About as welcoming as an xl pitbull with rabies - the staff think they can tell you where to sit , how to behave - they can … and watch customers disappear from this clique toilet- don’t just avoid it … tell your friends… dreadful anachronism, like some 1970’s outpost

Visited again yesterday afternoon and my experience was pleasant. The pub is clean and tidy and was pretty lively for a Saturday lunchtime.

This place is still sport orientated and has tv's adorning every wall so there was no issue getting a good seat for the (mind numbingly dull) Spurs V Liverpool game. I know that there is a load of boring old farts who hate pubs with tv's however, as a sports fan this works just fine for me.

The pub had 3 ales on which included Deuchers, another well known one which has slipped my mind and the pubs own beer, the black bull ale at 4.1%

I didn't eat but the food I saw coming out looked like good honest pub grub served in generous portions. The choice is fairly basic but the pub isn't trying to do too much which is to its credit. Your not going to get lightly poached quails eggs with a kale jus but then again this is the black bull in South Ruislip, not the fat duck in Bray.

All in all this is still a pub that pulls in a down to earth crowd and provided me with a pleasant enough experience. I am happy to add that this place has improved infinitely from the filthy dive it was a few years ago before the new owners came in :)

Looks nice on the outside. The pub has new signage and the exterior is adorned with flowers and hanging baskets. Looks like this place has turned itself around after an extensive refurb. The pub in its previous incarnation had a sense of foreboding and doom about it and contained the what could be described as the dregs of society and a drain on the social fund!

I really hope the clientele has improved as this looks like it could have really good potential. It has everything that in my humble opinion one would want from a pub. I am due to try it again this weekend so will review again in due course!!!

Good to see this large 1930's pub reopen after 2+ years of closure and a multi-week very expensive refurb. New outside garden area. All new interior, carpets and décor. Even the car park has been resurfaced. 4 hand pumps although just 2 were on the go when I visited mid week. Deuchers IPA was in good form. Good to see quite a few customers. Food served. 114 bus stops right outside.

The Pub has closed. Rumour has it that it will be turned into an Indian restaurant. Dont see that working somehow

At the time of writing this was rated as 4.9 out of 10 - there are a lot of people who have incredibly low standards.
This pub was filthly and the atmosphere was intimidating.
Avoid!

the best pub ive ever been in for footy. big screens everywhere. quality banter, not too clicky. one night i will never forget. midweek, 4 games on at once euro and prem. chelsea won theirs. man u v spurs last couple of mins spurs score, ball a yard over the line roy carrol scrabbles the ball out. goal disallowed the place went completly mental.

Probably the best venue for watching England games.

More screens than even Elvis had and you get served pretty fast even when the pub is rammed.

Agree with tottenhammassive about the quiz. Great atmosphere.

I agree with the last comment, the atmosphere can be a little heady at times especially when the Arsenal fans expound their views on the rights of the proletariat to live in an autonomously evolving collective with their own legislative and democratically elected representatives to serve the needs of the community. The CFC lads tend to counter with their alternative beliefs on the urban ghetto as a microcosm of the malaise of the establishment and the need to tackle local community issues through effective proportional representation. However this usually develops into a Drogba v Henry whose better argument? And everyone is happy, as they chug down anuvver excellent beer, except the Spurs fans who sadly reflect on 16 years of dust on the trophy cabinet. Great pub.

An okay pub but beware that at times the conversation can be a little highbrow. If Plato and Pythagoras are your thing then I am sure you will find this pub to be to your liking

The last comment on this pub is very suprising to say that it was full of 'pikeys' will really upset the teachers, IT consultants, barbers,PAs etc who regularly us this pub, as the date comment posted was a Monday night - which is quiz night, and if this person was spoiling the quiz night I am not suprised they were greeted with a rude comment

New teams of 4 always welcome for quiz night every monday at 8.30
