Its been renovated. Called in at lunchtime a couple of weeks ago. The smallish garden and terrace out back are being renovated too. Nice friendly pub that is also dog friendly with a pub dog roaming freely too. Food looked OK but .... One of the most expensive pints I've had lately, £3.80 for a local beer. I know other local pubs that are more reasonably priced so probably won't bother coming back.

About 20 years ago I was on my way to the Downs close by and I spotted this pub and decided to have drink. It was absolutely brilliant, the car park, as it is now, was a garden with lunch tables packed with people enjoying their food. Inside, there awas a a fabulous array of food at one end of the pub and the rest of the bar was busy with serving an array of fine ales. Everything looked sparkling and clean and I enjoyed an interesting conversation with one of the locals who was a regular customer. Fast forward to last yhear when I decided to viisit it again and was aghast at the dilapidated state of the place which had only one other customer apart from myself. This is what happens when a pub changes hands from a committed owner or manager to someone who hasn't the faintest idea of how to run a pub.

Went for a meal with my boyfriend, really great service and good food too! It had been refurbished and the outside re-painted so they're clearly trying to get the standards back up! Not that the food has ever been a problem there! Would definitely recommend to families and well as people who just want some good homemade pub grub! Definitely going back!

Visited this pub with a large group. We initially drove past the pub thinking it was closed due to the very tatty exterior! The inside wasn't much better and the pub was generally run down and not the cleanest of establishments. Normally, I would have gone elsewhere, but our party was booked here for luncheon (on the recommendation of one of our party who had been here some time previously when the pub was evidently better). The beer was fairly drinkable, but with a large degree of sediment flaoting in the bottom of the glass. The food was variable: I had the steak and ale pie, which was very good, but my companions' meals were variable in quantity and quality; the salmon was sparse and the cod had burnt batter. The toilets were among the most disgusting I have ever seen in a pub. This is not somewhere I will be returning to in a hurry. I must admit that I am all for preserving pub interiors and general diapprove of 'trendy' pub interiors with laminate floors etc. However, this pub is in desperate need of renovation!

Friendly staff but terrible food and generally shabby. A garlic mushroom starter came with a slice of dry white bread, soggy lettuce, dry cucumber and mushy tomato. The person serving asked if it was ok I said no and explained why and suggested a complimentary dessert. This was, I was told was fed back to the chef and promptly ignored.A main course of overcooked plaice and re-heated veg completed a disappointing meal.Won't be returning.

Seems to have gone downhill in the last few years. Food here used to be great: proper home made mackerel patty & toast plus exceptional Harvey's Best - now just memories. Tatty upholstery & tired decor re-enforce the theme. In need of some TLC - to match it's fantastic location.

This place was always over-rated. The staff are pretty disinterested and seem like they don't like working there. Over-priced food and mediocre beer. Needs a good kick up the bottom or, idelly, a change in management.

Revisited this Pub after 30 years. 12 adults and 7 children sat down to a superb home-cooked lunch. All the food was great, big portions, well-cooked and hot! Service was friendly and efficient (no mean feat with 19 meals to serve at the same time). Pint of Sussex was the final touch.

Just moved to Eastbourne and find this place to be the most friendly by far. Eaten here once (beef madras) and could not complain. Keep it up.

My friend has recently moved to the area and is trying to find a nice local pub to go to. This won't be it! Bar staff weren't very friendly at all, didn't seem to care if we were satisfied or even that bothered about serving us. We asked for 2 steaks 'medium rare' and what we got was 2 steaks like 'shoe leather'... Won't bother returning.

This used to be great pub with good food and good beer, but it's gone downhill over the last 2-3 years or so. The last time I ate here I asked for a risotto - and got served one which had been made earlier and microwaved! It was disgusting, with hard, dried rice around the rim of the bowl. Even a novice chef knows that risotto has to be made fresh...

Dreadful pint of Sussex replaced by an unapologetic landlady who couldn't care less. We then waited 40 mins for a sausage sandwich ... what a disapointing interlude to an otherwise nice visit to Eastbourne.

A bit gruby. Landlady like a bulldog chewing a wasp, but staff frendly and helpful. Food has gone seriously downhill in recent years. Shame. In the right hands it could be a great pub. I wish they'd sell to someone who knows what they're doning sooner rather than later.

super little pub with good beer and good food. has to be said the food is a bit dear though but worth it.

Miserable landlady, irritating barman and dirty tables.Otherwise, food was great, homecooked and tasty and the location was great for a stroll along the seafront
