Here's an update for 2019.
No frills indeed and no Jukebox, Fruit Machines or WiFi. Proper old fashioned pub.
There are men and ladies dart teams and a crib team too. Tuesday afternoon and Saturday night features Karaoke since the lady who used to play the organ passed on.
Still has to be the cheapest pub in Bristol with Draught Bass at £1.50, Whitbread Best £1.60, Guinness & Stella £2.00.
Parking is an issue due to the Residents Parking Zone, but there are yellow lines outside that can be used by disabled drivers part of the day.

A basic, no frills boozer just off the main Old Market strip, we initially thought that it was shut on approaching due to curtains drawn at the windows and virtually no light visible from outside. It consists of a single room bar with the counter at the back. Green seems to be very much the colour theme here and this included various paint shades on the wall as well as the seating and the curtains.
Flooring is a mixture of old wooden boards at the front and some type of lino at the back. There were a couple of original looking fire-places with a tiled front and a dark, carved wood surround, although it did not look as if they were used. A darts board was off to one side with a couple of trophies on the shelf above and there was a small TV stuck up above the door showing some terrestrial television although at quite a low volume. There was a good crowd of punters in there on a recent Thursday evening visit, although most appeared to be of the older generation.
The solitary real ale was Bass, although there was also keg Worthington’s Best, Worthington’s Trophy Bitter and Bass again. The solitary cider was Blackthorn, although we were also offered canned Thatcher’s Gold. £3.40 for one of the cans and a pint seemed very reasonable.

Pleasant enough pub , and very cheap as said before, for the real ale drinker, well only Bass, which i'm not a great fan of , but if it was mandatory this is where i'd come to drink it as twas in very good nick.

Been calling in here over the last 18 months and the Bass, now back to �1.30 a pint, is as good as ever. Whitbread Keg Bitter �1.00.
(Locals refer to the place as "Gods Waiting Room"!)

Bass �1.30 and not a bubble on it. Vodka & Coke �1.00! This is a gem of a Pub, but looks after locals and does not tolerate any numpties; in short, they don't get served. Worth a visit.

Bass from the cellar STILL �1.30. Old girl on the Yamaha organ on my visit. Overheard a local ordering an "arfer n' arfer n' arf".
It might be worth listing some of the other drinks you can still get here, (younger readers may not have heard of some of them) complete with prices (from memory - can't guarantee perfect recall)
Bottle of Light Ale 82p; Mann's Brown Ale 90p; Whitbread Gold Label Barley Wine �1.10 (well, it is 8.5%); Mackeson Milk Stout 82p; Bottle of Guinness 94p; large glass Liebraumilch �1 (red wine? nah love, don't do red wine). Crisps 35p; Teacher's Scotch 90p; Smirnoff Vodka 90p; Cockburn's Port 85p
I thought these were 30-year-old price labels that no-one had bothered to remove; but no.
Am thinking about sneaking these onto the price comparison chart at the Wetherspoon !

Bass is still �1.30 as it was when previous poster visited. If they washed the nicotene off the walls of this place it would fall down. A fine building though when viewed from over the road,except for the 1970s plastic illuminated sign. Irish landlady,and indeed a celtic cross can be seen up at the roof.

Life On Mars!
Incredibly cheap. In our mid thirties we were the youngest by half! Friendly local informed us the landlord was really retired and hadn't changed the prices in nine years! Excellent pint of Bass (�1.30) served (albeit a rtriflke grudgingly to us newcomers!) straight from the cellar. Unused pool room-this is in total a huge pub. A working museum of faded pub nostalgia.
