Its been renovated. Called in at lunchtime a couple of weeks ago. The smallish garden and terrace out back are being renovated too. Nice friendly pub that is also dog friendly with a pub dog roaming freely too. Food looked OK but .... One of the most expensive pints I've had lately, £3.80 for a local beer. I know other local pubs that are more reasonably priced so probably won't bother coming back. persist_artist - 25 Apr 2014 07:11 |
About 20 years ago I was on my way to the Downs close by and I spotted this pub and decided to have drink. It was absolutely brilliant, the car park, as it is now, was a garden with lunch tables packed with people enjoying their food. Inside, there awas a a fabulous array of food at one end of the pub and the rest of the bar was busy with serving an array of fine ales. Everything looked sparkling and clean and I enjoyed an interesting conversation with one of the locals who was a regular customer. Fast forward to last yhear when I decided to viisit it again and was aghast at the dilapidated state of the place which had only one other customer apart from myself. This is what happens when a pub changes hands from a committed owner or manager to someone who hasn't the faintest idea of how to run a pub. Padderborn - 18 May 2011 18:17 |
Went for a meal with my boyfriend, really great service and good food too! It had been refurbished and the outside re-painted so they're clearly trying to get the standards back up! Not that the food has ever been a problem there! Would definitely recommend to families and well as people who just want some good homemade pub grub! Definitely going back! Visited this pub with a large group. We initially drove past the pub thinking it was closed due to the very tatty exterior! The inside wasn't much better and the pub was generally run down and not the cleanest of establishments. Normally, I would have gone elsewhere, but our party was booked here for luncheon (on the recommendation of one of our party who had been here some time previously when the pub was evidently better). The beer was fairly drinkable, but with a large degree of sediment flaoting in the bottom of the glass. The food was variable: I had the steak and ale pie, which was very good, but my companions' meals were variable in quantity and quality; the salmon was sparse and the cod had burnt batter. The toilets were among the most disgusting I have ever seen in a pub. This is not somewhere I will be returning to in a hurry. I must admit that I am all for preserving pub interiors and general diapprove of 'trendy' pub interiors with laminate floors etc. However, this pub is in desperate need of renovation! markcp1981 - 19 Aug 2010 10:58 |
Friendly staff but terrible food and generally shabby. A garlic mushroom starter came with a slice of dry white bread, soggy lettuce, dry cucumber and mushy tomato. The person serving asked if it was ok I said no and explained why and suggested a complimentary dessert. This was, I was told was fed back to the chef and promptly ignored.A main course of overcooked plaice and re-heated veg completed a disappointing meal.Won't be returning. limlam - 26 Jun 2010 00:41 |
