FFC supporter pub. Pretty anonymous and in offensive.

This is the sort of pub that gets a lot of stick, but no real reason for it to do so. Had one guest ale on and the regular Greene King fare, all were fine and very cheap for this part of the world, as was the range of food. Clean and friendly pub, sky sports. Service was slow and lacks charachter, but there are far worse pubs out there. Not bad for a pint or two on the way to Craven Cottage.

Probably the most obnoxious landlady I have ever had the displeasure to meet, whether drunk or sober - thats the landlady I mean! One to avoid.

Refurbished (again), and the 'new' Old Suffolk Punch' is thankfully much better than its previous incarnation as the so-called O.S.P. However, the large single-room layout - with a rather annoying single step up to the bar - is still a bit soul-less with its anonomous modern furniture, high ceilings and musak. Cramped patio area at the back overlooking the Frank Banfield Park. Three Greene King real ales on - Abbot, Back of the Net and IPA (2.95, and in good condition).

As previous contributors have correctly pointed out, this is now the Old Suffolk Punch, and it doesn't look much like the current BITE picture above.

It's a largish rather cavernous Greene King pub on the Fulham Palace Road, not too far from Charing Cross Hospital.

It's heavily modernised inside and food appears to be emphasised, but, on my recent quick Sunday afternoon visit, no one was eating and there were fewer than half a dozen customers present in total.

At the far end of the pub, a plasma TV was showing the South Africa v Scotland 20/20 cricket match with no sound on, despite the fact that virtually everyone in the pub seemed to be watching it. Another TV was showing the omnibus Eastenders edition, also with no sound on ( what's the point of that ?).

As those who have walked down this stretch of the Fulham Palace Road will readily testify, there's a somewhat seedy down at heel feel to the area and I was left wondering whether this pub was correctly pitched for the area.

My pint of GK IPA - 2.80p - was in reasonable condition, but I'm not feeling compelled to rush back here in a hurry

This is a great pub! Over the last year I have been in this pub on four occasions prior to attending the Apollo for various rock concerts. I have to say I feel I have discovered a gem. I didn't know it as the OSP, only the traditional Old Suffolk Punch. What a lovely pub.

It ticks all the boxes - pleasant traditional decor, excellent real ale, good food, excellent staff (the manageress is right on the ball and does a brilliant job), several TV screens which somehow don't interfere with conversation, easy walking distance to the Apollo. What more could you ask for? I'd recommend this place to anybody. Well done Greene King, well done Josie the manager.

No longer the OSP but properly the Old Suffolk Punch again, yes it's Greene King but still quite a good pub. Has the old OSP and previous Old Suffolk Punch layout where the old Golden Gloves's right hand bar is now the kitchen. Karaoke on a Friday night is a regular occurrence.
rainlight - 3 May 2008 01:35
They've done a good job with the refurb. Now looks nothing like the picture above and has been renamed the Old Soffolk Punch. Saw a couple of small boxing pictures on the wall no doubt due to the Mancini familys connections with this place from a few years back when it was the Golden Gloves. Beer standard Greene King fare with the usuals but don't let that put you off! Decent service even though it was Arsenal against Man United and it was bloody busy, all in all definately an improvement on what it was and well worth a look.
Pubbing_Billy - 15 Apr 2008 12:12
Currently closed for refurb. Have heard it will reopen on 16/03.
Pubbing_Billy - 4 Mar 2008 14:04
I tend to go to the OSP on a Friday night for the Karaoke with a group of my friends, and ALWAYS have a great night. One of my favourite things about the place is they don't tolerate 'chav' behaviour, the likes that can be regularly seen in Lloyds or Hop Poles etc. The staff have always been extremely friendly and welcoming. I find it funny how the people who dislike this place, used to be regulars of the Old Suffolk Punch, where personally I couldn't stand it and much prefer it as it is now!

I can only agree with RogerB really. You will not find a more soulless, ersatz, 'youth' orientated bar in London, right down to the huge, awful prints of fashionable young people on the walls. Terrible place, no atmosphere, medicore beer, alright service. Probably better off in the (only slightly better) Duke of Cornwall up the road.
ChapmanBaxter - 12 Sep 2007 16:40
Even by Green King standards, this is a modernized, plastic, fake, pretentious, bland, characterless, soulless, uninspiring and miserable apology of a pub. Another ghastly reminder of what happens when the interior designers are called in to transform a pub into something that is more befitting of the times, that is, throw tradition out of the window, alienate the regulars and try and attract no brainer crowds to watch end to end footie and play pool and darts. The only surprise is that they knock out a couple of Ales albeit IPA and Abbot are not exactly worth getting out the fireworks for. As for Speckled Hen smooth, aaaaarrrrgh! The Old Suffolk Punch (I hate pubs that shorten the name to a set of meaningless initials) has some of the most badly designed seats I have ever come across you will know about it if you find the appropriate chairs. No amount of potted plants can make this place feel or look cosy and I for one wish it would enter a time warp and go back to what most people here remember it as.
RogerB - 7 Aug 2007 16:21
I use the pub occasionaly before Fulham games and the previous comments surprise me. If the landlady is the maori looking lady then shes always struck me as being pretty friendly and pleasant. Apologies if I`m getting people mixed up
TSW - 24 May 2007 18:01
You are not the first to hear those type of things from her, You should tell the Brewery, Greene King, if they get enough complaints they may replace her (we all pray)
anonymous - 23 May 2007 14:25
I overheard the lady manager saying some pretty racist comments the other day, but i don't know if i should reporting these things on this website...
anonymous - 1 May 2007 12:47
To echo the reviews below, it's sad to see what this place has become. Just another bland modernised bar now. Why do breweries keep doing this, I don't know anyone who'd rather a characterless place like this than a proper pub?
E.S.B - 30 Apr 2007 12:30
I agree with all the reviews below this was my local for 30 years till it changed to the OSP, its lost everything we call "community" "locals" are not welcome, we were ditched and replaced with younger people, but as we all know when the office workers have gone home and at weekends whose left "the locals" and if they have gone elsewhere there's not much left but a till not taking much money, better pubs now not a minute's walk away. My best memory of the Old Suffolk Punch was sunday afternoons when we all went there as families and had sunday lunch, kids all played together, where has that all gone now. VERY SAD.
Mrsstrongbow - 2 Mar 2007 14:00
I'm afraid the stripped pine and dodgy decor makes me shudder. Not sure exactly who this bar is suppose to appeal too as its lost its "locals" feel, but still doesn't count as cool by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not sure what this pub could do to improve as its in a bit of a no-man's land on the Fulham Palace. On the positive side the beer was okay last time I visited and I saw Everton thrash Liverpool! Can't comment on the food, I try not to eat in places with laminated menus.
Sparky1 - 9 Oct 2006 17:07
Back in the day this was where the old man and his mates would meet for a pre match drink before subjecting themselves to 90 minutes of frustration at the Cottage. In those days it was the Rifle then the Golden Gloves when the Mancini brothers owned it, that was when I first went in there, it was full of boxing memorabilia and London character now its just another tarted up place that could be anywhere. The staff are friendly enough and the grub isn`t too bad , if thats what you want in a pub. It would be nice for breweries to try and retain some sort of character when they give pubs a makeover and dont just assume that everybody likes faceless poncey conversions
TSW - 27 Apr 2006 20:03
once apon a time this was my local, back when the pub had a real name! now it's more clinical then the hospital accross the road! the staff are great, frendly, and up for a chat with a stranger, but the pub has lost it's appeal, i now know why the old customers have gone on to bigger and better pubs! when will greeneking ever learn that a revamp does not meen bigger profits!
littleboyblue - 24 Apr 2006 20:22
I don't understand why they do this 'no admission after 11pm' thing. They may be entitled to do it but it is utterly against the spirit of liberalised licensing hours (or as the people who are opposed to it call it, '24-hour drinking'). If practically everywhere is open till 12 midnight or later, what is the point of stopping people coming in at 11? It's mean, that's what it is.

This pub used to be the Golden Gloves of Mancini family fame and a lot of live music. Haven't liked it since it changed.
beeronaut - 4 Apr 2006 15:35
Was planning to meet some friends here on Friday night, but was refused entry by (incredibly rude) manager who insisted nobody can be admitted after 11pm! (It was one minute past!!)

Pathetic and discouraging.
CheekyShepherd - 27 Mar 2006 10:38
Friendly staff, but apart from that it is a fairly average pub
rougie - 16 Jan 2006 11:22
Food is shit (processed, heated ready meals which taken an aeon to arrive - one hour for a soup was taking the piss) and the staff are rude.
Sajini - 12 Aug 2005 18:01
What an incredible quiz - I went last night with a bunch of friends and we have resolved to go every week. I've never seen anything that good before. They give a prize away for each round. I'm terrible at sport, so most quizzes are awful, as you can't win the overall prize if you have a weak subject. We won a jug of carlsberg and came second in a few rounds, so we're getting some clever friends to come with us next week so we can get the huge jackpot!
Elizabeth_Tudor - 20 Jul 2005 12:18
Eva is gorgeous and the only real reason I go in there; yet she seems attracted to gormless, zero brain Fulham chavs. *sigh*. The beer is ok, the quiz machine ok and the quiz.... err... difficult!
soonbedead - 10 Apr 2005 00:33
Not much atmosphere , just seems to have people on their way home from work or during work breaks.
Surely the worst pool table I've ever seen , looks like it's been puked on and is unplayable , yet to see someone behind the bar that's not French or Polish.
peterthebeetle - 27 Feb 2005 16:54
Lacks any atmosphere whatsoever...food is rubbish...
far to Edwards/Witherspoons/Lloyds/Corportae-pub-chain-evil-blasphemers-from-the-bowels-of-hell for my liking.
The pub quiz is hard to beat it has to be said...we still have yet to win anything but we will be back

AusseiMatt - 25 Feb 2005 12:29
The quiz is good that's for sure, but have you tryed the karaoke?? Honestly I am not a kind of person looking for that type of entertainment but 2 weeks ago I was there with some mates, and we had a great time. There is a very good atmosphere inside, all people dancing everywhere, really well done...We'll be back!
anonymous - 18 Jan 2005 13:41
Phenmoenal Quiz on Tuesday nights - standing room only, so get their early (well we got there at 8pm for an 8:30pm start and the pub was already packed with quiz goers). Greatprizes, decent food, fun quiz.
David Stetson - 3 Nov 2004 06:54
Nothing wrong with the clientele when we've visited (which happened to be twice in a week, popped in during a crawl quite late on a Thursday evening and then spent a few hours there on a Saturday afternoon before heading off to the Apollo).

Staff friendly, Budvar and Kronenbourg Blanc on tap as well as all the usual suspects (no real ale). Watch out for the slant on the pool table though. Not that I'm complaining, it won me the game we played.

Air con was a definite plus in the hot weather yesterday. Oh, and the freebies in the ladies were appreciated too.
anne - 5 Sep 2004 10:34
Full of chavs and people from the Peabody Estate... Enough said
Hammersmith Max - 20 Aug 2004 06:03
Good atmosphere and a friendly staff, they serve 2 cocktails for 5 (the screaming orgasm is the best),VB and Crown Lager. And joy of joy they now stay open untill 12AM on friday AND saturday. You should give it a try, I think it's worth it!!
Lisa - 17 May 2004 14:13
If your drunk it's OK. Watch your umbrellas though. They go walkabout
anonymous - 4 May 2004 15:54
One of the local pubs where I used to live, and one of the best in my opinion, the manager was happy to put Italy v Scotland 6 Nations match on for me and a mate to watch, and put a premiership match on the TV above the pool table. Budvar on tap is always welcome too.
Jon - 16 Mar 2004 22:00
the area is very good, the music is a great quality, and the service fast.the pool table is very nice, always good to meet some new people.it's always a good fun than to go to the O.S.P. I LOVE IT!!!!!
CHRIS - 29 Jan 2004 15:52
Must be the worst hostelry in the area. You can smell rancid fat when you walk past and you could think it was the adjacent chippy but when you enter this place you realise it's their kitchen! What must their pumps be like? Lilliputian Pool table adds to the whole joke of the place. Staff are non English speaking, definately one to swerve.
Peter - 7 Jan 2004 17:58
Didnt know they did food there. They have a dj on a Friday and Saturday, giving a good atmosphere (although they need to crank it up!!). Would be even better if they kept it open a little later - say midnight or 1am.
pheebs - 9 Jun 2003 12:45
Was great, good atmosphere, freindly people, good sport.

Now absolutely crud, they did it up but kept the Big Screen & the TV screen, but on more than one occasion I've walked out when they won't put the sound on for the sport they're showing (the license for which costs thousands).

Also, the fail to provide entertainment that's advertised if on the night they're not going to cover their costs.

Food is inoffensive.
Jason K - 29 Apr 2003 09:07
Was a decent local, has had a recent attempted trendification. Big screen for sports.
