The Southover is now a decent real ale and craft beer place on Southover Street. It is one of numerous pubs on this street, which make for a good crawl. The central bar is a horseshoe shape, with seating on both sides. Ales were Sharp's Atlantic & Sea Fury, Gun Project Babylon, Firebird Parody Session IPA & Tiny Rebel Beat Box. Another decent pub on this rewarding street.

Truly excellent pub now renamed the Southover. Excellent, hoppy beers including a superb pint of South Coast and enticing looking Thai food. The atmosphere has that laid back vibe that Brightron does so well.

Good bar staff who know their beer and the beer is very reasonably priced at £3.29 a pint for some of them. Well kept regularly changing selection of local brews always makes this a place to come back to.

Now the Southover and part of the Indigo Pub Company chain, which owns a number of boozers across Brighton.
Prices are marginally cheaper than in some of the other venues – not least the Hare and Hounds – and over the past month or so I’ve started to adopt this as my local in Hanover.
Why? The beer selection is excellent, with 5/6 cask ales vying for attention alongside a couple of Meantime barrelled beers, and a well-stocked fridge offering the likes of the Harbour Brewing Company’s IPA on bottle. The service is also pretty good, and the bar isn't dominated by the kind of crazy-eyed od bods that prop up some of its nearby competitors.

Three very nice and friendly male barstaff, but one very rude female, treats the customers as if she is doing them a favour in taking your money, not very clever at pulling a full pint either, and out of the four, she seems to insist on having the "musak" far too loud. I'll walk on by if I see that she is serving in the future.

Craft beer by numbers. Obviously this is a massive improvement beer wise from your average lager den, but it all feels so contrived. The management are clearly beer enthusiasts and are super enthusiastic but ultimately the choice of beer is dictated from a desk miles away.
Well worth a visit but if this is the "formula" for beer pubs going forward we have lost the war.
Please let this become a proper Freehouse. The staff deserve it.

Now the Souhtover. Totally refurbished.

Had Sunday lunch today. It's better than most and nearly the best in Hanover but that's where the positives end. There are always 2 bar staff on duty for this shift and they only employ the most laid back individuals with low standards and little sense of urgency or customer satisfaction. It's a shame as the food is always as good as the service is poor.

The athmosphere wasn't exactly friendly, but the food looked amazing. All in all, there are far better places in Brighton to eat and drink. (Plus, what a ridiculous name?!)

Ben's leaving folks! - this could be the end for this bozzer.

Good food, good pub, little bit too pncey for it's own good but has balls to back it up so not as bad as it could be.
Roasts are damn fine :)

A fine establishment, and a great second (or second to last) stop on the Hanover crawl. Sadly though has recently succumbed to the really really big screen tv plague, and when there is a cup game (any cup game!) seems like a room full of staring goons.
When it's not got the TV's on it's well worth a visit.

Very friendly Pub. Children in till 7.30 Dogs too. they can probably stay as long as they want. Very mixed crowd, worth a visit.
|
Not worth the walk up but if your at the top of the hill anyway its quite a nice place. Mostly locals judging by the number of kids around when I was last in there but friendly enough and I must say the food looked above average.

this pub is called' the pub with no name'. therefore it has a name.

Top of the range & top of the hill. You'll need a drink after the walk up Southover Street. Food now extended to 9.30 in the evening - even on Sunday. New chef adding lots of new (non mexican) dishes to the present Mexican menu. Southover Street is a pub crawl on it's own. Start here and work your way down via the Charles Napier (real ale/locals) Dover Castle (young crowd/huge menu)and end up at the Greys (excellent food/beer/music)
