"very strong links to the nearby Naval air station"
Well one of 'em has disappeared. There was a photograph of a restored aircraft, which belonged to me, and was on loan to the pub, which disappeared with the previous licensee. (Thieving git!) New people seem fine. I shall call again.

Been in the Podymore quite alot now that it is under new management. Eaten various times, lunch, evening meals and Sunday dinners - all exceptional food, real English grub!!! Staff are friendly and polite, pub is always clean, very cheerful and warming place to be!!! 100 times better run now that Fee, Bill and Justin are running it.

Looking for a place to meet and have Sunday lunch I popped in to this pub Saturday afternoon with some trepidation having read the earlier postings. It was clear however that it was under new management (of only 2 weeks). Made to feel welcome & valued, lunch booking taken efficiently. Came back Sunday & had excellent lunch with plenty of good quality veg. Butcombe & Pedigree on handpump & both in fine condition. Atmosphere welcoming , dcor good, loos clean. Well worth a call in.

"Very strong links to the nearby Naval air station" is pretentious-speak for "often frequented by pissed Naval ratings looking for a fight".

I called in there a few days ago. Not busy (but then, it never was) and the landlord has it on the market (which is probably just as well, as he's on Bacardi an coke at lunchtime!)Lovely sandwich though, and very good value. Beer in fine fettle too.

Cherry Cable must be the owner I reckon. Or an American. Beautiful is taking it a bit far and the beer is not beautiful either. Not one for a second visit.

This is a beautiful, traditional pub, situated just off the A303 after the Ilchester / RNAS Yeovilton turn off southbound. We found it a perfect pub to stop in when travelling down to the west country. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly and although it is obviously also a 'locals' pub, the welcome was very hearty and inclusive. The food was amazing, clearly home cooked and very generous portions. As a history buff myself, I found this pub amazing as it dates back to the 16th century and has very strong links to the nearby Naval air station, it was very interesting chatting to the landlord and landlady as they were very knowledgeable about this. Highly recommended!
