Friendly service and a very decent pint of S A Tribute, sadly empty on the Wed evening that I visited. 7/10

A friendly traditional pub towards the outskirts of Nailsea, but nonetheless a relatively short stroll from the central area. It has been shut for a few weeks after the previous landlord left, allegedly due to unsustainable rent increases, but it has now re-opened with someone new running it.
The majority of the pub is one good sized room with a wooden partition running down the middle. There is also a small snug off to the left. It�s got a traditional pub feel to the place, with carpeted flooring, wood cladding on the lower part of the walls and some exposed stonework elsewhere. Blue bench seating is around the perimeter, with conventional tables and chairs elsewhere. There was a small TV in the corner near the bar that was showing the motor racing, and this is a popular spot for the locals to stand and chat.
There is a beer garden at the back with a patio area, covered smoking house and a decent looking kid�s play area with wooden climbing frames, a slider and a rope slide. There is also a piquant pitch at the back, and the pub has in the past fielded a couple of teams, although whether they are still running I�m not sure. Food is offered lunch times as well as Friday and Saturday evenings. There was a popular carvery being served on a recent Sunday lunch time visit, and the friendly landlord said he was planning a curry night in a couple of weeks.
Beers on tap were Doom Bar, Gem and Butcombe. Ciders were Addlestones, Gaymers Original and Stowford Press. All in all one of the better pubs in Nailsea, and well worth a visit. I wish the new landlord luck and hope he makes a success of it.

A decent pub in a failry central location. There's a patio and covered smoking area out the back together with a play area for kids consisting of climbing frames, sliders, etc.
A decent choice of proper beer, plus Stowford Press cider. Good choice of food with a large specials board, although unfortunately only served on a Friday & Saturday evening and all day Sunday (when they also do a carvery).
Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Several community activies such as fund raising cycles and the pub is home to two piquante (may have spelt that wrong, a type of french boulles) teams.
All in all a great pub.

Update, there's a new chef and some changes to the decor.
Early days, but the reports so far are good.
On the beer front, Bass and Best are always on (although Best is suffering from the changes at the brewery). Guest ales change regularly and include Deuchars, Hooky Best, Doom Bar and Adnams. Ciders are Stowford and Adlestones.
Canopy out the back means that smokers are well catered for as well!

Update... Called in recently prior to watching Nailsea 1st team hammer Shirehampton at Cricket. Although the pub is looking the tired could not fault the food or ale.

Ditto Big Pete's words but add that they have a nice beer garden with toys for kids and not far up the road is the superb Blue Flame.

Good selection of real ales that changes regularly, and usually extremely well kept. Food menu, if limited, is well presented and filling. Can be a little cliquey with the local football team, and decor looks a bit tired, but one of Nailsea's better pubs.
