I spent two very enjoyable evenings in the Brown Cow which offers eight different real ales, including Taylor's Landlord (which is all-too-often a mediocre drink these days) in fine condition, along with a genuinely warm reception from both the bar staff and locals. Much good humour - I'll know where to head next time I'm visiting Keighley.

Watch for opening times which seem to be 16.00 including Saturday

A 'proper' pub, where the priority is a good selection of fine beers . Now a Free House, the licensees, Barry and Carol, still serve Taylors finest ales along with a good selection of guest beers, always kept to the highest standard. They run a tight ship (including a No Swearing policy!) so you won't find any of the nonsense that spoils many of the other pubs in Keighley.

One of the best real ale pubs in keighley, beer is excellent and a good choice. Sunday special mild is £2.20. No swearing or you are out. Tight ship run by the Landlord who used to be the Town cryer.
A must visit location.

Excellent pub with a good selection of beers from small independent breweries. Worth making the short walk out of town, but do check opening times.
|
A good solid and well-run Timothy Taylors town pub close to the middle of Keighley. Friendly with a full selection of Taylors ales including dark mild. The pub also contains plenty of Taylors memorabilia. Doesn't open Saturdays until 4pm. One of the very best of Taylor's pubs that I've visited. 9/10 from me.

First visit for a while - nice to see that the Cow is still as cosy, friendly and welcoming as ever. Enjoyed one of the best pints of Landlord I've ever had, too. Just a brilliant pub.

Not a bad pub, just not that great either. dont know why the CAMRA group rave about it so much????? i have tried to go in twice recently, but the place was shut. i suppose they must be making plenty with the prices they charge. the beer range seems a bit stuck in a rut too. all in all, not bad, but not as good as the CAMRA bunch would have you believe. try the Cricketers, much mor lively and a wider range of beers too.

Would loved to have visited this CAMRA Pub of the Season but it was closed when we went at 3 on a Friday afternoon!
|
What a fantastic pub. Visited on a Saturday night and it was in full swing, with the TT beers flowing along with 2 guests, (Phoenix and Abbeydale). The Dark Mild was superb and only 1.86 too!

What a tosser that charlie d is the brown cow is a great pub.
|
If you want atmosphere and conversation, you won't be in here. It's Albert Tatlocks snug on a big scale. Definately for bearded Camra types, not people who want a great pub.
|
I don't know from what 'good authority' Railnut got his (or her) info ... the licencees Barry and Carol definitely aren't leaving.
|
On good authority this pub will be having new mine hosts that are from the Prince of Wales in Leeds. The high standards will therefore be kept, if not improved.
|
After three hours on a train from London, the Brown Cow is the perfect place to unwind. 3 pints of Landlord and I got my Yorkshire accent back.
Narrowly missed (by half a point, apparently) being awarded CAMRA Yorkshire Pub Of The Year 2008. The winner was the Kelham Island Tavern in Sheffield.

Very good indeed. Traditional but welcoming, good Tim Taylors plus guests, and decent pub decor. Combine with a trip to Huddersfield (Grove etc) and spot the difference in style.
|
A most agreeable pub where the landlord clearly puts great emphasis on serving an excellent pint. We went on Sunday so my mate got the 1.65 ale, while I had the Timmy's. Newspapers and books, and I don't recall loud music.
Excellent

Keighley And Craven Pub Of The Year, 2008 - and quite right too.

This continues to be a superb pub. Its got the Cask Marque, as well as the much-harder-to-get Beautiful Beer award. And let me tell you, dear reader, that the beer really is beautiful. As well as the Taylors ales , theres always a couple of unusual guest beers - one of which is priced at 1.60 on a sunday. Wentworth Imperial and the knee-chopping Naylors 7.2% Bradford Lad were there on my last visit, and were about to be joined by a Belgian guest draught that would only be sold in half pints. Theres also Leffe on tap and bottles of Erdinger, among others. This is a serious pub for beer lovers - the only lager is a lonely pump of Carling, which sells about a keg a week.
|
The range of TT beers but didn't have the Ram Tam on 2 days ago, unless I missed it. 1.94 for a pint of Taylor's Dark Mild. Relaxing atmosphere with a reading corner. Guest beers on from Naylors and Phoenix with Scrumpy on draught too. Also a selection of bottled Belgian beers on.

Possibly the jewel in Timmy Taylor's crown, and its all down to the currents licensees. There's an older crowd in this pub, but they still welcome young whippersnappers like myself. The best pub in Keighley despite very healthy competition.
|
Just keeps getting better, this place. The landlord clearly takes a great pride in his ales and his premises. The beer is beautifully kept, the interior of the pub has just had a tasteful re-decoration and the locals and staff are really friendly. The owner is a local history buff and has a 'history box' full of documents about the changes that have happened to the pub over the many years it's been there. All good pubs should be as comfy as your own living room, and this one certainly is.
|
Just seen in the Keighley News that this great pub is now 100% non-smoking. Also, it doesn't seem to open until late afternoon during the week, so check before a long trip.

A super pub with friendly locals on a main road to the south of the town centre, people were chatting and joking with us virtually from the moment we walked in. The landlord was very hospitable, talking enthusiastically about his beers and asking us about the sort of beers we drink down south. He used to be a drayman for Taylor's and although I contravened his strict no swearing policy by mentioning Blackburn (he's a Burnley fan originally from Nelson) he kindly let me off the hook.
Beers were Golden Best, Best, Ram Tam and Landlord (all from the Taylor's range) plus a couple of guests. Ram Tam is probably my least favourite Taylor's beer (it was the first time I've had it) but needless to say the Landlord was fantastic - both the beer and the bloke running the place.

This pub goes from strength to strength. There are now two guest real ales, alongside four Timothy Taylor's beers.
|
New tenants have cleared out "all the idiots" (the Brown Cow did have a bit of a reputation) and it's now a nice, friendly and well kept pub. The mountain-like landlord won't tolerate bad language so you could even take your grandma in for a port and lemon! This is one of Taylor's pubs that escaped the year-zero refurbishment policy so it's a bit like stepping back in time to the late sixties, and none the worse for that. I won't bother rating the beer... it's Taylor's and in Keighley it's never less than superb.
