I like this pub. Having moved into the hanover area recently I have found this pub to be friendly with great bar staff and they also do great sausage and mash with a choice of 10 different sausages multiple choices of mash and 4 types of gravy. Excellent.

After being recommended The Geese by a friend I thought I would try it on a Wednesday when all meals are two for £10. I didn't realise they only serve sausage and mash on weekdays but wasn't disappointed as there were about 10 different ones to choose from, plus a variety if mash and gravy flavours. It was so tasty we came back for the roast dinner this weekend, also delicious and with extra crackling! Will be regular customers from now on.

I visited after reading a good review in an article about The London Unity, very disappointed, obviously just a foody pub now, if you can call a 6 inch pile of lettuce in a roll, with 6 or 7 chips food, the beer I had was a very strange tasting lager look alike at £3.60 for an O.G. of 3.8, I would think that the quality of the beer came second to the profit on the food. Another pub off my list.

The Guinness was always the highlight in this pub. Freshest in Brighton.

Now under new ownership New owner likes Guinness. Pub is now painted black at the bottom and white at the top (see what he did there). There is a Guinness sign outside, and the pub name is gold writing on a black background (as per the sign) There are 4 Guinness pumps Did I mention Guinness? Very good pub to watch rugby in. Had Tanglefoot and Harveys (both well kept and served) during the recent internationals, and lots of Guinness. Good food too Friendly place Lots of Guinness

First visit for some time last saturday to watch the England v Wales rugby- busy but friendly atmosphere, roaring fire on the go, and one of the best pints of Harveys I've tasted in a while.
Won't leave it as long before the next visit
|
It might be a bit like the Dover Castle, but sells Harveys instead of that stuff from Kent, so deserves and extra point or two.
|
great pub new menu amazing and you get a free drink with all main meals.....fantastic!!!!!!!Best pub in the area.

An OK pub, used to be much better but frankly gone a bit girly of late. Lots of students from the accommodation over the road come here for a couple before town.
Quick history lesson: the reason why it is called The Geese Have Gone Over The Water is because of the pub's Irish roots: the Wild Geese were the Irish army who fought William of Orange in the 17th Century. They were given the option of exile to France or executiion, and they fled 'over the water'.
Needless to say, does very good Guinness.
|
Urban legend has it that it was called 'The Geese', however the sign writer had to admit he couldn't paint geese once he'd done the background, so suggested that thay might have flown over the water?
Anyway, it's a lot like the Dover Castle (if a bit more 'hugger mugger')just up the hill in many many ways, so if you can do without the beer garden of the Castle, and want to save your knees, pop in.

OK pub, worth a visit but not an evening. Far better pubs around but still worth a pint or 2 one day when your not sure where to go.
