Had a meal in this pub recently was not impressed slow service and the food was not great. The beer on the other hand the beer was excellent and the locals in the bar where pleasant. Will pay it another visit.

I can only assume that the reviews below were mostly based on a previous management. We've visited this pub twice in the last couple of months. The most recent visit being last night, 16th June 2012.
The restaurant and bar area were very busy. Always a good sign. The restuarant service and food was excellent. We expect a bit of a wait for fresh food and the atmosphere and live music more than made up for that. Best steak pudding I've ever had.
Forget the negative comments. This is the place to go but you'll need to book as others are into the secret ;-)

Has acquired good local reputation for its food especially the Sunday carvery. Our experience has always been of prompt, polite service and a good range of food and beverages. The owners appear to be ploughing their profits gradually back into refurbishing the pub. The current work being done on the garden and the need to refurb the bar toilets is the only reason I've given it an 8 and not a 10.

Haven't popped in here for a while so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Despite coming under new ownership in the last year or two, at this time of year the improvement works don't look to be progressing too quickly but it is a VAST improvement on before. What we have now is a good old fashioned local pub and when I went in the fire was going, the bar was decked out for xmas, and the xmas CD was playing. Lovely. The barmaid was polite and courteous and the Harveys Old Ale (I'm not a big Harveys man by any means) was absolutely delicious; well kept, topped up on request... Superb pint of beer. A lad on the next table ordered food and it looked great, big portions. But until a group turned up, me and the lad were the only people in there and the question has to be asked, why? Is it TOO 'local' feeling? Have I just become accustomed to identikit country pubs? I had a very enjoyable couple of pints in this pub, one which is like pubs should be, but something is missing and I can't put my finger on what it is. I would certainly recommend it but don't expect to be blown away.

Had the misfortune to use the Kings Head for my mother's wake. Very poor quality of food and the toilets in the bar was frankly disgusting. Poor value for money, 9 per head and 1.70 for a cup of tea. Beware!

This Pub catered for my mothers funeral and charged 9 a head for a buffet. The food was awful and extremely overpriced. It is not the best kept pub either. When I phoned to complain about the extortionate pricing I received verbal expletives from the landlord.A great way for someone to behave in the hospitality trade.Steer clear!!!

I enjoyed meals at the Kings Head previously, but it is now much better under the new Management. The various main course puddings were some of the best I have ever tasted and at a reasonsable price. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive and the Lady Chef and kitchen support staff did a great job on the mains and sweets dishes. The range of beers were good too and I enjoyed a nice pint of real ale from a well kept cellar. All in all a memorable Sunday evening out and I will definately be returning - from Essex, so it must be good! Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did.

Called in midweek. Much improved inside and it looks like there is work going on outside to the beer gardden. Friendly, chatty staff and as the Harveys old was still available had a nice pint of 'Mother-in-law'.

Very much improved under the new owner. Harvey's Best and Old were on the handpumps. I had a couple of pints of Best which was went down nicely. The food was good too with main dishes from about 7 or a pensioners lunch, with smaller portions at 5.50 for two courses. It's not far from The Cuckoo Trail, has a large car park and is on the 52 bus route.

Under new management again!
Only popped in once since the change of management but the place has been spruced up, the bar moved and new carpets laid. The restaurant was looking much improved, though we didn't eat on this occasion.
The new owners are obviously putting much effort into refurbishing the place but still have work to do.
The beer and cider was good and we'll try the new menu out soon.

Hi All,
Latest news on the Kings Head, it's recently changed hands, and I can confirm there is now no slobbering dog to join you when dining. The pub is as we speak being transformed to offer the warmest of welcomes, headed up by Mr Keith Walker (the new landlord) and his team. The beer is great, with Harvey's making a glorious comeback. The menu has been updated, enhanced with a mix of traditional and modern quisine on offer at fantastic prices, delivered to you by the new kitchen brigade that are passionate about what they do. Also on offer are 5 Bed and Breakfast rooms, again at very reasonable rates, a pool room, ample "off road" parking, large familiy garden to keep the kids occupied. I think we can safely say that the Kings Head is back on the map.
Thank you for reading......... I am off for a pint.

Not a very welcoming pub at all. The food was ok till their dog which is a mastiff came into the restuarant and drooled on the table.
