Classic multi-roomed pub with a friendly welcome.Something of an oasis in what appears to be a pub-free area! Holts IPA was good.

Called in last of week and was not disappointed. Well worth the trek.

In a somewhat intimidating industrial area and difficult to find, but worth the effort. A throwback to an earlier age of how pubs used to be. A Holt's tied house and on my visit the Bitter had run out leaving only the IPA available at an outrageous (for Holt's) price of £2.90!

Went in on a Saturday lunchtime whilst visiting the area. Proper old backstreet pub,had a nice pint of Joseph Holt IPA & a pint of Two Hoots which was equally as good. Was fairly quiet when we went in with a few locals chatting at the bar but was good for a chat & catch up with my mate who I hadn't seen for a while over a decent pint pulled by a friendly barmaid & locals were happy to point us in the direction of other pubs nearby. Good to see this type of place still open & from what I hear thriving, its certainly worth a visit in my opinion.

Hidden little backstreet boozer sandwiched between factory units in an area being developed for housing. A three roomed pub, open fires, some tasteful renovation evident, comfortable. Quiet on a Friday afternoon, the three hand pumps were Holts IPA & Bitter, and Wells Bombardier. I'm not a fan of mass market breweries, but we thought the two Holts were in good condition regardless. It was a shame the only alternative on was a relatively dull choice.
The barmaid took care to check the Bombardier before serving, which was a nice touch. A recent newspaper article says former Coronation Street star Rupert Hill (‘Jamie Baldwin’) has recently taken the place over. It certainly looks lovely from the outside, and the recent internal renovations (upholstering, tasteful pictures) add to the place. Toilets were clean too. We like the feel of the place, but would need to see the real ale choice improved to visit often. It’s not in a situation where anyone will stumble across it by accident, but equally it's only 5 mins walk from the other notable Salford boozers around Chapel Street. A good addition to a Salford pub crawl which just needs whatever real ale beer choice improvement can be negotiated for a tied pub.

Gem of a pub, if you like the traditional boozer then this place is a must visit. Dont let the location put you off, its only a relatively short walk from the edge of Manchester. We was met with friendly banter from fellow customers and the barman. Had MapleMoon and a seasonal festive ale on pump. My first visit on the 8th Dec, and wont be my last!

Popped in yesterday (5th May) and enjoyed a few pints of Holts. The place has been taken over by the people at the Castle Hotel on Oldham Street and seems destined to serve beer for many a year more which is great news. Holts Bitter and IPA plus 3 other beers of which names I can't recall. The TVs gone and the old snug looked like it'd had a coat of paint. There were plenty of people in which gave the Lamp Oil Shop a friendly atmosphere. Well worth the stroll.

I'm amazed this pub still exists, but glad it does. It's surrounded by an industrial wasteland and in a very unwelcoming area. Whilst most of the pubs along the nearby Chapel Street (A6) are boarded up, this one is still open despite its obscure location. Business was quiet on my Sunday evening visit. Requiring a soft drink to sober up, I was quite surprised by the 1.90 price tag for something poured out of a 2 litre bottle. But in fairness, the barmaid did warn me! The interior is a very traditional city centre style. A central corridor has one bar to the left as you enter and two bars to the right. Football was showing on TVs in at least 2 of the bars. Worth visiting before it goes the way of many of the others nearby.

Very traditional back street boozer in an area of old warehouses that is slowly being invaded by the yuppie hordes. It retains its original layout and must be unchanged in years, with a lounge, bar room and darts room all accessible from the central corridor. it's dark but not unwelcoming- just what a pub should be, really. Small TV shows a variety of things. Old Lowry prints and Sunlight Soap adverts adorn the walls and give character. Service and locals very friendly. As noted, I just hope it can survive as it is a classic. Holt Bitter and Mild available, never my favourites but well kept in here, and very cheap. About 10-15 minutes from Manchester Victoria station, I urge you to visit , this kind of place ought to be preserved.

This pub sits on the edge of a dual carriageway, surrounded by warehouses and derelict buildings. The interior consists of a main bar with two rooms off to it's right. One room has a dartboard in it, the other a huge widescreen TV that dominated the room and paraphernalia that suggested they hold discos here though given the size of the place that seems ambitious. The pub is in desperate need of some care and attention. The furniture was tatty and the carpet needs to be replaced. There were also a load of flies buzzing around the room we sat in. Holt's Bitter and Mild on the pumps. I had a pint of the bitter which was well kept (and cheap - a bitter and a lager cost less than four quid). This could be a nice little pub but, given it's surroundings and present condition, I can't help wondering how much longer it will survive.

Called in last month for a few scoops. Still a great place and very friendly people. Ended up chatting with Jeff and Clive who used to booze with an Uncle of mine namely the imfamous Red Ted...........

Splendidly traditional Holts pub just outside the Manchester City Centre boundary in Salford in an area that is rapidly being regenerated. Not the easiest pub in the world to find, but do persevere, you won't be disappointed
Note the sign in the window in the left hand bar - " nutters corner - no vacancies". I only saw this on leaving and inadvertently sat in that corner, but in a good humoured friendly local like this, no one minded. ( perhaps they saw me as one !)
A good honest workaday boozer - lets hope it's still around next time I'm in the area.
Needless to say, the Holts was in fine form

Still great, still hard to find, still full of crazy wonderful Salford folk, that brings a tear to a Salford exiles eye. God knows what will happen hear after the smoking ban!

I thought pubs like this did n't exist anymore. A truly authentic working class friendly pub. Check out the old photos in the vault and the fire place in the snug. Great beer too.

A proper back street boozer and serving Manchesters Finest: HOLTS A Salford Gem known locally as the Lamp Oil Shop. Was reputedly know as one of the last pubs in Salford to obtain its Liqour Licence.
