I love this pub! Very friendly bar staff, wide choice of well-kept beers. Good, old-fashioned pub decor that is slightly faded and shabby, just how it should be;. No fakery, pretension or sign of big-brewery money-grabbing. Always busy. Has that indefinable something which makes a pub special. Live music now and then, which really draws the crowds. Excellent.

great range of real ale, they had 6 available on my last vist, perfect pint everytime.

He's done wonders in a very short time. The hanging baskets are full of flowers and there's food, I think Thursday to Sunday. It must also be one of the dog friendliest pubs I have ever been to. It seems to be the rule in Colne that you have to walk your dog via the Lord Rodney.

Had a great night in here - four local guests always on tap and some beautiful food make the ALR the place to visit in Colne.
The locals are quite friendly too....

The pub has been taken by Richard Stedman, author of the <i> Football and Real Ale Guides</i>. Visited on his 5th day open. The 4 beers were in top condition and it was very busy.

Bottom of a very steep valley and very isolated. I was alright going down, and expected to have beer boots on to help climb back up, but it was shut! There is a sign saying it opened at 12, but there was absolutely no sign of life by 12.15. Apparently Twaites do not own the pub now, Archers do, and that should be a unique selling point, and the big car park opposite means there is scope for lunch trade, but who the hell is going to visit twice if it's locked and lying?. There may have been a genuine reason for failure to open, but even then there should have been a scrawlled sign pinned to the door.

Excellent range of real ales, food, darts,pool and friendly conversation. Mainly Archers with Gooseye Barmpot always on (and on top form) plus numerous guests. Don't worry about the solid wall, scratch their tummies and they roll over. As for "Sleepy" he now has a less demanding job and holds full scales conversations.

I came across this pub during this years Blues festival and spent most of the weekend there (wasting the �80 I'd paid for the international stage ticket!). Its really nice that you can still find a traditional pub where the beer is great, staff are friendly (easy on the eye)and is not part of a faceless chain - having said that the table on the roof is a little odd. I will definitely be visiting this smashing little pub again and would recommend it to anyone passing through the area.

A decent little pub somewhat marred by the solid wall of men who appear to be glued to the bar (including one who's quite often asleep).Still a decent pub though.
