user reviews of the Cob and Pen, Littlehampton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Visited on friday evening with 2 friends, one of which was visiting from up North. Walked in to be greeted by some half heads who had already been served too many drinks and were out to cause grief. Stupid drunken comments to every new person who entered the pub, we raised concerns to the bar staff of the danger of these idiots causing offence and high probability of them starting a fight at some point, ignored and they just continued serving them with more alcohol.

Predictions came true and conflict commenced, luckily broken up as the innocent other party moved on to enjoy a drink elsewhere.

This seemed to be the only place without door supervision hence the reason the half heads probably took refuge.

If this place has got to get their money from drunken idiots then I would recommend steering clear.

Looked like a nice pub with nice decor and good range of beers but will never know as wont be stepping foot back in the doors!

Now the White Hart and well worth a visit.

The Cob and Pen is about to change it's name back to it's original name of The White Hart this week and a Funday has been organised for Sunday 4th September 2011 to celebrate it. This is to help raise funds for the local RNLI and MacMillan Cancer Support with lots for the family including a live broadcast from Spirit FM Radio.

This is a great family pub during the day with a secluded and secure grassed garden for the kids with a play area. The pub is over 200 years old and boasts it's own indoor well. It is beautifully decorated having just been refurbished. The hosts are a nice welcoming couple who have much experience in the industry.
The real ales are exceptionally well looked after, with a good range of bottled and tapped largers and ciders to boot.
Although there is no food at the present there are plans for the kitchen to open in a week or so, doing a variety of meals with a nice selection of home made specials, Cream teas and ice creams are to come too.
The pub is busy and lively in the evening having not just pool and darts but bar billiards too. The locals seem a nice friendly crowd.
The frontage has changed to be more welcoming with plants and seating.
An all round a pleasant place to visit, well worth a try.

What happened? I was here last year and remember it was being worked on. They have a new couple running the place now. Still no food. Pub looks lovely but why fill it with chav type idiots that only seem to be able to speak if they swear loudly across the pub every other word. I did not feel comfortable at and will not be visiting again for the forseeable future. Gone way, way downhill i'm afraid.

new landlord seems very welcoming, typical landlord really overweight and balding. but runs a good pub, alot busier than the last lot! needs to sort out a decent session lager at the right price. but i suspect that like most managed pubs his hands are tied!! aren't they mr jones xx

Has gone to the dogs since the old management left. The manager now appears to be an alcoholic chav, and as such the clientele has taken a nosedive quality-wise. Most nights he's propping up the bar while a glut of unsavoury types wander about with impunity. Shame, as it used to be a nice pub.

Avoid at all costs.

What a lovely pub, with it's warm atmosphere & welcoming staff i felt totally at ease & relaxed.
I went down on a Sunday afternoon to check out the live music & had a wonderful time, as did my partner. - There was a meat raffle afterwards & all the customers seemed to join in and have a laugh. The beer maybe a little more expensive than some other venues in town, but all i have mentioned more than makes up for that. Oh, and the garden, brilliant - huge space & even a play area for the kids. The only fault i can find with it is that it is i need of a spruce up, but listening to some of the locals chatting, this will be happening very soon.

Looks like its in the middle of a refit. Certainly needs it! The landlord & landlady were very welcoming and told me of the plans for live music and food that are happening there. Will pay another visit in the summer. Surprisingly high prices being so close to a Wetherspoons. Arundel Gold was on offer though and was spot on!

A good pub for live music and entertainment. One of the better pubs in Littlehampton.

One of the better pubs in Littlehampton. Service is efficient and friendly and the beer is not bad. I haven't sampled a music night so can't comment.

We vsitied this charming non-gastro pub one Tuesday lunchtime in September 2009. The beer was excellent (Arundel Gold) as was the general ambience of this traditional town pub. The landlord could not have been more pleasant or welcoming. He also told us that it was a music pub with regular performances in the evenings.

well this is no drinks paradise I was in there sunday the 25th march with a friend and good job i did not go alone i would of been the only one there the atmosphere "well there was not one". maybe good for people who like a really really quiet and boring life.

really nice boozer, a great place for a good time. Karaoke on a friday night is ok when its there but does seem to have a few gaps every so often and could do with music inbetween songs rather then a deadly silence from the speakers. great selection of entertainments, separate pool tornaments room as well as pool tables in the pub, slot machienes, tv's darts, etc
