and I found the long line of tall silver fonts rather annoying. One of the two ales was Loddon so top marks to them - if both the beers were 'nationals' I wouldn't bother with this pub despite the views of the Thames.

Great views over the Thames, the food was good but pricey, some of the staff clearly do not like their job! Service at the bar was slow. Real ale was kept fairly well, nice to see that they source from the Local Loddon brewery.

Food is of very poor quality. staff friendly. Lovely views. Expensive

Nice location and interior, pricy food and generally poor service.

Bar and seating very reminiscent of a modern hotel bar, all sofas and wrap-around bucket chairs, a style that was enforced by the barely audible muzak and the staff member who asked if I needed any help before I had even reached the barman to order my beer! Landlord and Loddon Hullabaloo, the latter was suspect in clarity but not quite rejectable and tasted ok; I think served correctly that would be a very nice beer. Pride of place along the bar was given to a line of 8 tall eurofizz pumps, although they did include Leffe & Staropramen if you are that way inclined. Not my type of place at all but the dining area and outdoor tables do enjoy a tranquil view of the adjacent river and fields beyond. Overall impression? Im not pretentious, get me out of here!

Great location and reasonable food. But sadly let down by staff who have either been badly trained or employed for aesthetics not abilities.
|
Food is good. Stone baked pizzas. Serves Timothy Taylors Landlord a complete rarity in rural Berkshire. Shame the barman cannot pull a decent pint.

Nice pub. Friendly staff. I didn't dine while there but the beer was excellent and the service prompt and friendly. I liked the decking and the views of the river. The one letdown were the group of giggling women on a table close by who seemed to enjoy pulling faces at me and my disabled companion, which facilitated in us leaving prematurely. I can't fault the pub in any way though and I would heartily recommend it.
