On a recent visit to jolly old England looking for the highway and directions we stumbled across The Five Bells pub in the village of Chelsfield Kent Wanting to get a traditional good old English pint we decided this was the place for directions. Well it was well worth the stumble !! A quaint old fashioned pub with a welcoming atmosphere and really nice outside area ,garden They referred to it as. One of the highlights of our vacation relaxing and friendly people. We had a pint which was great and ordered some food.I chose horseradish fish cakes yummy moist and flavorful. My hubby went traditional with the fish and chips mushy peas little different mushy peas for me but tasted fine. We loved it so good.... Must say the best part was chatting with the landlord and his lovely wife we had great fun and it was very English. We will if we can be back to the Five Bells next year And also got the directions we needed. It was all a great experience to add to our vacation stories back in the USA.

Nice pints of Otter. Just right for cooling down Thai curry.

Called in for sandwich at lunchtime (absolutely fine). Thought the range of real ales pretty pedestrian (Youngs, Courage plus 2 Cornish). Whilst the beer quality was fine don't see anything that might suggest this was SE London CAMRA pub 2010. What about some local ales (Youngs is hardly local being Bedfordshire)?

Really nice pub. Noticed that it has been a camra award winner. Excellent choice of ales.remarkably similar to those kept by bob baker formerly of rose and crown in nearby halstead. Fairly busy but arrived on a music night which although quite entertaining attracted a very young and noticeably non drinking crowd. Will visit again soon

One of my regular haunts. The Five Bells is very well run by its current landlord and landlady (Ade and Kay). They have just had a beer festival lasting a week with over 20 real ales on offer. I tasted most, if not all of them and there was not a dud among them. The food is also good and all the regular bar staff are very friendly and efficient.

Nice pint of Youngs Special.

Had a very nice lunch at this weatherboarded country pub just a hop, skip and jump (well, in a car anyway) from the suburban sprawl of Orpington. Only problem was that the cellaring doesn't seem too effective as both the Butcombe Bitter and Doom Bar were served above room temperature and were thus not the most palatable. But somewhere I think I would return to.

I liked this pub a lot; good range of ales, nice location plus friendly staff and locals mean I will certainly return.

Traditional pub with obvious regulars enjoying themselves. Food ok but needs to be more fresh. Staff friendly but feel management may let it down, maybe a bad day.

Nice cosy pub. Very food orientated, but staff friendly, and found time for a chat. Will definately go back. A rarity - a pub on the up!

Very traditional pub, typical of the Kent/London border villages, caters for whole community, OK Harveys Best

I've been back to this pub, and echo comments above. Definately on the up - parking not great, but atmosphere is. Nice atmosphere and the beer great.
