Miners Rest, Long Ashtonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Disapointment ,even more so having read the rave reviews , Beer choice really disapointing , only LP , Bass , and Butcombe , the latter of which wasn't that great , food was good , and staff friendly , did walk up the hill , but not sure if I would again based on beer performance , crying out for a good guest beer . Plenty of pints west hanging about so maybe beer choice reflects mentality of clientele , perhaps should concentrate on what members need not what they want 5/10

I can only really echo what others have said - a proper olde worlde pub with bags of character and some great beers. There's a small seating area out the front which is a fantastic spot on a summer's evening with some glimpses of fantastic views between the trees. Good choice of ciders on tap - Blackthorn, Black Rat, Taunton Traditional and Ashton Press.

Paid a return visit to the Miner's Rest and was a bit disappointed. Let me set out the positive things first. To me, the main plus about this pub is its character. It is a true original and must be visited at least once. From the dart board, the beat-up piano in the corner, to the miners' lanterns on the walls, this place feels like a walk a few steps back in time. Magic. The second plus is the drink. They serve some excellent brews. Third, the staff are great people -- friendly. On the negative side, current construction work next door wrecks the atmosphere a bit. There used to be a great place to sit outdoors in their apple orchard, but that's all been fenced off with wire so the amazing views are gone. Shame about that, but it won't make much difference once winter sets in. Finally, if you are not familiar to the old codgers who spend a lot of time in this pub, be prepared for a bit of taunting or a cold shoulder from them if you are foreign or not white. I have received jeers and comments every time I've visited this pub. It can feel a little less than comfortable, so be warned and arm yourself with a sense of humour and a passion for experiencing life in all its weird and wonderful manifestations. Remember, it's still worth a visit. Either the old codgers will get used to me, I'll develop a thick skin, or I'll just end up going somewhere else.

a traditonal olde worlde pub quaint and welcoming i really liked my butcombe and liked the stillage of ales on the side.tried the ploughmans a large plateful.as were the other meals in our group.. easily a couple of pounds cheaper than the norm, although they looked abit amateurish they were tasty and plentiful i would say a little too large.but that's no bad thing,,all in all a good place to go as the other writers comments state and would agree.

Up a steep hill but well well worth the heart attack. Not as welcoming as the Bird in Hand but by no means unfriendly. One of those pubs that too much TLC would spoil. It is an understatement to say the Butcombe was stupendous. Pride and Bass were also on,though on stillage so I'm glad I hit the jackpot on the Butcombe. Get on the bus and experience. Well done.

Wow, another BITE punter who actually drinks at the Miners! :-)
It is truly a great place to drink, eat and unwind and if you ever bump into one of the regulars ....let's say Sid (THE poet, well Sid thinks so! :-) ) for instance (LOL) - You will truly never, ever forget the Miners and always have fond memories of it. My only regret is that I live so far away (15 miles). I used to work around this way and would always visit the pub on the lunchtime ad I really, really miss that more than I can ever say. In fact I got so much joy from those lunchtime visits and the chats to the locals that I feel teary eyed just thinking back about those times.

Easily the finest pub for many miles around. Stop here to refresh yourself and tank up whilst on a bike ride or Sunday drive between Bristol and the surrounding countryside. Great food, friendly staff. Tantalising selection of brews and ciders. Kick your shoes off and sit at a picnic table under blossoming apple boughs with a pint and a ploughman's, take a deep breath, survey the green and glorious rolling hills and dales and ... enjoy!!!

Still the same great pub & great atmosphere - still the same well kept beers + Thatchers & Taunton Trad. Does nobody else visit the Miners? Best pub in the area by a country mile!

Good news DickStilton, the Bass is now back! Well it was on my recent visit anyway. As good as ever, don't think the menu has seen a price increase for a few years now which is great, best value range of ploughmans in the area by a mile. Not been in for ages, Geoff & Carol still licensees and everything remains the same as it ever was - superb.

Having not been here for years I had the chance to drop by last night and was sad to see the Bass has now gone. They serve ale the correct way here, direct from the barrel. However, they have replaced the Bass with one of the best pints of London Pride I have ever tasted! and I'v tasted a few in my time... it was sublime. The pub has'nt changed and thats a good thing, still unspoiled with a very nice 'local' feel. Great bar service and amusing locals. Highly recommended if you fancy a short trip out of Bristol.

Utterly unpretentious hillside pub with great views and tiptop cider. If you come by bike you'll have earned your pint!

A great little haven and a reminder of what a good pub should be like. Great food & beer always in superb condition, great outside areas where you can look across to Dundry and chill out on a warm day. A few pints of Thatchers and you are in heaven!
