now called the Tavern but still bloody awful as the last poster said. For it's position in the town it should be a damn site better than it is.
best avoided

Bloody awful, ignorant staff who just chatted and served mates ignoring customers at bar. I can't comment on beer as I went elsewhere. Avoid

Good pub. Used to be my local , many years ago. Run by the Affords. Where are they now?

The food is decent, if not good, the staff are friendly, if its hard to get served it usually means they are busy, its not the easiest job serving behind a bar, you cant remember every face which comes next. Perhaps the problem is people not being polite and pushing in? all in all a decent pub

I have drank in this pub for more years than i care to remember and still like it. I got barred a few times over the years and all the staff know of me. The toilets have always been disgusting - drainage problem i guess and they never seem to get cleaned. The leather sofas need replacing too............

i've been in this pub a few times and every time i go in it takes ages to get served. I wouldn't mind but it seems that the louder you shout the quicker you get served even if other people have been waiting longer. It's also quite expensive and the music is toooooo loud! And whilst I'm having a moan......THEY NEVER CLEAN THE TABLES OR ASHTRAYS.... How annoying?!

Thanks mate! I appreciate that. I actually work at the house, been working there for a few months now, so it's likely that I served you at some point. Your comments will not be forgotten. If you ever come back in, ask for "Andy #2"... that's me :)

Large pub, many previous guises...Empire / Hogshead....Funky decor, very studenty and lively, Friendly staff with a good attitude, excellent food during the day, fair prices. Lively and packed on weekends / evenings. Plenty of talent.
