On the way back into town I ticked Indigo Alley and to be honest it's not quite what I expected.
6 pumps that were dispensing 4 ales and 1 real cider , the other pump was spare. I opted for a pint of Rudgates York Chocolate Stout @ 5.0% which was excellent and well poured.
Having never visited here before I have no idea what it was like before but its been stripped-down inside and really has lost a lot of it's charm.
Pretty empty expect for us and one other punter, the landlord is friendly enough but its pretty soulless.
The beers great but the lack of features and punters let Indigo Alley down in my opinon.

Last pub on a brief pub crawl so memory is a bit vague but I seemed to recall it being a music venue with the added pleasure of decent real ale. A bit "eclectic" if that's the correct term?

Great pub. Not been here before but what a find!!! Live music, real beer - perfect. Not too busy and got a seat for the night. Boyriend enjoyed it too but turns out the landlord is a bit of alright so I "kindly" offered to get the rounds in for most of the night.
We had planned on going for a bit of a pub crawl but ended up here until closing time and then headed into town.
Highly recommend this place for good company, good music, excellent beer and the landlord who is very easy on the eye ;-).

Popped in on Bank Holiday Sunday only a dozen people in but seemed so much brighter & airier than it used to be, two of us had an ale plus one each lager & cider all excellent for 10.30, prompt friendly service, back on "the crawl" now.

Good to see the pub open again! New owner, Mike, has brightened up the place without spoiling it - not easy! Hobgoblin is a regular beer with 3 guest ales from breweries near and far - all in excellent condition.
|
V pleasant pub, only 3 real ales on at time of visit but all in good condition. Nice to see pub open again!
|
Now re-opened got 3 or 4 beers on.
|
This will be reopening in 2011

It was,nt a case of saving it Graham & Irene sold it to semi-retire. But it is re-opening next year in the hands of an ex policeman who is putting real ale back on..And he will be supported if his beer is up to scratch...Watch this space!!!

Always disappointed when viewing pub reviews in Scarborough on BITE to find them dominated by a couple of reviewers who seem to relish their role in helping put every pub out of business through negative comments. Indigo Alley was one of the 4 or 5 best pubs in town so I'd expect to be reading about a CAMRA campaign to save it rather than an apparent celebration of its departure. The Northway-nice little local-doesn't anyone mind it being turned into a mini-supermarket? The Dolphin- potentially a nice little pub with sea views- should we be thanking God that it's gone? Approx 60 pubs in town so the current closure rate of 4 or 5 per year suggests our kids won't be drinking real ale in a real pub environment, just a thought

CLOSED FOR GOOD!!!
|
Now closed and up for sale, to cut a long story short, thriving pub making it's reputation on good beer sold to pub chain for loadsamoney, working from a beer portfolio so start losing customers, managers come and go, then pubco puts it up for sale for 225,000, no takers so drops it further to 165,000 out of desperation.

As adamcroft says, now under new management (again), and they seem reasonably enthusiastic and seemed interested in what we had to say about the old place. Not quite sure he totally took in what we were saying, but the more people that go in and tell him about what the place used to be like, he might just get the message.
Definately an improvement on the previous manager (which wasnt hard i know), and they had hummdinger on, which is one of my favourites! Beer seems well looked after. Give it a go, we shouldnt let this one die.

Soon to become another kebab house.....RIP

Not great. Under new management and trying to improve, but still a long way to go.

drpped by on a recommendation. if you like nicotine-stained, 1980s' heavy rock-themed bars where you can't hear what your friends are saying i recommend it to you in turn. othrewise: avoid.
|
Visited this place on the way to the North Riding Hotel.
I felt a little let down - despite being half an hour before closing there was nobody in and we didnt really see anyone until the barman politely asked if we wanted anymore as it was closing. The decor reminded me of nicotine stains, but i could plainly see the ghost of better days. The beer was reasonable, JB going back for a final pint. I would certainly go back the next time i was in town

Its always sad to report the death of an old friend, but Im afraid that is what Im going to have to do. This once brilliant pub has changed hands since our last visit, I believe its been bought by S & N. Gone are many of the beer pumps and the bar area has been brightened by putting in what appear to be 1000 watt bulbs. Only 3 customers in at 10 p.m. speaks volumes for what has happened here. I asked the manager why they how come they didnt have Roosters on as it was their best seller. He said I havent had it on since I arrived! Thats what I call a stupid decision then. Only 3 cask ales available and a tired selection they were too. 2 Robinsons seasonals and the Holts seasonal. No microbrews at all. Had a pint of Robinsons Trouble & Strife, it was just about OK.
R.I.P. Indigo Alley, youll be sadly missed.

Still the best pub in Scarborough in my humble opinion although the North Riding is making a strong bid these days. Several real ales available, always including one from Roosters. I've never had a bad pint in here and I've had a few over the years. I think the clientele is what they call an eclectic mix. Always a friendly welcome from staff and regulars alike, despite some fearsome looking piercings and tatoos in evidence. The door gets shut early at weekends, but once you're in, you're in and they serve fairly late.
|
Not sure it lives up to it's reputation. OK pint though.
|
This pub was recommended and I could not fault the real ales on offer. The decor was a bit iffy to say the least, but it was a friendly pub.
|
Soon to become a SCOTTISH AND NEWCASTLE house??? But the good times went a long time ago anyway.
|
Great Pub with an excellent, changing selction of ales as well as draft Belgian beeers. Live music is regularly played on sundays and throughout the week and all the Staff are friendly and helpful. So good that i went back four times. Decor is somewhat unusual but don't let that put you off. A rare outlet in the area to stock beers from Rooster/Outlaw breweries
|
Not really my mnusic scene in this pub - but the atmosphere is electric & really friendly !!
Graet selection of real ales if you're into them

Great selection of real ales. Well worth a visit. Looks deceiving from the outside but don't let that put you off.
|
Best pub in town by miles
|
The refreshing thing about Indigo Alley is that there's a healty age range of patrons. Young and old, the whole community's here, and that's always a good sign.
Blow-your-head-off chilli pies available for 2.50.
|
Nice selection of beers in fairly basic surroundings. Don't let the silly name kid you into thinking it's going to be full of pissed teenagers, fortunately not that sort of pub. A welcome haven from the town centre chaos.
|
Smashing pub, good ales, silly name. Well worth a visit.

Popular Real Ale Pub just outside Scarborough Town Centre
